1 Reasons for why you would or would not recommend Richmond Valley

as a place to live

We chose it; the weather; no drought.

We believe we have the best climate and is one of the most beautiful places to live.

We are so far away as a community from the council chambers.

Valuations and rates are too high.

Unemployment is high, CBD is not attractive, very few facilities for families with young children.

Too much of rate payers money wasted on non basics by council high rates for services provided

in areas rural anti farming & business policies unless in Casino.

 To expensive rates wise.

THINGS ARE CROOK BUT COULD BE WORSE AS THEY ARE ELSEWHERE.

The town is run down, no recycling facilities, you have to pay to dispose of green waste and we

have no curb side pick-up for green waste, nothing for the kids to do, shops are dwindling away.

The RVC council area has the best of both worlds, from the sea to the bush. Evans Head is a

lovely little seaside town and Casino is a lovely little country town. The level of community

facilities is relatively low and neglected. There level of violence & alcohol abuse amongst certain

elements of the community is very hard to ignore. There are very poor and neglected areas of

the town, which seem to give a negative outlook for the overall community. Most people are very

nervous about walking around town after dark because of the points raised above.

The Council is not progressive enough in attracting businesses to the local area. With business

growth comes a larger rater base through families moving to the area.

The area is pictorial but the stench of sewage is awful.

Sometimes I love living here & sometimes I want to be elsewhere.

Richmond Valley has so much to offer - Council needs to promote itself better and promote its

people and events.

Rates too high for the services provided. Friendly neighbourhood.

Quite a nice place to live.

Quiet country town, most services available in the area, even if outside Richmond Valley. Good

climate, just emerging from the 70's.

Positives, cheap housing and good schools. Negatives, doctor shortage, loss of services, crime.

Not a place to encourage young families, no youth facilities, and new development is not

encouraged enough into the area. The majority of the towns (with exception of Evans Head who

gets everything), is ugly, untidy and falling into a dilapidated state. Parks are not well kept and

the roads are falling apart both in and out of towns (with the exception of Evans Head).

No improvements at all happening - very grotty looking - not impressive at all.

New to the area and yet to find out all the good things about the area but we love it and the

house we have recently purchased.

Natural attraction and climate of the locality plus the community aspect of living in a village whilst

using the proximity to regional facilities of Lismore, Ballina and the Gold Coast to support lifestyle.

Medical services in this town severely lacking. Long term residents should not need to go out of

town for these services.

 Lovely area, reasonable facilities.

Lovely area but council too arrogant, lazy, unsupportive to general development.

Location/lifestyle - not council’s fiscal management or community consultation.

 Location and lifestyle.

Lack of public transport, isolation, lack of innovation of local council, lack of environmentally

sound projects, lack of communication with local communities, ineptitude of current Councillors

and Council senior management.

It’s ok if you want absolutely no services whatsoever and want to spend your entire income on

car repairs because the roads are so appalling.

 It’s a lovely area..I live in Woodburn.

It is a good climate and a beautiful area.

Infrastructure is limited - rates are too high for services provided - no recycling of waste -

fragmented priorities/policies.

I would recommend the village I live in, not the council that currently does such a mediocre job

servicing us.

I think Evans Head is one of the most beautiful towns with most things to offer Residents.

I love the area because I have a strong family link here. I believe it has a great location to have

easy access to the coastal areas & over all the people are friendly. However, I believe we need

more community events in the centre of town (i.e. sales, music/buskers etc) to give the town

more atmosphere and more of a 'buzz' - it can often be very dull!

I live at New Italy and I feel that there is very little service for rural. I feel that I pay rates but do

not receive council services.

I have lived in Broadwater for the past 15 years and nothing gets done here... We have limited

walking tracks, and the kids don’t have a decent bike track to use to and from school. The

walking track doesn’t go past the Rileys Hill turn off on the highway and should be extended to

the post office at the service station. We have poor roadside drainage, the grass rarely gets cut

along the sides of the roadway in these drains and they should be covered drains, not open

drains. Drains are always overgrown. We have no public transport to major towns. We don’t get

any extra garbage collection services, no recycling, no sewage and high rates. The tennis club

and Bowling club at Broadwater should be assisted greatly by the council as it is the only sporting

facilities within this town. The turn off on the highway at Broadwater to Evans Head is too narrow

and trucks have difficultly negotiating this corner. There is no Give Way or stop sign on this

corner. The road from Evans Head to Broadwater needs repair and the centre line needs to be

painted again as it is virtually impossible to see the centre line as it is so faded. Very dangerous

in wet weather and reflectors would be an advantage on this stretch of roadway. The rubbish tip

at Evans Head should be open more often and the mulched plant material there should be

offered free or at a minimum charge to purchase. Environmentally it would be an advantage as

people who mulch their gardens don’t need to use as much water to maintain their gardens;

Councils should be utilizing this mulch material more often. The pile of mulch at Evans Head Tip

is huge. The pool at Evans Head should be a priority, and the soccer oval at Woodburn has

disgraceful amenities and is embarrassing for the local club committee when visiting teams use

these facilities. They are not cleaned and in urgent need of upgrading. The sports oval needs

topdressing at the end of the season to get all the uneven divots out of the playing fields.

I have chosen Richmond Valley above all others, ergo it is the best.

I don't believe that our Council is particularly good at providing services and support for

ratepayers, workers and community. But I believe that all-in-all it this is a lovely part of Australia.

(Albeit that we are very flood-prone, and RV council did not seem to object to Lismore sending

floodwater thru our properties via their town-saving levy-bank).

I believe Evans Head would be the Ideal Place to Live if the Rates were Structured Better.

Great spot on the North Coast. Friendly.

 Great place to live.

Great part of the world - nothing to do the council. I think the Council area is pathetic for

community services e.g. toilets, library, parks, and sporting fields.

Great climate and beauty of the area. General great lifestyle in the area.

Good place to live but generally the management and staff (not the counter girls they do a fine

job) of the council are seen as overpaid bureaucrats who see it as a chore to do any work. Crank

the rates up but still paying top dollar for monkeys to do no work.

 Good climate, good environment.

 FRIENDLY COUNTRY TOWN.

Friendly area. Great beaches - Evans Head. Reasonably priced area to live in.

 Friendly country town.

 Filthy streets. Facilities not maintained.

 Excellent environment, Great community spirit.

Despite the lack of entertainment facilities the Shire is a very good place to live and raise a

family.

Council does not listen to the peoples wishes, they ignore them.

Climate, closeness to the coast, reasonable cost of housing.

Climate and friendliness of local people.

 Climate.

 Cheap and Friendly.

Central to either the beaches or Gold Coast. Great scenery. Friendly atmosphere - especially since

the Neighbourhood watch programme started.

Casino rates combined with 4 x 1/4 sewage amounts is more than my sister in Brisbane & brother

in Sydney are paying for bigger properties with a lot more facilities. Majority of the local streets

are disgusting to drive on. Canterbury Street has been a lumpy, potholed road for 19years, the

amount of time we have owned our home. This is a major thoroughfare that allows access to the

train station, hospital and surrounding areas. I can only imagine what visitors to the town think

when they leave the train station via car or bus. Canterbury Street is only one example of the

disgusting roads we have to drive on in this town. Casino needs a central clean, disability friendly

toilet block in or very near the centre of town. On numerous occasions I have people from out of

town asking me where the local toilet facilities are & when I tell them they can use either the Bilo

or Woolies toilets they are horrified & on one occasion a woman commented ""How backwards is

this place, to not even have a toilet block"". I would have to agree with this woman!

Curb & guttering is another issue. Some streets already had curb & guttering, albeit unsafe and

dangerous, those streets have been in the process of being upgraded, yet us who live in certain

streets have never had cub & guttering, let alone upgrading.

Street lights are spars & few depending on where you live.

Our river & most of its riverbanks (near the bridge) is an eye sore. We have a beautiful river that

could be a major attraction and enjoyable place for locals & visitors to access, but it is littered

with over growth, rubbish and has an outdated park and car park. Really compared to other local

towns, what does Casino have to offer, not a lot, other than limited employment and a roof over

your head? I don't think these are big lifestyle draw cards for recommending Casino as a place to

live.

 Beautiful rural location.

A good place DESPITE its council, which is environmentally insensitive, financially inept and top-

heavy administratively.

A beautiful place to live, but rates are disproportionate to services received and so not a 10.

Yes it is a fair to live in Casino.

Yes because it's midway between coast and Brisbane airport. Far from beached etc. No because

of lack of council support.

Work when I had it, sport, family.

 Wonderful sense of community solidarity.

 Wonderful climate. Friendly people.

