As an athlete growing up in Fort Mill, Dwayne McClain played football, and almost any other sport ending in ‘ball’. After high school he attended York Tech and received an Associate’s Degree in Industrial Electricity and Electron-ics, but couldn’t shake the desire to be part of the game.

Eight years ago, he began coaching football at Nation Ford High School on the offensive line and developed a relationship with the Clemson coaching staff during a recruiting trip. Inspired and encouraged by Coach Swinney to pursue his dreams, Dwayne opted for part-time employment (after working 12 years with the Authority) while he

finished his undergradu-ate degree at Winthrop.

This semester Dwayne was unanimously accepted into the master’s program in Athletic Leadership at Clemson University (which accepts only 25 students each year), and can be seen on the Clemson sidelines working as an Assistant to the Offensive Line

Coach. The job is unpaid and worked as an internship, but will give insight into all aspects of college coaching including game planning and recruitment. “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity”, said Dwayne, and after he and his family discussed it they were “ALL IN”, as the saying goes.

South Carolina CO Awareness MonthCarbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless, colorless gas produced by the incomplete burning of various fuels, including coal, wood, charcoal, oil, kerosene, propane, and natural gas. Deaths and illnesses are completely preventable with the installation of a CO detector. All new homes are required to have CO alarms, but before 2014 detectors were not required by law or code. If your home has gas appliances it is recommended that you install a battery-operated or battery back-up CO detector in your home, and check or replace the battery when you change the time on your clocks each spring and fall. Have your gas appliances checked regularly and be sure all appliances are properly vented and free of obstructions.

the importance of venting gas appliancesFor side wall vented appliances such as direct vent furnaces, fireplaces and water heaters, do not allow the outside vent terminal to be blocked or obstruct-ed by vegetation, ice, snow or any other materials. Blocked vents can cause carbon monoxide to back-up into a building.
