Date: 13 Feb, 2015 Summary of Background
A Social Development Professional, having more than twelve years of working experience in the field of Social Development. Serve in various projects of Social Development, Public Health and Research. Have firm believe in core human values of respect, integrity, justice, peace and love. I am striving for the contribution of my role through networking and strong relationship with all stakeholders for the betterment of human lives and for the sustainable development.
I have vast experience of program implementation directly and along with implementation through partners. In my previous capacity in Packard Foundation I gain experience working with partners on country level with different reproductive health interventions while in my recent work I am engaged in direct implantation of Program activities. I have good rapport with civil society organizations in Pakistan as well as good liaison with Govt authorities. A very recent achievement in this respect of my skill is child marriage bill which has been passed in Sindh Assembly is a result of strong networking with partners and Govt authorities and Legislators.
I have received PhD degree in 2013; my topic was Sociological Study of Adolescents Girls of Karachi, in which I have tried to explore young girls issues related to their socio-economic and health. The research contributes information about the neglected population and suggests number of recommendations for the Policy makers and implementers to improve condition of this important segment of population. Relevant to this for the adolescent issues I have designed a huge Campaign for the Early Child Marriage Issue, in the project of HANDS in partnership with Rutgers WPF. To engage Policy makers to control the issue of Early Child Marriages we successfully convinced legislators to table the bill in Assembly which has been passed in Sindh Assembly last year. (details could be seen on the documentary on HANDS website videos)
I started my career in 2002 after completing my masters in Sociology in 2001 in Social development sector. I have good experience of working in civil society organization and with developmental donor agencies, on multiple levels in different field. I have served in several community development, research and health projects and programs and made efforts for upliftment of marginalized communities.
Working for social development for my own country I have understand the dynamics of the socioeconomic and political situation in Pakistan and issues around it which create unjust and disturb situation for people. Patriarchal and feudal mindsets narrowing the space for women emancipation while in-consistent policies and poor governance of Pakistan unable to provide basic rights to the citizens.
Currently I am working in an NGO name HANDS and I am leading here the department of Information Communication and Advocacy as General Manager. My department team consists of seven members, and I supervise all the activities of Advocacy related to human development including health, education, gender and livelihood issues, in this regards I have to work with legislators, media and other stakeholders. HANDS is working for Integrated development model hence with support of other program heads I get chance to work for health, education, livelihood support, gender and Infrastructure development projects. Since my program is cross cutting program in the organization therefore all projects communication and advocacy comes under my domain. My department is playing main role in supporting all projects and programs of HANDS for developing behavior Change Communication Strategy.
Details of my expertise in Program/ projects implementation are mentioned in my curriculum vitae enclosed here.