 Wonderful area.

Well Casino doesn't flood like some neighbouring towns and cities.

Weather, good shopping centres, community activities, quiet, rural scenic.

We settled here in 1985 from QLD and find the lifestyle conducive to our needs.

We need more business in town instead of turning them away give the people more jobs.

We must control coastal development and aim it to our inland town and cities, which will assist

them in their development and financially.

We moved to the area from Sydney, 2 and half years ago and the people are a lot more friendly,

we like being in a small country town.

We have been received very well by neighbours, business people, clubs and everyone in general.

A very friendly town.

We are very happy living here, we have lived here for 40 years in the village and all our lives in

this area, and people are very friendly and join with all community function.

We are only new to the area (Casino). There are many wonderful things about it and the people

are friendly. What is very disappointing is the lack of facilities/ services for families - few

playgrounds with very little in them - poor upkeep; public toilets in the parks are a disgrace.

We are lucky to live in a beautiful area - I would not recommend fully as more people will spoil

what we have.

Warm winter. Top cattle area. Good town. Wide streets etc.

Very tidy, clean and friendly. Casino is a great place.

Very pleasant climate - good neighbours make all the difference.

Very friendly town to live in. Central to other towns and a great country side.

 Unspoilt part of the world.

Towns need more toilet facilities and signs. Clean streets in an issue.

Town could look a lot nicer. Parks and public toilets are (picnic) on Broxner Highway look ugly.

Town always look dirty and need splash paint. Walking costs nothing but not enough walkways to

enjoy country side etc... Big wide streets with lots parental out, NO Trees to beautify. Attitudes.

Total rates are too high and will force us out of here. Love it here.

Too much vandalism in CBD by youths roaming around town at night unsupervised.

Too much crime and too expensive to live in.

Too expensive compare to other councils (e.g. rates). No recycling bins for households/no council

rubbish pick up days/ our parks and toilets are dirty and untidy. We should take a lesson from

Lismore’s parks and Grafton’s toilets.

Toilet facilities (Nil) of a weekend. Footpaths - cycleway ROTTEN badly needs repair and roads

around town area very rough in some areas, trees coming into Casino need long grass cutting

around them.

This town is not vibrant, doesn't seem to have local shakers and movers as many other NSW

towns have.

This is a beautiful region to live, great climate, scenic country, generally good services for

shopping and health/hospitals etc.

They own the no through road but don't bother to stop them.

They have let me down. I lost a buyer previously because of their incompetence it looks like it

might happen again.

They are getting nowhere, shops closing.

There are a lot of good things to see and do.

There are things that need doing but this area offers the chance for those prepared to work to

prosper.

There are only a few reasons why I would hesitate to recommend this area on the balance it is a

great place to live.

There are more beautiful places to live that I would recommend e.g. the Clarence Valley.

The Richmond Valley is a great place to live with a few exceptions.

The Richmond valley council area is a very pretty place to live and we enjoy fairly good services.

The reluctance of unified council to get on and do things without personalities impending the

smooth running.

 The rates structure.

The people, train and bus availability, numerous help to elderly and those in need.

The ongoing council rates debacle. The non - cohesive nature of councillors, mayor, ratepayers.

The lack of notice taken by council of opinion of ratepayers via community consultation e.g. CBD

upgrade, nose in parking.

The N.S.W government rating of this council area should explain this assessment of my

recommendation.

The low number above shows that the rate payers are not satisfied with the maintenance in our

town, lower river.

The high rates in Evans Head. The favouring of Casino above the rest of the shire. The dirty river

(Evans) water from Rocky Mouth Creek (overflow over the man-made canal).

The council is the most hated I have ever heard of and getting worse and since amalgamation it's

a top secret council. That always knows best and keeps residents in the dark.

The council is not progressive in its approach to planning and building with a priority for water,

environment and climate change.

The climate, the beaches, the rain forest. The Richmond Valley has it all. I have lived in Casino

for eighty one years and never had the urge to move.

The climate is good, most people are kind and friendly all basics are available.

The CBD is lacking more interesting shops.

The area is pretty good to reside in.

The area is nice but services are shitty and council does not care, Coraki is not on their radar.

The area is beautiful. Roads are appalling. Public transport is abysmal. Casino is averse to "green"

thinking.

The area is beautiful especially Evans head but we are appalled and ashamed of our council.

The area is a great place to live, but employment opportunities are limited.

The area is a beautiful place. Has great potential for industry and tourism, but not managed well

by previous councils.

 That's their choice.

State of urban and rural roads, Racist problems.

Stabilise spread of population. Promote smaller villages.

 Space.

Some towns in the area are pleasant places to live with good neighbours, close to a beach and

basic facilities.

Some areas of Richmond Valley are beautiful. Rural and coastal areas are terrific. Casino is a

racist, redneck, throwback blight on the north coast.

Some areas have improved, many years no change or improvements.

 So much crime.

So long as you do not require 5 star ratings. A beautiful convenient area for some.

 Small village atmosphere.

Small town with all needed services and amenities without the stress of larger cities and towns

Shoe us somewhere better than Casino. Casino has the lot, all in its favour, shame about the in

house rot that has taken place.

Services to the town I live in. Poor service.

 Services no good.

Richmond Valley is beautiful and people friendly and very family and community oriented.

Richmond Valley is a lovely place to live but I would not recommend it due to the council which

manages it.

Richmond valley is a great place to live for elderly or families with work. Most young people have

to leave to find work and the unemployment rate is higher than national average.

Richmond Valley is a great place to live for climate, not overcrowded, is a little expensive for what

infrastructure etc on offer.

Relaxed atmosphere. Friendly town. Ease of shopping, hospitals and medical services.

Regardless of the council the Richmond Valley is a great place to live.

Recycling should be a basic service and not applied with a surcharge. Many other councils provide

it. Very dog 'un-friendly'. More off-leash area's required. Council is primarily focussed on the good

of Casino - which is evident from the Casino related question in the survey.

Reasonably priced homes, close to beaches. TAFE and Uni close by.

Rates not paid on even basis.

Rates have become immoral and unjust of late. Road maintenance has been neglected. Mowing

of roads and town area has been non-existent. But does appear to be better with latest

councillors.

Rates are far too high at Evans Head.

 Racism. Unemployment.

 Quiet, pleasant surroundings, river etc.

Quiet, peaceful living. For the shires population the services are admirable.

Quiet, less traffic congestion, friendly great environment.

Question is not really relevant more of a decision of individual concerns.

Proximity to the Richmond Rive, the Beaches, rain forest scenery and pleasant climate.

Proximity to everything and services. Good neighbourhood.

Provided the current infrastructure and services are maintained at Coraki. It is an ideal place to

live and/or retire to. The retirement village/hospital combination (on level ground) is ideal for the

elderly.

Problems with crime in the town and works being done.

Pretty good. Green waste and recycle is a bit non- available. Bit slack as some building

specifications and follow-up's etc.

Poorly managed financially and getting worse.

 Poor development decision.

 Pleasant climate – affordable.

Perhaps if you lived in the CBD of Casino it might be a 10 but not where we live at Broadwater.

People are friendly. Central to major towns. Area is growing rapidly.

People - varied landscape - ease of parking - in Casino - not too much traffic councillors are very

approachable.

Peaceful coastal village with low crime and good fishing (Evans Head). Despite the councils poor

support for development opportunities still exist if you are willing to fight.

Parts of the Richmond Valley are ok as 'community; but overall the council is negative and

unhelpful. Some council staff are arrogant and very rude.

Paradise. Best place to live but needs some work.

Only been a resident for 16 months (but a non-urban dweller for the past 21 years out of the

past 23 years).

Only because I have lived here for many years and have some wonderful friends.

Nothing here to encourage people to live here. No entertainment for kids, hard to get

employment.

Not too urbanised and not too big and busy. Evans Head is a beautiful place. The Richmond River

(when it’s clean and not too silted up).

Not much work for the young people.

No recycle bins, etc so little regard to environmental issues; roads are embarrassing; no youth

outlets; the one big community park is a dismal unattractive area; roads into town are

unattractive compared to other towns; bike tracks for child safety.

No place is perfect, yet Casino is getting there. Need more entertainment.

No decent shopping, very un-tidy, nothing to entice people to come to the town. Compared to

Evans Head, Casino is a disgrace.

No answer because my reply would depend on who I was talking to. Richmond Valley may be

great for some and terrible for others. Plus is covers a large area of land and water so for me this

is a very silly question.

 Nice weather and good location.

Nice surrounds, good environment, good for children.

 Nice place to live.

 Nice friendly area.

