I am looking for a position as an Architectural Assistant and/or Architectural technologist where I can lend my skills in detailing and creative designing as well as further my
professional experience. EDUCATION
Third Level: Dublin Institute of Technology, Bolton St. Dublin 1 Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology 2006-2009
Graduated with Distinction
University of Dundee Masters of Architecture Degree 2009-
I have just completed 1st year and intend to complete all five years
Skills: Highly competent in AutoCAD, 3D Sketchup, Revit and Photoshop along with Microsoft Office Word, Spreadsheet and PowerPoint.
I have experience in preparing planning drawings, working drawings, fire certificate’s &
detail drawings, as well as schedules and specification writing. In particular writing specifications with NBS software. I also have experience in conservation work, structures and mechanical & electrical
schemes including sustainable design strategies. I am proficient in hand sketching in detailing & designing stages. I am also very good at
model making.
Projects: I have experience through my studies in a range of projects. Although they are theoretical they are approached in a highly practical manner and are reinforced with in
depth site visits for as professional an experience as possible.
In the field of Architectural Technology my studies began with domestic buildings and basic detailing in traditional methods along with prefabrication. The domestic project involved full site investigation, basic tender & detail drawings.
Further projects concentrated on materials in larger scale projects. This involved designing a medium scale apartment block, car showroom and community centre using and
analysing the materials concrete, Steel and timber respectively. Comprehensive fire certificate drawings were also prepared for the apartment block.
My dissertation project involved taking a fourth year architect’s concept at a very basic design stage and bringing it up to working drawings standards. The particular project was
a large scale theatre. The project involved an intense and in-depth analysis into all areas of the building including, site analysis, building program, structures, mech & elec, building fabric & acoustic design. Along with detailing a key section of the building and preparing
planning drawings, fire drawings, schedules and a specification document.
As a result of this I consider myself to be highly efficient in drafting both freehand & computer aided as well as a competent detailer.
In field of architecture in the past year I have greatly improved my design skills which I believe has improved my detailing skills. The two projects I have undertaken in the past
year have been small scale. A domestic design for a family of three and an artist’s habitat for six people. Throughout the year I have developed my hand drawing and model making
skills. WORK EXPERIENCE
WEXFORD COUNTY COUNCIL I worked in the county council Housing drawing office in the summer of 2007. This experience was incredibly helpful as I got to see firsthand the preparation and process
involved in the tender stage of a building. My duties involved preparing various tender documents and drawings. I also visited some sites during my time there. I consider myself
to have a good knowledge on the preparation of planning and tender documents as a result of my time there.
While still attending school I also had a short placement in a design office as well as some summer experience labouring on building sites.
HOBBIES
I am a very active person and enjoy participating in and watching most sports. I like to sketch and draw as a pastime.
I love to play music and play a small range of instruments in my free time. I have a strong interest in the environment and I enjoy sustainable living on a domestic basis such as growing vegetables etc. I am also very committed to sustainable design and
take pride in trying to design buildings which are as energy efficient as possible.
