MIRKO GUERRINI Saxophone, ethnic flutes, keyboards, composer, arranger MIRKO GUERRINI was born in Florence in 1973. Has studied piano, saxophone, classical composition and jazz music at the Conservatorium “Luigi Cherubini” in Florence. He graduated in classical saxophone in 1992 and in Jazz in 2010 with 110/110 cum laude. Recipient of the Flack Fellowship at the Banff Centre for Performing Arts in Canada, he is now Permanent Resident in Australia with a Distinguished Talent Visa that he was granted for his exceptional curriculum and his International recognition as a Jazz musician, performer and composer. Eclectic and multi-instrumentalist, producer, multi-awarded composer and orchestra conductor, he has 14 Cds to his credit as a solo sax player and leader of jazz ensembles, more than 50 CDs as a sideman. He is the leader of the “Triodegradable” and the co-leader of the Grabowsky-Guerrini-Schauble Trio (Torrio!). Guerrini has released 6 books: 2 with a selection of his compositions by the well known label Carisch Ed, and 3 educational books dedicated to the Jazz Tenor Saxophone: Stan Getz, Joe Henderson and Oliver Nelson. Plus an essay in English based on the paper presented at the Warwick University's Conference "Music and Philosophy". He was part of the “blockbuster” project “Carioca” with Stefano Bollani and all Brazilian musicians (cd and dvd released with more than 100.000 copies sold), and has toured 3 times in Italy with more than 50 concerts. In two of them the great Caetano Veloso has joined the band. Guerrini hosted the radio show “Dottor Djembè” together with David Riondino and Stefano Bollani. The radio program ran for six seasons, becoming a tv show in June 2010 for Rai3. For Dottor Djembè he composed and arranged all the music. The show was awarded as the “best Radio show” in 2009 and 2010. He has very high quality and varied collaborations: with Billy Cobham, Brian Auger, Mark Feldman, Dave Douglas, Stefano Bollani, Enrico Rava, Stefano Battaglia, Paul McCandless, Caetano Veloso, Hermeto Pascoal a.o., as far as jazz is concerned, with notable singers-songwriters such as Laura Pausini, Ivano Fossati and Giorgio Gaber and with a number of other outstanding artists in Italy and abroad. He is also in great demand as a composer/conductor with different Symphony Orchestras (Orchestra “A.Toscanini” of Parma, Orchestra Regionale Toscana, Orchestra della Campania and others), being the winner of International Music Competitions such as the “Concorso 2 Agosto di Bologna” (2000, 2005). He has performed all over the world: in Brasil, Japan, Australia, Canada, Usa, France, Spain, Russia, Finland, Indonesia and in many other countries. In Australia he has already worked with some outstanding musicians such as Paul Grabowsky, Tony Gould, Danny Fischer, Marc Hannaford, Scott Tinkler, Australian Art Orchestra, Normie Rowe a.o.; Guerrini has also recorded 8 CDs since his arrival in Melbourne.

He has composed original music for the recent Melbourne Museum's exhibition on the Aztecs, scoring music for an animation movie (titled “Aztec City”) and both the Radio and Tv ads. As an educator, Guerrini has taught at the “Giuseppe Verdi” music school of Prato for 7 years, and after being a professor of Jazz Saxophone at the Conservatorio “Mascagni” in Livorno he is now Adjunct Fellow and Teaching Associate at Monash University, Melbourne. At Monash University he teaches Saxophone, and has taught Composition, Ear Training, Small Ensemble and Jazz Theory. Has been invited as visiting professor at Monash University of Melbourne (2005, 2009, 2011 and 2012) and at UTAS in Hobart in Australia as well as at the Banff Centre for Performing Arts in Canada (2010, 2012), and has been the Keynote speaker at a Conference on “Musical Perspectives” at the Warwick University, in Warwick, UK in 2012. Guerrini has been teaching Woodwinds and Intermediate band at Kew High School since January 2016 and Woodwinds at Brighton Grammar School since Term 4 2016. DISCOGRAPHY :