Nice country town close to everything.

Near to large shopping centres, beach and Brisbane. Having the Sydney-Brisbane rail line passing

through it. Doctors and dentists (waiting time not as long as some places). Very little flood prone

area.

Near the beach at Evans Head, good climate, nice people live here, good schools and some

facilities.

 Mostly a friendly town.

Most services are available, good climate. I am happy with the council performance.

Most people including shop keepers are friendly.

More trees on sporting grounds. Improvement program on road building and construction.

Building and footpaths and cleaning programs.

Lovely place with varied landscapes. Shame about the people. Council does best they can - some

offices could do more.

Lovely little villages and towns close to major centres without impacting on the relaxed feel of the

towns.

 Lovely climate, natural attractions.

Love the climate - it's a friendly, warm place. Most of my social needs are met here and it's close

enough to Lismore/ Brisbane / Gold Cost for other social needs.

 Location to major cities.

Location in relation to larger centres.

Locality, weather, distance to beaches, specialists (medical) are within 2-3 hours.

Locality is good, services need improving.

 Local council rate structure.

Lived here all my life. Like the area.

 Like the quiet life.

Like living in the area and we need a bigger population in our shire.

Lifestyle, close to major centres, beach.

Lifestyle and generally a friendly rural community. Central location and ease of access to various

facilities in the region.

 Lifestyle.

 Less crime than other centres.

 Landscape, Location.

Land rates too high - unified structure unfair in Evans Head. Community views not listened to

Evans when majority disapprove of council action.

Land and house prices are reasonable.

Lack or work - no public transport outside of Casino and Evans Head. Shortage of medical service

Lack of police. Poor roads. Lack of policing alcoholic drinking in streets.

Lack of control of behaviour of indigenous idiots littering normally.

It's peaceful. Traffic flows freely. You can get anything you need in Casino at competitive prices.

People are friendly.

It's a good place to live.

 It's a dirty town.

It's a beautiful area, fantastic beaches. Excellent school in Evans Head.

It still has lots of natural environmental areas. It still has time to do proper planning for the

future. RICHMOND VALLEY MUST BECOME GREENER OR IT WILL BE LEFT BEHIND.

It is not perfect but as, if not better than, many other places or areas. It is a pleasant place and

community.

It is friendly, close to coast. Has a great hospital that should get more funding.

It is friendly, caring go ahead community that is always willing to seek improvements in facilities.

It is a welfare town - the streets are dangerous at night a big percentage are not house proud.

No street frontage. A visiting health professional said ' Casino looks like a tired town'.

It is a very friendly town with not too much hustle and bustle to deal with.

It is a great place to live very central friendly place.

It has every convenience that I required with friendly community.

It depends on what people are looking for - this is a very expensive place to live - we need to

travel for the medical facilities, transport and entertainment.

It could be a better place I have been robbed 2 times in Casino.

Is a friendly place to live and is near to everything.

I would find it hard to recommend a town where basic services are neglected e.g. sewage, roads,

unclean CBD.

Increased good shopping facilities. Proximity to the coast and gold coast.

I was born in Casino and I like the place.

I want to see the area grow.

I think Richmond Valley Council is one of the most poorly run councils in the state so I wouldn't

recommend anyone I know to live here.

I really like where I live but I don't need more neighbours.

I really like where I live but I do not need more neighbours.

I personally love Casino and surrounds but I believe there could be a lot of work done to increase

its appeal (beautification - parks, gardens and improvements of sporting facilities).

 I love it, others wouldn't.

I live in Evans Head firmly from Casino - this is the best area in Australia and our Mayor Col

Sullivan leads us to greater things.

I live at Evans Head. It is beautiful.

I have travelled all over Australia, have seen the country in drought it rains sometimes near the

coast, aren't we lucky.

I have lived mostly in this area for 59 years, residing in Broadwater, Evan Head and Swan bay.

I have lived in North Casino for 29 years. I find the people friendly, a good community spirit and

overall the council does a good job and it’s a beautiful area.

I have lived here for 51 years and could not think of a better place to live.

I have enjoyed living here all my life.

 I hate crowds.

I find at present we have all the services provided and within walking distance in the CBD for

people my age. We also have community, government services to help the elderly or sick in their

homes or with medical transport.

I feel that council could do a lot more for Evans Head after all we do pay HIGH RATES.

I enjoy living in Coraki. I am rate payer but when it comes to keeping the paddock across from us

to be slashed there has to be a car accident or a motor bike accident for it to be maintained. The

drains are ridiculous!

I do not believe activities of local government would influence where people live. Greater

influences would be localities of business industry.

I am on age pension and it doesn't rise like our rates do.

I am an aged home owner with no vehicle and no family. I find the people in Casino the most

friendly and helpful. I have found, having lived in numerous locations around Australia.

Having travelled Australia and overseas we have always promoted Casino and surrounding areas.

Haven't had enough to do with council to rate high or low.

Have resided in Casino for 30 years and therefore we are happy.

Have lived here for 48 years.

Have lived happily and raised family here.

Has some nice villages and seaside to give in but not being well managed.

Has good climate, rivers, bush, and you can access other areas within a short time, friendly

people.

Great sense of pride and community.

Great place to live, friendly and affordable.

Great place to live but services provided by council don't reflect rates paid to council. People’s

backyards are flooding due to medium rainfalls because water on roads just washes onto rate

payers properties.

Great place to live but roads are a problem - Myall Ck Rd is always messy as rubbish falls from

trailers and is usually left to rot on roadside - who would want to live near that.

Great place to live because it doesn't go along with the rest of the country. It's highly

recommended for peace and quiet and enjoying life.

Great place but lacks infrastructure and services - the local roads are bad, health services and

hospitals are only of third world standard, telecommunication services are poor; and council does

not have a kerbside service.

 Good weather. Country town.

Good weather, Jobs, People, Country place.

Good town to raise children. Easy access to shopping. Friendly community.

Good rural town with most facilities.

Good rage of facilities available e.g. sporting facilities, hospital, library, clubs, nursing homes.

Great climate - close to larger centre e.g. Brisbane but still live a country lifestyle.

 Good place to live generally.

Good place to live as any but it has its problems - nothing dramatic though.

 Good place to live.

Good climate, still has lot of wildlife, organic food (Fresh) available, national parks in area, large

variety of cultural activities available nearby (e.g. Lismore).

Good climate and position to coast.

Good climate - location from city, beaches or mountains.

 Good climate.

Good area. Close to major centres and beaches.

Generally this is a great area, friendly, reasonably cheap, mostly clean and council approachable

and co-operative.

 Friendly shops ok. Rates fair.

 Friendly services, good.

Friendly people, good weather, close to major centres, affordable real estate, country town

hospitality.

Friendly people, close to surf coast, good educational facilities. Disadvantages - lack of jobs, poor

roads and transport - airways, health services, lack of special health services.

Friendly people not over populated, easy place to shop, good hospitals, and aged care facilities

great.

 Friendly and community minded people.

Friendly all necessary services, hospital (but Dr. Shortages), railway, climate OK. Affordable

housing. Close to beach and maintain (rain forest).

Friendly, close to all services e.g. hospitals centralised.

 Friendliness

Flood free. Good shopping and parking.

 Find council frustrating.

Financial mismanagement. In-fighting/power plays. Lack of understanding/insight. Ignoring the

public opinion.

Fantastic area to live for families to grow up in central to accessing transport and health facilities.

However, council only doing absolute basics - no pride in area / adequate promotion.

Excessive rates increases. Anti business and farming policies unless in Casino.

Excellent services. Challenge to find employment.

Excellent climate, reasonable facilities, beaches, sporting group.

Evans Head is a wonderful place to live.

Evans head is a quiet pleasant environment in which to live but I don't want to experience over

development which would ruin the village atmosphere and lifestyle. Many people have settled

here away from over-populated areas.

Evans Head is a great place to live.

Evans Head - nice climate. Convenient little well serviced town. Good bowls club. Close to

beaches.

Enjoy the rural lifestyle - can have property, animals and beauty but still work and play in a

decent sized town.

Emphasis seems to be on the very young and the very old - not much in between.

E.g. Coraki is in the middle of say Evans for beach and Lismore for shopping and banking. But the

town is not kept clean and tidy anymore. Our roadsides are dangerous and untidy.

Easy access to all types of transport, towns, beaches, sporting events, health facilities and

temperature. Excellent for most of the year.

Easily accessible to major towns - if you have own transport. Good climate, interesting place to

visit.

Ease of communication. Community caring people. Available service.

Diverse lifestyle from coastal villages through to rural communities to townships.

