Customer Spotlight: The Burnsteads

As a mid-sized, family-owned construction company with several hundred employees company-wide, The Burnsteads, a group of three independent home building companies, has been serving the Northwest for over 50 years.

Headquartered in Bellevue, WA, all three companies—Burnstead Construction LLC, Steve Burnstead Construction and Rick Burnstead Construction—have developed a reputation for building distinctive homes with quality workmanship at a good value.

Fred Burnstead, founder and father to Steve and Rick, heads up Burnstead Construction LLC. This is the most diverse of the three, focused on land development, commercial construction, single, multi-family residential construction, and property management for the Burnstead Companies.

Steve Burnstead Construction led by Steve Burnstead and Leo Suver, builds primarily high-end, single-family homes located on the east side of Lake Washington in the Seattle area. The company has also developed a community of custom homes in Suncadia Resort surrounded by some of central Washington’s finest alpine acreage and recreational and leisure activities.

Rick Burnstead Construction is a single-family custom home builder, focused on the upper end with amenities that add livability and value to each neighborhood.

Wide plank brushed hardwood floors used to be an upgrade for us, but now they have become so popular we decided to make them a standard. Besides being impressively stylish, we particularly love the brushed texture because it hides scratches beautifully. You don’t see the imperfections of the wood as much as the hand scraped or polished hardwood floors. To get the wide plank, the floor is engineered which is a more stable product than a solid hardwood floor. This means you’ll have modern, beautiful hardwoods for years to come.

Unique kitchen pendant lighting is a hot upgrade for buyers. When buyers design their kitchens, they tend to stick with neutral classic designs that are not too trendy because they want the style of the kitchen to last for years to come. By adding unique pendant lighting, buyers get a chance to be daring. Linear fireplaces are replacing the traditional square box fireplaces. Gone are the days where clients want the standard wood burning fireplaces! The light and heat that linear gas fire-places give provides a truly calming and relaxing atmosphere and the design pairs greatly with contemporary homes. From large-scale 12x24 tiles to small split-face stone, your options are endless.

Marble mosaics are an elegant way to add an accent to any room. Never going out of style, marble is a classic material that appeals to everyone. It is unique as no two pieces are alike.They are a great kitchen backsplash or shower accent. We have used them in backsplashes, mosaic baths in the shower and even the shower floor. Painted cabinets have always been a popular upgrade for Burnstead homes, and this trend still continues to soar. Clean, white kitchen cabinets are timeless and go with everything! This is a shame because this can either make or break the ambiance and design of the room! There are a variety of options to choose from, so it’s easy to find a match with whatever cabinet color you select. We love this type of tile flooring because it is simple and elegant and you often can’t tell that it is in fact tile. Pretty cool!

Glass tile kitchen backsplashes are another hot upgrade for 2016. Undoubtedly, kitchens are the heart of the home so putting money into your kitchen is always a good idea. If you’re looking for a way to brighten up your kitchen, glass tile is a great way to do this because it reflects the light beautifully. It comes in a multitude of gorgeous hues, textures and patterns to pair with your design aesthetic.

Cabinet hardware is an underestimated upgrade. By simply adding hardware to your cabinets, you can help define your own personal style. Its available in an assortment of finishes and colors so finding a perfect match is not difficult. We enjoy varying sizes in the kitchen for bigger drawers and cabinet doors to create interest. It can be pricey but is definitely worth the upgrade!

Personalize YourBathroom

Don’t keep your walls empty! Pick up a monogram letter at the local craft store or home goods store. Monogram letters come in various sizes, fonts and are easy to personalize. Paint it your favorite color and add lace or ribbon to make it stand out. Another place to add a monogram is on your towels.

Your bathroom should reflect your style and interests. Are you big on hiking and the outdoors? Add a potted plant or two to bring the outdoors inside. If you are looking for a more elegant bathroom, then decorate your bathroom with a French theme, and be sure to incorporate a favorite color.

Create A Functional Laundry RoomThe laundry room is where dirty clothes get dumped and the look of the space shouldn’t matter, right? Wrong! With a little planning, you can turn your laundry room into a functional space that is also beautiful.

You will want cabinets that will withstand dirt, grime and are water-resistant. Utilize custom cabinetry to create a flow that will make laundry easier. That means setting up a work surface and appliances in a logical arrangement that makes going from one to the other effortless (checkout our Craft & Utility rooms gallery for ideas.)

Everyone has clothes that need to hang dry. Install a rod or drying rack out of the way for items that aren’t able to go through the dryer. Remember to add a rubber mat under to catch any water from dripping clothes.

Encourage cleanliness with a hamper or two by the washing machine. This will keep you from having to climb over piles of dirty clothes.
