Your O íd Habits, Customs and Ways of
Thinking that L imit You!
T HAS oftentimes been a sub¡ect of controversy whether man ¡s a maker
of hís destiny or a slave to it. There are, however, simple facts which
prove man is the Master of destiny and not enslaved by it. For example:
If Divinity had decreed a destiny for each of us consisting of certain
events that we could not evade, then why were we given a sepárete
mind, the ability to reason, to plan and create? Furthermore, somesucceed where others fail in the face of the same severe obstacles. This
reveáis that destiny, yours and mine, is in our own making. The secret, however,
is in shaping the right sort of personal destiny. There is a reason why the destinies
of some people are depressing, miserable and hopeless. Let me explain— There
are environments in life. One of these environments nature has given you— it is
physical. It is formed by the elements, as for instance, the coid Arctic, torrid
Tropics, mild Temperate Zone, and it has left its stamp on the human race. Then,
there is the other environment which is man-made— that is society, civilization,
with its habits, customs, standards of thinking and doing. This environment is
mostly based on false reasoning. It taught us to believe only what we could
sense, see, hear, feel or smell. Y et these same senses deceive us and give us awrong view of life and of ourselves. Superstition and prejudices instituted by sel-
fish men have prohibited us from learning the REAL TRUTHS OF LIFE, and of ourown being.
Let the Rosicrucian teachings reveal how you may cut through this mesh of
false knowledge that holds you back. We will disclose here what knowledge has
been withheld from you.

The Test of True Knowledge
and Happiness
W
HAT is TRUE K NOWLEDG E? The schools, colleges and universities teach
knowledge as do religious sects, yet ¡t cannot be called TRUE KNOWLEDGE. The knowledge that they teach is brought to your consciousness by your
senses of sight and hearing. It is indefinite and non-lasting,
for each man perceives if differently and it is altered as timegoes by.
If two beings, you and I, have had imparted to us sc-called
knowledge by science and your personal opinion may reason-
ably oppose it although mine accepts it, then that knowledge
cannot be true. W'hy? Because you must agree that that which is
true knowledge must be permanent, definite. If it can be realized
differently by many persons, it is not a definite thing, but something that changes
with the thinking of the individual. It is merely illusionary. How much of that
which was taught by science and religión of five hundred years ago is believed
today? How much of it of one hundred years ago is accepted as true today?
Yet, From time immemorial has man known of certain knowledge which today is
still unchanged, and known to all men alike, for it is the true knowledge. It is the
knowledge that is borne in the inner consciousness of man. The ¡deas of beauty,
of right and wrong, of sameness and difference, the ability to realize that we are,
and that some other greater power than us exists— this knowledge is the inner
wisdorn which man possesses. Those who make use of this are able to master and
control their lives, for they have a permanent, powerful forcé to use. The Rosicru
cians *-each how to release and use this knowledge— your real Divine inheritance. If we but analyze happiness for a moment, we see that it is but pleasure.
Happiness is either physical pleasure, the gratification of the senses, or a mental
pleasure, a pleasure to the mind. How temporary and undesirable is the first.
It is merely the elimination of pain or discomfiture. These pleasures that come
from the satisfaction of bodily appetites are like the sensation that comes from
scratching an itch, a substitution of one sensation for another. Peace of mind,
personal confidence which comes from mental power and real knowledge is a
happiness of a positive nature. It is lasting, as it is not sought merely to displace
pain, butfor its own virtue. Let the Rosicrucians point out how you may discover
this true happiness in life.
Follow These Instructions— TEST YOURSELF—
U rder the heading of "Self Questionnaire" on the last page are several questions.
A fter each is a letter like "A ," for example. A t the bottom o f the page is a foot-
note which expiains that the letter indicates whether the question is scientific, mystical, or otherwise. Try to answer these questions carefully.
Under the heading "P resentation of Facts" you will find all
the answers complete, except that they are notin the same
order as the questions. The questions that you are able to
lócate the answers for more readily than the others, reveal the
l-endencies of your mind. In other words, if you are able to find
the answers to "B" questions more easily, you are philosophi-
cally inclined. Furthermore, these questions and answers disclose
some of the vital knowledge you will receive as a Rosicrucianmember.

Presentation of Facts
Negative happiness or pleasure is an after-effect, the replacement of pain. Positivehappiness ¡s that which is sought for its own nature, not to displace anything else. H ap
piness derived from the satisfaction of the appetites, passions, and desires, is negative.
Happiness derived from knowledge, peace, and pers©nal mastership is lasting and
positive.Habit is due to the frequent and same decisión of the reason enforced continually
by the will. A continuous repetition of the same act becomes a suggestion to the sub-
jective mind which transforms it into a fixed law. Habit can be overcome only by
making a counter-suggestion to the subjective mind.
O f all the physica! senses, sight is the most sensitive to external vibrations. Sight
detects light which is the highest form of energy discernible to the natural physical
senses of man.
Through your senses you know the world about you, yet the sensations you receive
through the senses are oftentimes confusing and convey wrong knowledge. For example
— if we minee onion and, holding the nose, place it in the mouth we experience asweetish taste indistinguishable from that of minced apple. Vanilla in its puré form has
no taste. W hat you think is taste, is the ethereal odor of vanilla that you smell.
Individuality refers to the mortal, material side of you, the clothes you wear, theway you speak, your physical appearance. Personality is the distinct manifestation of
character; the part that is you, your inner self or identity as separate from everyone else.
While evolving in the womb of the mother from the protoplasmic cell to the ma-tured embryo, man's body during the period of nine months, passes through every
definite state of animal evolution. This is easily discernible.
The involuntary acts of your body are the result of an inherent psychic intelligence.
Some of these acts are the functioning of the heart, lungs, blood stream, digestión,growth of cell structure. The psychic intelligence direets them properly without your
volition.
The inner sensations are indications of soul. For example, the impelling urges of the
instinets with their attributes, the emotions. Every man has these without exception
and they are of Divine origin.
Man is not the maker of physical or natural environment. IT IS iust as MAN IS.
However, dviJ ization, society, culture, is man-made environment. bince man is its
maker, he should be its master, and not let it confine him.
When you suffer pain, isolate with your consciousness its exact area. Focus yourattention on that area. Try to feel the rhythmic pulsations; exelude every other impres-
sion from your mind. Then note after a few minutes, how the pain diminishes, becauseyou have directed your consciousness to that area and it has soothed and eased theirritation.
Imaginaron is a marvelous atfribute of mind, permitting the projection of thought
into the future. It takes from the memory elements of the known; that is, impressions,
reconstructs and reassembles them, forming new mental images.
Three dimensions convey to the mind the area in space which an object occupies, but they do not describe the nature of the object. The fourth dimensión is the one that
gives the object identity and distinguishes it from every other object of like three di-
mensions. For example, 3x6x5 gives you no realization of a thing, but if I say "box"
your mentaf pfeture is compíete. The fourth dimensión, then, is the descrfption o f anobject. It should also give mathematically its atomic nature.
Beauty is the harmony of anything that is pleasing to the mind and senses of man.
Every individual interprets this sensation of harmony differently, and therefore has dif-
ferent ¡deas as to the nature o f beauty. The proof of this is that which is unpleasant to
man is not beautiful to him.
Life cannot be destroyed. When you kill, you merely destroy form and release life
forcé, (f every specie were íciíled in a certain area, life woufd spring up again in simpler
form if conditions were susceptible to it.