Depends on the area where you purchase.

 Depends on needs.

Decline in council services and continual rate increases since council amalgamation - too top

heavy.

Country town atmosphere and community involvement. No traffic problems - easy parking - no

traffic lights or speed cameras - static house values and opportunities for future growth.

Council management needs revamping and brought into line.

Council management aside, casino has the best of everything or close at hand. A friendly country

town, close to the beach, mountains, major metropolitan areas.

Council is top heavy and has far too much nuisance value in the community. Council are anti

development and planning staff are incompetent to say the least.

Council has trouble providing a lot of basic things (e.g. sports field, toilets). The way things are

dealt with in relation to applications for extensions / new buildings etc have been seen to be in

favour of some and not others even tough similar situations.

Council doesn't appear to respond to ratepayers requests. Basic service only. Town entry and

exists dull and uninviting. Parks and gardens not maintained. Area no beautification - quite an

ugly town.

Council neglects Mortimer lane full of pot holes. Trees need a trim.

Continuous bickering and backbiting amongst some council members as well as an 'us and them’

re Evans Head and Casino. The unaccountability to ratepayers.

 Closeness to everything. Climate.

Closed shops, vacant premises. Bird poo all over payments. Old signs - businesses moved - signs

remain. No where to eat on Sundays.

Close to other towns and services.

Climate, proximity to coast, natural productiveness and beauty of the area, relative cost of

property.

Climate, next to major city (Brisbane). Close to beaches and the mountains.

 Climate. Close to airport.

Climate good. Lots rural area, with services of towns. However rating could be improved by more

services for children - there is nothing for kids.

 Climate good fishing friendly people.

 Climate and personal safety.

 Climate and location.

 Climate and lifestyle.

Climate - hospital services at Coraki.

 Climate.

Clean, pleasant shop assistants. Weather mostly. Friendly people.

Clean town, no graffiti, most homes well tended to! Good home prices, rural lifestyle only BLOCKS

away!!

Central to major cities e.g. Gold Coast, Brisbane. Afford ability of housing. Good hospital,

emergency services, fair community spirit.

Central to all major attractions. Reasonable loving costs.

Because I live here it must be a lovely place to be.

Casino was a beautiful and safe town when I was a child and not it is very unsafe and dirty and

ugly. If it was as safe and clean as it was 30-40 years ago. I would have no hesitation in

recommending it.

Casino used to be a beautiful town now it is dowdy and all the young riff raff wandering the

streets make it look like a homeless haven.

Casino is a nice friendly busy little town and the surrounding country side and beaches are lovely

and well looked after.

Casino is a great place to live. There needs to be a PYC or similar for young people.

Casino is a great place to live - could be a lot better is RVC - RTA and police would communicate

and liaise with each other and the public and federal government to provide more.

Casino is a friendly town with reasonable service.

Evans Head is a beautiful place and not spoilt by high rise development. Keep it as a quite village

that is it.

Casino is a friendly easy town to live in.

Casino is a friendly community with a real sense of community spirit. People smile and speak to

you in the street. Facilities are good, maybe not outstanding but easily accessible.

Casino has been my shopping centre for 59 years but have only lived in Casino for 13 years.

Casino has all basic services and access to more specialised services.

Casino has a lot to offer. We are close to the Coast, the Gold Coast and Brisbane and Sydney.

People are friendly and most keep their home and lawns tidy.

Casino and surrounding areas at the pick of the Far North Coast.

 Caravan motor village.

Centrally located the climate. What not available in Casino may be in Lismore 20 min away or

overnight from Brisbane. Both coastal and hinterland are nearby.

 Better than most other places.

 Best part of Australia.

Being pensioners we find it difficult in keeping up with rate increases and water charges.

Because you have the best of all world in this area. Great coastal area, beautiful lands and sub-

tropical climates, all within a stone's throw to the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Because they spend all the money in Casino or Evans Head. Nothing much in Woodburn, the

drains are never cleaned or the edge of the street in Alfred are awful.

Because the town has nothing to offer for young children and nothing to offer for the elderly

people.

Because of the climate, Casino is a great town with friendly business people and all necessary

services.

Because of the climate not far from the beach.

Because it is friendly and a peaceful place to live.

Because by management of the council nothing gets done in any small areas other than Casino.

Beautiful town - friendly community and so close to different towns i.e. Lismore, Byron, Evans

Head, Tenterfield.

 Beautiful quiet place.

Beautiful place to live but the services are not good enough.

 Beautiful coastal town.

Beautiful area to live - climate, location to beaches, rain forest, Gold Coast. Downfall of Richmond

Valley is it’s impossible to get things through council, always so many obstacles.

Basic services of not seem to be 1st on council agenda. Road, sewerage, retail outlets to keep

garbage clean. Bird poo all over paths. Do not need extra people in Casino until basic services are

brought up to standard.

As I have lived here all my life.

As a life-long resident that appreciates what Casino is I've rated 8 if council was more in tune to

the towns Soul it would have been 10, I should have put 4 for council.

Area is picturesque, temperature OK. Most people are here, born so family is most important.

Area is good. Climate is great.

After living in Sydney, this place is just fantastic, it reminds me of the 1950's people stop and

smell the roses and we have real weekends.

A pleasant rural environment. Friendly communities.

A pleasant area in which to live, sufficient facilities and services, close enough to Brisbane,

surrounding tourist areas and beaches, Airport (for travel to Sydney) only 20 minutes away.

A great town to live and raise a family as we have done.

A great place to live, convenient to the coast and close to major shopping centres, beautiful

scenic drives, friendly people, ideal climate.

A great place to bring up a family and Casino township has all you need to conduct day to day

services

 A good happy town.

A good area close to all amenities / services.

A friendly and caring town. I have lived here over 60 years and love it.

A beautiful place to live. However, it will spoil Evans Head to lift restrictions. The south side will

soon look like those crowded hills of Japan and China, with each home trying to out-build the

neighbours for the best view, leave it as it is!

 A beautiful place to live.

2 What do you see should be Council’s priority services and programs?

Roads & health; promote tourism properly.

Better roads, Evans Head Swimming pool.

Programs for the youth! Facilities for the youth, especially in smaller communities. Toilets in

Evans Head CBD.

 Playgrounds, roads, upgrade of CBD.

Lower rates for farmers so rates reflect services provided.

IMPROVED SAFETY. CHILDREN OFF STREETS. EMPLOYMENT.

 Recycling.

The roads need constant maintenance, but I guess this is limited by available funds.

Lobbying for a greater Police presence after dark. Renovating / improving the overall

appearance of the CBD, the parks and sporting facilities. The council has an excellent

swimming pool, but the facilities attached to them obviously have not received any attention

since the day they were built. Provide facilities for the youth of Casino to use as an

alternative to their current habits.

CBD beautification. Aggressively canvas businesses to move to the Local area. Continued

upgrades of local roads and infrastructure.

Listen to the people and fix the sewages above.

Looking to the future, roads, stop wasting money, we are our own unique area & I wish we

could stop being compared to other local councils, making the most of what we have, looking

after it & stop trying to outdo others, more community input, talk & listen to staff, both

indoor & outdoor, they are the ones on the ground dealing everyday with people face to face.

 RECYCLING, RECYCLING, RECYCLING.

Keeping rates as low as possible instead of increasing because Casino needs work. Let Casino

residents pay for their own maintenance. Rates should be equal for all areas of the Council!!!

 Roads.

Local roads & bridges. Industrial area separate from residential, not a council residential

development alongside the finite industrial area.

Kerbside recycling, a must in this era. I don't mind paying for it. Rallying for more doctors

and health care providers in town.

YOUTH FACILITIES for white kids as well. Fix the roads and the parks. Clean the towns up -

except Evans Head.

Make Casino more attractive to visitors. E.g. beautification of streetscapes, particularly within

the CBD. Make the most of the wide verges that enhance the lovely appearances of the older

homes in Casino and cover up the warts of those that aren't so nice.

Sustainable development in social, environmental and economic terms to retain the attraction

and uniqueness of the area.

Basic services - smoothing footpaths. Roads. Regular policing of footpaths through CBD.

Implement program to control motorised scooters on footpaths in CBD.

Sewerage for Broadwater and remainder of Evans Head and outlying areas. Cycleways

throughout Richmond Valley. Maintain roads and other infrastructure.

To serve the people of the area equally, with quality performance, not just in Casino, but ALL

villages.

Evans Head pool, fiscal management, community consultation. Restore walkways at end of

Ash St and top end of surf club. Rubbish bins for Stan Payne Oval.

 Infrastructure and aged care

Environmentally, sustainable programs and services that are not antiquated or out of date.

