Cornwall’s world famous Eden Project visitied Northfleet on the 25th January as part of their community outreach programme, Big Lunch Extras. Born from their hugely successful “Big Lunch “ initiative - which aims to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours annually on the first Sunday in June in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.

Big Lunch Extras is all about inviting people to do something more within their community – and together to start tackling the issues that matter most to them. The project helps develop people’s skills, builds their confidence and helps spark new ideas that could make a difference, through a series of workshops and inspirational events, free web resources and a vibrant online Community chat area. The Extras events also provide a marvellous opportunity for like minded groups and individuals to meet and share their ideas and inspirations.

The Northfleet event, which was held at St Botolph’s Church Hall, Wallis Park Community Center and Northfleet Veteran’s Club, was attended by community champions and organisations from throughout the South East. Hosted by the inspirational Richard Good, there was advice on funding and fundraising, motivational sessions - including Music For Change’s Lucky Moyo - and presentations from a wide variety of organisations including CVSNWK’s own Marilyn Keating, Confidence Queen Genny Jones, and Peter and Gary of No Walls Gardens CIC of Northfleet.

In addition to the travelling roadshow events which are held all across the country, as part of the programme the Eden Project holds residential weekends in Cornwall. These Big Lunch Extras weekends draw community volunteers from across the UK and it is a great opportunity to get new ideas, inspiration and information on a wide range of topics relevant to all communities. The next event still has a few places available and starts on Friday 28th Feb and ends on Monday 3rd March, and is fully funded by the National Lottery.
