at Yosemite Falls Café

on Blackstone at Shaw

Fresno, CA

7:00 P.M.

Guests Welcome!

Jeremiah Celebrates His 20th Birthday! By Lois Patten I don't know if Jeremiah would have preferred to pull his cart in 104 degree weather or climb to 11,000 feet to view California Goodale Pass. I know he doesn't look or act 20 years old. Once at a creek he and I were discussing his desire to stop and eat grass, when he felt my small English button spurs in his side, he proceeded to bow his back like the St Louis arch. To that he added hopping up and down in place. I proudly survived this and promptly gave him an attitude adjustment. Although I think he did enjoy the view at the pass. Approximately six years ago we rode over this pass and camped with friends at Grassy Lake on the east side of the Sierras. Although Jeremiah did not make this trip, we had previously used him as a pack mule. This was before Tamara Ketscher had lost husband Dave. When we had the privilege of buying Jeremiah I began to ride him on our summer trips to the the Sierras. In 2012, Jeremiah and I rode across Washington State with the John Wayne trail riders on their 200 mile annual trip. This ride follows the abandoned Milwaukee railroad. This historic railway used to run from Chicago to Seattle. Jeremiah and I rode the WHOLE way!, which earned us a White Scarf Award which is shown in the above picture. Soon Jeremiah will be seen pulling the new cart that Brent made just for him.

Twin Rivers Continuous Drive By Lois Patten Thank you Linda Fairbanks and Brass Oaks for hosting such a nice event at Twin Rivers in San Miguel in May! It was our second year with our pair. Even though there were no other pairs, we improved much from last year. Thanks to my husband, Brent, an excellent groom, the pair and our turnout came together nicely. I'm sporting my new decorated helmet in the picture. I encourage all who are interested to attend next year.

What’s Happening? W&KRP Horse Show Driving Classes:

The W&KRP Driving Classes at Verde View

Farm in Sanger has been canceled. Phyllis

Rumley will no longer be organizing these classes.

She is hoping that another CVHA member will pick

up the reins and keep this show going. As it has

been a great local opportunity for drivers to

practice or get their competitive feet wet or just to

have a fun time, the CVHA Board is also hoping

that someone will step up and take over the

organizing these events. And a great big THANK

YOU to Phyllis for doing such a great job!

CVHA August Meeting:

Wednesday, August 6th at Yosemite Falls Café on

Harness Driving Demonstration at the California Draft Horse & Equipment Sale

Tulare, CA October 31, 2014 at 5:00 PM

Presented by the Central California Harness Association

Come learn about the competitive and recreational opportunities

offered by the member clubs of the American Driving Society.

Competitive Harness Driving generally has three categories of

competition:

Combined Driving Events o Sometimes likened to a team triathlon, a Combined Driving

Event consists of three competitions – Dressage, Marathon,

and Obstacle/Cones -- that are held over one, two, or three

days. The sport is intended to showcase the versatility, training

and talents of both horse and driver. Classes and Divisions are

based on experience, size, and the number of animals hitched.

Pleasure Driving Events o Pleasure Driving is show ring competition. Horses and/or

ponies are hitched to antique vehicles or replicas. Classes or

divisions are based on the animal (pony, mule, draft, VSE), the

driver, and/or the experience of horse or driver and the number

of animals hitched.

Recreational Driving Events o Sometimes referred to as “Club” Driving event where the

organizer of a Driving club puts on an event made up of fun

activities that can be as simple as a “Picnic Drive,” or as

complex as a “scurry.” All turnouts are welcome and

encouraged.

Members of the Central Valley Harness

Association will demonstrate three

elements that are most common to the

various categories of competition; Driven

Dressage, Marathon Hazards, and

Obstacle/Cones.

The informational showing will feature

VSEs, Ponies, Horses, Mules, and Drafts.

Please come and learn!