FIX THE ROADS PROPERLY!!! What is the point of having any community services or Casino

CBD started up if you can’t even get there because your car gets written off or needs

expensive repairs every time you leave your property? Any recent work done on our roads

has been no more than a band-aid solution to major problems and any work that has been

done is of such POOR QUALITY its lucky to last a week before its worse than when it was

started. DISGUSTING! And you should be ashamed of yourselves!

 Water drainage problems & roads.

That council funding is spent more evenly throughout the area on things like Coraki's main

street including footpath and roadway, which are in appalling condition. This makes a

dangerous situation for disabled or elderly person/s.

Roads, water, sewerage - essential infrastructure maintained not fixed when broken. Rate

system to be amended - collaborative and innovative programs to involve private enterprise

in partnership with waste, environment and other programs.

They should at the very least approach whatever issue with a can do attitude, and be willing

to be Community driven. Currently they need to be flogged every step of the way.

 To Build a Swimming Pool.

Kerb-side recycling. I would be happy to pay extra on my rates for this service! Thinking

outside the square to create a buzz in the street (I often read about Kyogle getting involved

in activities in the main street & feel we are being left behind!). Let's encourage consumers to

stay here and spend the $$ here instead of Lismore!!! Family days are great!

Roads are my biggest concern, I don't really know of a road that is in what I would call good

condition.

To hurry up and get the sewage service installed at Broadwater. To install covered drainage

at Broadwater. To upgrade sporting facilities. To get the Pool at Evans Head open. To fix the

Broadwater to Evans Head turnoff and roadway. To implement some form of public transport

for the elderly from Evans Head to Lismore or Ballina.

Promotion of community trust - less spin and no lies; tourism (i.e. hire a community-friendly

and effective tourism officer); the website; support of community organisations, especially

the two community radio stations and the community newspaper; less red tape.

Remember that Casino and Evans Head are not the only towns in your jurisdiction. Don't

overcharge those of us who have no sewerage or garbage services - should provide free

garbage vouchers (if in doubt, ask Lismore City Council). RECYCLING.

 Swimming Pool.

Parks and recreational activities in town.

Tidy the town up. New Library Building.

Recycling. Upgrade of CBD - including public toilet blocks with baby change and feeding

areas. Upgrade of parks and sporting fields - surely the lack of shade is an OH&S issue!

Listen to people. Try being helpful instead of obstructionist. Economic development should be

a priority. Responsible Financial management across all programs. Providing basic services

that are needed and expected of a council to provide. Sewerage, roads, recycling services.

Proper planning of resources to meet those needs in a reasonable time. Undertaking proper

maintenance so things don't fall apart and cost more to fix.

SPORTS FIELDS and PARKS - The sporting facilities (cricket fields need serious help).

Maintain roads and drainage systems, maintain and improve libraries.

More cultural institutions including a new library at Casino and Evans head.

Improving rural roads - more sealed rural roads - slashing of unsealed rural roads where

there are visibility problem (black spots) - winding of some rural roads - better drainage.

More communication with people in rural areas (set up a program where representatives from

rural areas can have meetings with Council staff etc to discuss the needs of their areas).

Make the town centre safer - more lighting - low growing plants near pedestrian crossings -

shrubs to big - the shrubs hide people approaching the crossing cannot see them until they

are actually on the crossing - there have been some near misses near these crossings.

 Youth

Initially maintain what we have, then improve facilities before providing new facilities.

 Roads and associated infrastructure.

The council needs to put a firm hand on its senior management who basically carry on in an

accountable manner. The General Manager does not manage.

Community Facility Management and support to Community Service Providers and Businesses

in Richmond Valley.

A parent feeding and change room facility - NOT a foldaway table in the main public toilets...

Roads upgraded & maintained. A roundabout at Centre & Canterbury Street. Public toilets.

Parks and public Facilities & amenities for children, teenagers & disabled people & the

broader community. Community liaising, consulting & informing. Footpaths, curb & guttering

in every street. Street lights for safety and visibility after dark. Accountability of financial

spending & decisions. Recycling.

 Better customer services.

Kerbside recycling, improved stormwater runoff management, improved roadworks.

Recycling, how embarrassing to live in such a beautiful area and rubbish our environment!

Update sewerage services. Develop a cycle/walkway master plan and stick with it.

The upgrade of the local road network. Sporting venues in the council area need to be

brought up to a better standard. Water & Sewer programs need to be improved Council

seems to be slow at completing them. E.g. Broadwater sewer scheme. This project was to be

finished within three years. Time is up and no sewer. However the residents of Broadwater

pay sewer charges for sewer they have not got.

Restore justice so all aspects of the community can be in harmony. Recycling!!!!

Parks should be upgraded, sporting field such as netball courts (more hard courts).

Road, Beautification etc, encouraging business to come and stay.

Roads! Control of bicycle riding on the CBD footpaths. Press for more Police.

1/ Roads and drains maintenance. 2/ be able to talk to appropriate person and council when

making an enquiry (not have keep running back and forth with messages).

 Health programs for seniors.

Widening the rural roads, slashing roadside grass and cleaning the drains alongside rural

roads. Better organisation towards "BEEF WEEK" programs.

Kerb side recycling services, improve information centre (Casino), start putting Christmas

street decorations - back up for Christmas.

More "doing things" for the young people, a place for them to meet and socialise in their own

right, citizens youth club?

Keep in contact with rural town and villages, as in letters or phone, as we do NOT get a

paper delivered. Regular maintenance as in after storms things do not get done until a local

rings and maybe then it does.

Beautification of entrances to towns. Better facilities for children/teens. Better use of the

river. Provide a recycling bin not just a single wheelie bin for all household waste.

Look after the people, maintain ALL rural roads.

 Better roundabouts.

Council is doing just fine. Maybe make pedestrian crossings a little more visible.

 Efficiency everywhere.

 Recycle bins.

Cleaning approached to Evans Head and cleaning of rubbish on footpaths.

Attention requirements to safe roads, safe streets, clean water supply.

Programs - street need to be more family, oriented at night, need to be redesigned.

When people visit you want them to leave with a good memories - e.g. clean facilities, places

to stroll, river should be asset. Encourage pride in town. Don't let naughty kids win by giving

up and letting them trash the joint.

Do more of normal things council are supposed to do lawns. Fire breaks not done now and

drains, pot holes etc, rubbish in streets.

Upgrading roads, backing the return XPT from Casino to Murwillumbah.

To maintain urban roads and footpaths which at in horrendous condition.

Beautifying the town/attracting more industries here and businesses and to not impose too

many rules for an industry or business to set up in Casino. The rates imposed on current

businesses are not uniform.

Cutting grass along road edges and around tress, coming into Casino drainage of storm water

essential. This is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Build a new aquatic centre at Evans Head with or without government funding. Beautify our

towns and make them more inviting. Get more community input into future planning.

Look after all view to the land as we all have to pay rates.

 Talk to the people.

 Roads are a must.

Road maintenance. Cost should be shifted to those causing the damage - heavy vehicles.

Repairing roads; making sure all constituents are being catered for not just a few; getting rid

of that damned 'nose in' parking that your constituents voted 76% against putting it there

and council ignored!

Roads, roadside slashing, the sealing of all urban roads in Casino e.g. Alcock lane, Lennox

Street.

 Roads. Cleaning up the CBD.

Safety, reliable services cameras in more areas and encourage more sustainable companies

to our area in view of long term future.

The re-introduction of children’s playground and equipment. The rationalisation of internal

staffing levels. An external public audit of the same.

 Roads, parks, sport grounds.

Cleaning streets in all towns on Richmond Valley. REPAIR RURAL ROADS.

A fairer rating for Evans Head, especially South Evans. Recognize that Evans Head is used

regularly by Casino Residents, with much pressure for us, the opposite does not occur!

(Evans Head people are Lismore and Ballina for shopping and health matters).

Facing the facts and have a real duty of care to residents out there, at new Italy, council

using sandstone to fill in now produces 37% wasted breathable dust, caustic silicosis.

Residents will now be expected by council to hold our breaths when a vehicle passes over

residence in dry times it's wet at this time and we all breathe 9 lbs of air per minute and

council will not fix their boo boo.

Improving services like libraries. Including facilities for disabled and disadvantaged people.

Get forwards off the beaches except perhaps Parks and Wildlife.

One priority should be a 25M heated pool for Casino. Such a facility would benefit seniors and

some disabled to exercise all year round. The swimming club and general public would also

benefit.

The future is in aviation. There are other options for a nursing home.

