Raw Material StocksTo minimise leadtimes, an extensive range of material pro-files is held on stock supported by various specialist steel sup-pliers.

Sawing off the peg The rails are cut to the desired length.

Milling and hobbingThe rail has its contour machin-ed. Milling or hobbing depends on the volume of material to be removed.

DrillingWe drill the rails with pitch error compensation for the harde-ning process. As a result multi-piece rails can be easily moun-ted.

Through hardeningIs one of our core competen-cies. Cross-sections with a thickness of up to 55mm can be through hardened.

Hardening and quenching up to 3mThrough hardening results in more stable and good straight rails. Through hardened railscan also be reground.

Maximum single piece rail lengths: - induction hardened up to 6000mm - through hardened up to 3000mm

Induction hardeningis of particular interest for very large cross sections, as well as very long components. Only the required surface areas of thecross-section are hardened.

Induction hardening and quenching up to 6mLonger single piece rail lengths means the number of butt joints can be reduced. A close tole-rance is kept on the hole pit-ches.

Then tempering and…The hardening process induces internal stresses. A careful tem-pering eliminates such stresses without affect on the hardness.

…careful straighteningTo prepare the rails for an effici-ent grinding operation, the rails are thermally and/or mechani-cally straightened.

Efficient pre-grindingThe cross hatch with high pres-sure results in a high straight-ness of the rail in the non-fixed condition. Surface finishes to Ra = 1.0μm Parallelism < 0.03mm/m.

End grindingForstraightorangledbuttjointsfor gap-free multi-piece rails. This is done in efficient multiple settings.

Coatings and sliding materialsCoatings for hardness, corrosi-on resistance or aesthetics are available. Slideways with vari-ous ground plastic or metal fric-tionless wear strips.

MarkingFortraceabilityorstockcontrolthe guideways are marked by laser. Butt joint ends are marked with identification numbers.

Gear racksDepending on the loading, gear racks are either thoroughly har-dened, case-hardened or induction hardened, nitrided or hardened and tempered. The material varies depending on the process.