To supply recycling bins. Replace parks which have been dismantled. Replace shade trees in

bottlebrush etc on street planting and residents might just see that council does care about

their towns.

Fixing roads, improving appearance of all entrance/exit points - rubbish collected. Ensuring a

standard for all house yards.

 Casino CBD.

Star in water, sewerage in Coraki area.

attractive e.g. trees, more trees in town centre.

 Roads, roads and more roads.

 Recycling would be great.

 1. Recycling and council kerb side pickups. 2. Street and road resurfacing.

Definitely recycling bins for glass, paper and green waste. More infrastructure for drainage

and street etc.

 Roads.

Providing good toilets in town and parks for all citizens and tourists including coach

passengers.

Working together would be a good start. Use your own staff and servicing first before

employing outside contractors.

Councillors are elected to perform. The priority services program should be their responsibility

to present to the public for scrutiny. THE TROUBLE IS - ignoring the public regardless of what

they say.

Encouraging commercial investment in area, improving infrastructure and roads - all roads,

taking pride in town which can start with improvement and maintenance of roads into town

and mowing and maintaining roadsides, first impressions count.

Fix the roads properly for a change, be pro - business and farming outside of Casino, cut red

tape a dictatorial attitude to rate payers and residents.

 Equality for all.

Select different site for Evans Head Nursing Home. Activity centres for children/teenagers.

 Recycle bins for roadside service.

Maintain financial stability for the whole council area and have sustainable development that

and kerbside mowing.

Keeping the town tidy, drainage in town is hopeless, water lies for weeks in drains (health?).

Appears Casino and Evans Head receive high priority.

 Roads.

Health and safety services. Categories of the population.

Sustainable - environment, economically and socially. Development - become a world model

in green technology, grey water, reuse of resources etc.

Stormwater works - relocation of sewerage pumping stations out of flood prone areas.

 Drainage, sewerage, roads, water.

Work to a budget. No over-runs.

businesses. Fast track development/ building approvals and assist developers.

 Roads and communication.

Making our beautiful tourist town safe for all to be in, day or night.

 Water, sewerage, roads, youth programs.

Kerbside recycling should be a priority. Disgraceful 2009 and we do not have this service. A

big proportion of the population indicate many years ago we needed recycling and no action

from council.

Brighten up the CBD. Please fill all the pot holes in Mortimer lane - cars speed past and

splash my driveway

Unity of council members and as a whole the council area to provide the highest of services

so that ratepayers are listened to e.g. fluoridisation.

Aged and youth in the community. CBD upgrade and new community centre.

Environment sustainability roads health sewage water supply reuse of treated effluent.

 Kerbside recycling of green waste.

Road maintenance, better recycling facility, Casino Bypass (another bridge over rive).

Upgrade the urban roads in Casino which are mostly in a poor condition. Install kerb and

gutter in areas where needed.

Roads – gutters. Maintenance to trees on council property.

 To NOT upgrade the CBD.

 Sports entertainment for young people.

Roads maintenance, seniors’ facilities, proper structured activities for children!!

Maintain upkeep of gardens, parks, etc. Coming into Casino from every direction is an

absolute eyesore. Try having a look at e.g. Warwick/Toowoomba and see how to make a

town at least look inviting.

 Health and transport.

Toilets with lids seven days a week, open for public. Woodburn information centre.

To fix the roads and pavements - get rid of high foliage on corners near pedestrian crossings.

Also desperately need something to get young hoods off streets and doing something

constructive.

Council need to do something about the plants on corners near crossings - it is a bit hard to

see people - also try to deter riff raff from defacing the town centre.

At present not enough is being done to preserve our beautiful and important trees. Anyone

can, it seems cut down their trees, no matter even if they are hundreds of years old! We

should have a "The preserve Act".

Recycling kerbside. This is urgent issue/ Since Teelings recycling have closed - too much is

going to landfill.

Ask government (Federal) and ask public to ask and sign document and request for very

much improved funding for our roads, bridges, increased bridges and lighting / signage.

Council I believe is the only one in NSW with no household recycling. Council have no

kerbside collection for larger items - this should be at least 6 monthly - not everyone has

access to a trailer or someone to take away larger items.

More shade trees in CBD - could be in big pots away from kerbside - use of sails would help.

Attention to town roads.

To make our communities user friendly and welcoming, parks, gardens, toilets etc should be

maintained to a high standard to encourage people to meet together.

Firstly the traditional roads, drains and rubbish.

Off street parking, get the buses away from the Post Office. A welcome sign to the Entrance

1/ Infrastructure (water, garbage, sewerage) 2/ rats and parks 3/ seniors and youth.

Better safer roads. Urban drainage and sewers.

Recycle bins and recycle facility for household. Improve drainage of roads and storm-water to

river. Sub-division drainage over riverbank needs improvements.

Road repairs, recycling; increased garbage collection from public areas. During peak tourist

times (e.g. Xmas, Easter etc).

Infrastructure of roads, better sewer services e.g. lack of sewerage system in Broadwater,

more support and infrastructure to sporting clubs.

To upgrade the town service disabilities would be good - e.g. parking (2 in front of the ANZ

bank) where is the rest in the CBD.

Better car park in the CBD, it’s often very hard to find parking down town now, especially in

the shopping area.

Pool, roads, picking up grass after mowing. Rubbish.

Better road maintenance especially on main and unsealed rural roads.

Broadwater sewerage - which we have been waiting for years and now still paying for it and

Keeping costs and changes down to a reasonable amount. Bring in a recycling service.

Roads, beautification of parks and playgrounds to attract tourists, clean up litter.

Fix the Evans Head - Woodburn road properly!! Evans Head needs some form of recycling

program for glass, plastics (in town or through wheelie bins).

Youth and growth of services for the area.

Roads, sewerage, more kerb and gutters away from CBD, more pride in our town. Keeping

our paths clean, retail outlet to be made to clean garbage areas.

Not always leeching off ratepayers for downgraded services.

Making all the roundabouts low level so cars can be seen on the other roads.

Update parks and gardens - beautify Casino.

Aged care hospital health, safety, beautification of town CBD.

Disabled toilet with a change table for severely disabled people who are unable to stand or

change themselves with assistant. A toilet floor is not acceptable in this day and age.

Stop the discussion in council. Work together and work as 1 council.

3 What should be Council’s long term goals?

 The environment's effect on us, and our effect on the environment; climate change;

Upgrade some of Evans Heads Footpaths.

 Reduce rates.

Ongoing upgrades of playgrounds, roads, CBD beautification. Don’t wait till it's broken before

attempting to fix it!

Find someone who can manage finances with ripping off rate payers as currently happens.

 Bring rates down.

 Full employment safe town.

Improve financial viability by making better financial decisions and reducing overheads etc.

Develop Casino into a community where families would like to live work and enjoy. Casino has

good employment opportunities, however, many people only live in Casino because they cannot

afford to live anywhere else. Council's goal should be to reverse this situation!

Attraction of additional growth through business. Greater fiscal control of funds and resources.

Refine the current processors for applications to reach a faster resolution.

To be the most envied council & place to live on the north coast of NSW. Fixing all the broken

things first before introducing new projects. Get back to basics, use some common sense &

regain peoples trust back in council.

 Bringing together the community.

A lot more maintenance for rural and unsealed roads. To seal Rambaldinis Rd would be great as

it is an adjoining road from Naughtons gap and Spring Grove, Caniaba. There are two large

estates at Spring Grove and North Casino/Manifold Rd. A lot of people use this road as a shortcut

instead of driving to Casino. They also use this road to get to Bentley and the Kyogle to Lismore

highway. It is a very handy road. A large school bus also travels this road.

Encourage business to the town, not discourage business with petty stipulations on development

(like ALDI). I've been here since '81. I call Casino "The Town Where Something Nearly

Happened" (but Council stopped it).

Financial stability, dynamic council able to respond to changing needs of ratepayers.

Getting "in touch" with all of its community again and actually listen to what the community is

asking and at least meet them half way.

Consider all within the valley and start to listen.

Long term viability of Casino becoming a town where people love to visit and spend their money.

Council should enhance the unique lifestyle of our coast to hinterland living and avoid it being a

duplication of other areas where for instance, small coastal villages become multi-storeyed

holiday housing developments without any of the original charm and sense of community that

makes it attractive in the first place.

Advancing new business & industry - create more local jobs!

Accountable financial management. Maintain infrastructure. Provide council workers to areas

outside of Casino.

Greatly improve management, efficiency, reduce waste (as in time and money), and get into line

with the rest of the world and willingness to HELP not hinder.

 Sustainable services and programs.

To be a Council of excellence in preference to a white elephant.

FIX THE ROADS and start listening to what people want instead of just pretending to and doing

whatever you want anyway.

Embark on goals that affect all RVC's residences & rate payers.

To make sure there will be enough sewerage, water and facilities for the long term growth of the

area.

To ensure the infrastructure of the region can support the proposed continued growth of the

area. 10 year plan that has sound economic goals that are based on well researched needs of

changing community.

A sustainable development focus in the council area; water, recycling including water, land

development, resource utilisation.

To reseal Maple Lane, and update some of the Footpaths.

Giving Casino more atmosphere - I am tired of people viewing our town as nothing more than a

rural town - surely we can tap into something else to give us a better image! Maybe organic

agriculture & large farmers markets (I know I'd love to get some fresh produce locally), and

street performers/buskers etc always give the town an exciting feel! Let's come up with some

innovative ideas to attract people to our great town!

To streamline cost, improve rural roads and supply more services to rural areas. Stop all the talk

and get things done.

To create tidy towns with excellent long term planning and financial management.

It's effect on climate change; the effect of climate changes on the community; resist population

increase.

Roads, urban, rural sealed and rural unsealed - these are our lifeline and are sometimes death

traps!

water and law and order when why get this right then move forward.

 Recycling.

To raise more revenue from business development, rather than from rate increases.

Star water drainage, roads, sporting fields, and safety in the community in all areas.

 Roads. Improving appearance.

Provision of services must more outside of Casino. RVL rate payers are funding Casino services at

the expense of services for the rest of RVL.

Swimming pools, good roads, nice tidy roadside.

 Reduce income dependence on rates

Use or sell services such as bridge building to generate income. Sound environmental policies

Welfare of all people, not just indigenous cities.

Minimize spending and maximize use of funds.

Employ engineers and staff who can manage our finances without over-running budgets for the

various projects and listen to experienced personnel who can make valuable contributions to

whole council area is involved with the consequence.

To improve the roads from Evans Head to Woodburn - Evans Head to Broadwater.

Maintain health services by keeping Coraki hospital. Improved road between Woodburn and

Lismore.

Sustainable water, garbage disposal, decent roads and upkeep, hospitals and health.

who have competed their education.

Coraki seriously needs some work in the town to clean it up. 1/ roads 2/ mowing 3/ caravan park

needs to clean its act up as well and get rid of the untidy and excessive campers.

Get more efficient, a recent request for minor urgent works passed through (5) council

administrator departments taking (2) weeks before getting a reply. The request would take (2)

outdoor staffs 2 hours to do. But someone has to tell them to do it.

Stop getting 'contractors' to do jobs, which means money going away and rates NOT increase.

A happy, healthy and secure environment for everyone.

Develop sustainable communities - preserve and foster for their uniqueness and diversity. Avoid

letting our region become the same as other places - see difference as being enriching.

Much improvement, financial management and openness.

To ensure that our money stays in the town by supportive local business and contractors. To

stimulate and promote Casino to new industries for our town.

Look forward - plan and get rid of time wasters and those not doing their job.

Making (keeping) Richmond Valley a safe, affordable haven for visitors and residents alike. Safe

roads, venues, clean and respectful.

To help local community with better infrastructure, help the local youth off the streets by

providing activities (maybe with the grant money they get each year for this but it is never seen).

Recycling kerbside. Better resealed roads. Green rubbish - residents should not have to pay for

disposal. Beautification of the town make passers-by traffic want to stop and look around and

spend $ and come back again.

Tidy up street especially Mortimer lane. I have 6 holes full of water in my area, a drive 'slowly'

sign would be good each end to stop speeding traffic in the lane.

Unity. Roads must be a priority. Tourism needs to be considered. New businesses to our area.

All councillors working together for the forward planning of RVC advancement. Getting along

together instead of being separate factions.

Improved effort in provision of all services. Reduction of "perceived" money wasting by RVC.

Support/improve tourist facilities e.g. Silver Sand Caravan Park needs regular security patrols and

improved cleanliness of amenities.

Roads, parks, rural garbage collection. Shouldn't be a charge to use land fill sites to dump

rubbish. We pay rates that should cover this.

Basic services such as roads and footpaths.

Beautification of shire. Tourism. Infrastructure to service families and children, possibly cinema,

bowling, etc... More business and job creation.

Balanced development so as not to detract from existing attractions.

Attend to roads in Richmond terrace Coraki.

To resign and make room for more caring councillors.

To stop increases in rates. To somehow blot out the Casino VS Evans Head mentality of council,

and its issues.

 Employment, affordable low cost housing.

 Promoting of the area.

Clean water system, keeping rates down and giving us toilets in the CBD of Evans 7 days a week

To make sure all roads are kept up to scratch for the amount of traffic flow - just because some

roads are 30km or more from the CBD - doesn't mean there is no traffic on them. Try driving past

cars or trucks (god help us) on them - need recycling bins in town.

To fix rural roads - keep the weeds on the sides of the roads down and the entrances to town

should be kept mowed more regularly to get recycling bins back somewhere near the town centre

for rural residents.

 To give Casino a cinema.

To assist in occupation of empty business premises in town centre, the cost of changing building

to council specification inhibits new business to the town.

Demand from federal levels of government for much needed funding ($ millions) for our

neglected roads, hospitals, lighting, signage, roadworks, infrastructure, safety.

Upkeep what we already have to a good level instead of letting deteriorate - e.g. roads, sewage

etc then build the projects for the future – recycling.

More water storage, river bank beautification, walking paths.

To encourage the community to use the local area and so keep down vandalism and make our

streets safe.

Ensure that all basic services are available.

Encourage industry, we are flood free, Nice parks for the passing traffic, have lovely parks and

vandal proof.

Upgrading Rappville to Wyan Road from Summerland H'way as it has deteriorated badly by heavy

truck use and wet conditions.

Stop selling off our assets for peanuts, we need a jet airport, sorry you gave it away for a hand

full of beans! That’s what happens when the monkeys are let out of their cage.

Infrastructure for our towns. Roads, parks, seniors and youth. Encourage aged care to our areas.

To provide better facilities e.g. toilets in CBD area for older generation and mother's room for

To become financially viable, but with common sense with regards to rating particularly using

valuer generals land pricing as a basis this is a complete distortion of the rating system.

To implement Councils own business enterprises to relieve pressure on rate payers.

Spend more money from rates paid in each town back in that town or farm nearby.

To have more venue for younger teens and children to go to.

Develop the natural beauty of the town especially the river bank as a tourist attraction. Establish

Upgrade our pool make it disable friendly - have a look at Junee's pool facilities.

Listen to other areas besides Casino and improve their streets and general appeal to the public.

For starters forget about Casino beautification and spend money on out living areas of

importance.

To be pro-active and foresee problems before they arise. Not go from one crisis to another.

More parks, gardens and places for leisurely, friendly, family time.

Keeping the area a safe liveable place.

Casino as a business centre. Evans Head - tourist area. Do everything that is needed.

To be helpful and positive to new ideas.

 Fix the problems as listed.

Stay abreast of infrastructure requirement for growth populations.

Putting a bin in town for all of us out of towners that don’t have access to any bin services that

have to bring their rubbish to town instead of driving out to the dump.

CBD beautification, education services, and recycling collection.

To be assisting people not hindering in terms of understanding people's needs.

Increase its rate base through residential growth and ongoing rate increases above rate pegging

limit (with minister's approval) - maintain financial viability, be able to provide sufficient services

to meet the demands of the "average" person.

No just having rate base income, we cannot afford to keep paying council should look to more

business type income.

Improving all services. Learning all the children from the town centre after midnight.

 Encourage businesses to Casino.

Work for the whole Richmond Valley Council.

Plant tropical palms for tropical appearance. Promote beaches etc Evans Head, Byron bay,

Support the Koori community to lessen conflict.

 Attract more medical, Health services.

All above and budget for capital improvements for the entire valley (not just Casino) as the

Look at ways to generate income other than rates services and programmes. Promote tourism.

Provide incentives to attract business to this area.

Provide services and to look at ways to effectively manage environmental issues such as

4 Do you have any other comments?

There are 3 Blocks of Building Blocks in Evans Head that need Cleaning up and not used as

Rubbish Tips, They are the Old School Grounds, Oak Street, Park Street.

Build the swimming pool at Evans Head that has been promised for over 30 years!

Certain councillors need to stop making personal attacks in public forums with a view to patting

themselves on the back.

Bring back ward system for voting.

Some previous financial deals and investment decisions are now costing the council dearly.

Many people see the RVC as having grown considerably in size, operating from a palatial building

with granite on bench tops and staff who only appear to be working on a part-time basis, but

paid well above what they believe they should be paid.

Perhaps it is time that our councillors got over there past differences and began to work together

for a more progressive Richmond Valley. Management need to think outside the square in these

times to progress.

Hope you get a better input from community than the usual 5%.

Would love to see a roundabout at Centre St. and Canterbury St. With St. Marys school, Maccas

and K.F.C it is a very busy and dangerous intersection. Traffic would flow so much easier.

COUNCIL, i.e. its officers do not seem to realise they are there primarily to serve the people of

the community. Their primary function is NOT to act as de facto police. They are employed to

help facilitate the people’s needs, not hinder them. Enough council employees have an attitude

that their job would be easier without customers. Not all but enough to make it the council

culture.

Attract businesses to setup at Casino.

Yes....I get to the end of this survey and you want me to supply me name and contact to show I

am serious about being part of a focus group. If Council is good at inviting the community to

participate I would just contact them. I am interested but will not supply my name.

Not a happy community at all - Check and see how many of the higher Management of Council

actually live in the Valley - communicate and listen instead of just laying down their law.

Please get rid of reverse parking in the CBD, it creates havoc during peak times. Visitors are not

used to it and consequently go elsewhere. Make Casino into the beautiful place we know it can

be!

Council needs to be bold and resist development for developments sake - be prepared to allow

our area to remain a simple lifestyle that attracts people of that mindset and people with different

paradigms gravitate to those areas which suit them e.g. Gold Coast, Byron, Coffs, Port Macquarie

etc.

Council needs to implement new program to encourage GP’s to work in our town.

Have council officers respond to correspondence from residents regarding issues raised.

Should introduce performance pay scales for ALL staff presided over by elected members. Stop

telling lies and be upfront about items of local importance e.g. weirs, public toilets.

I don’t care less what is going on in casino or Evans Head. I don’t live in town and avoid going to

them as much as possible. I pay rates and I get absolutely nothing for it, no garbage service (just

expensive trips to the tip), no water, no sewerage, no nothing, were lucky if the road gets graded

once in a blue moon and even then it’s extremely poorly done. I live here because I can’t afford

elsewhere- constant car repairs see to that.

Woodburn is a flood prone area..yes..but when the water subsides, there should not be great

pools of unhealthy stagnant water right beside drainage pipes that are clearly poorly

constructed..not just me but whole street. Upgrading Casino CBD sounds great...there are other

communities in need of attention..my rate payments have to count.

Ageing population has determined requirements of the region. To induce a younger and more

disposable income generating group, council must look to the future needs of this group.

The questions in this survey are ambiguous. I have answered them looking at council

performance overall, which is poor, though at Evans Head we are very fortunate and have local

representation in Donella Kinnish - she is approachable, easy to access, communicates well and

keeps us informed and operates with a can do, honest attitude. Keep it up Donella!

We need to move with the times. I am married with 2 children and am a rate payer. I grew up

here and would love to raise my children here. However - we need an image makeover, not just

the streets, but we need to move out of the dark ages and tap in to some new ideas!

I would love to see each rate payer receive a coupon to get 1 free plant a year, this would help

with re-forestation and could work as a tax deduction or a community grant from federal

government. Give rural residences four free tickets for the tip per year if not receiving garbage

services.

Evans Head and Casino are not the only town in the Richmond Valley Council electorate and the

smaller towns need decent facilities too.

Employ a more honest and open general manager who is subservient to the councillors.

 1. Are we the only council that does not have kerbside recycling or council large rubbish pick up

days? 2. Can some of the 2.2 million dollars for CBD upgrade be dedicated to a public toilet with

baby change and feeding areas? 3. The only decent park (over south) is not able to be used by

young children in summer with the heat and lack of shade - maybe plant some trees and

"beautify" the grounds. Families attending cricket matches in summer also need to take their

own shade tents as there are grounds with no (or limited) shade. How can you expect

community participation and use of public facilities if basic shade/toilets/water cannot be

provided.

Council needs to stop waiting resources - mainly money, better organise how they undertake

tasks and stop getting a consultant on just about everything. Exercise some commonsense on

some issues and work with the community.

Given that there is no ward structure in this shire, that the area is large and the population

dispersed, it is impossible for residents in any one area to have any knowledge of those in

another. I consider that despite the best efforts of council, that I have effectively no

representative whom I know sufficiently well to represent me on any issue should I need it. I see

no reason why this highly undemocratic situation should continue and I resent it!

Removing wilds birds from town centre (Galahs). These birds leave a mess on the streets around

town. Doesn't look good seeing droppings on the streets. Not a good image for the town. There

also can be a health issue with this problem, birds bring diseases etc.

Remind personnel that they are Public Servants and employed by the people for the people.

We need representation outside of Casino, the Casino based councillors do not give a shit about

anyone outside of Casino.

Some of the councillors should work for the whole council area not just their backyard.

Stop glorified plans for cultural centre and halls when there are two currently in Casino. Only

used by a small minority of ratepayers. Also why does Evans Head need a swimming pool with

river and beaches.

Of the numerous times I've needed council staff help, I have been treated as bothersome.

Customer relations training might be helpful! Proposed council projects are great, I would like to

see some come to fruition!

Why mention only casino CBD upgrade? There are other towns in the shire.

Too many indoor staff don’t want about 16 engineers for the amount of outdoor staff.

Keep parks mowed and litter free and clean. CBD footpaths. Keep entrances to town clean -

mowed etc. Keep round-a-bout shrubs down low and keep them clean and tidy.

Council has recently completed widening and paving main streets, now the footpaths will be

narrowed again and new central median strips are to be returned, why? History is repeating

Removal of staff cars in 2 hour parking zone in front of council chambers in Walker St, Casino.

I think my rates are ridiculous considering I am not on town water or sewerage and do not have

a garbage service and keep my front area mowed.

Council to facilitate cleaning of drains that run under roadways rurally.

Would like to know why we have so many engineers and consultants?

As a rate payer and working on many community project, I have very high praise for Barry and

his staff.

We would also like Casino to have a growers market, and markets to compete with Lismore Car

Boot, markets as this would brine more people to the area.

As above. Remove or lower concrete walls in centre of roundabouts at Johnson and centre street

intersection, as they block the view of traffic from opposite side of intersection.

Mandabah street corner near railway accident waiting to happen very dangerous, great concerns!

Our memorial street moved NOT slashed and trees trimmed at all times NOT just anger day and

you have to ring and get done! Murray Street has large holes both sides and narrow. Therefore

you do have to leave the road to miss traffic!!

Having lived in QLD (Hervey bay and Rockhampton) we are used to being able to access great

family parks and playgrounds that have a variety of activities / equipment that are clean and well-

kept. Most Casino families drive to Lismore to use Heritage Park - what a shame they have to do

that and then spend money in Lismore.

1/ Centre St and Canterbury St corner lights or roundabout. 2/ prime cattle area.

Shrubs can conceal children or dogs at crossings, otherwise well done as the crossing look great.

 Salary rises made public.

Remember Evans head is part of Richmond Valley council not just Casino.

Casino has shortage of good toilet facilities. Poor sign posts for this problem. Main streets must

have better toilets "Barker or Walker St".

Pay attention to what successful councils do. Evans Head now has many walk/cycleways. It's tidy.

Casino is like the poor shoeless cousin.

Question in this form are for Evans Head only. Casino is too far away, don't go there. Last time I

went there damage my car shockers road's bad. Daughter rolled her car going there.

The urban roads and footpaths are appalling particularly the footpath from Queensland road to

We need councillors that are young and not scared to have their say and will not be talked into

decisions to win votes they also need to have an education in local government issues and

policies.

We have put in a R.A.M.S. for improvements of footpath, cycleway, from Blackgully bridge to

Sextonville Road and have not has any response from council. We took this R.A.M.S to council

office personally around 7 weeks ago.

People have perception of rate payer money being spent on too many people doing very little.

Introduce strict laws to make private property owners keep their land tidy especially vacant

blocks in our towns. Create more parking in Evans Head maybe central parking in some street

e.g. Cedar and Cashmore St.

Don't send all town water down one drain to river (open drain) which children can be washed to

river when it is raining.

I am in the process of selling my house and I have a buyer. My buyer solicitor has requested

some important information that only council can provide but guess what they have lost the file.

This is the second time this has happened PATHETIC!

Again harking back to the 'nose in' parking - it must be that all Councillors drive 4 wheel drives.

Replace Richmond Valley council's management workers.

We as a community should have more input on who you select as general manager.

Bring back riding system. Clean up streets and footpaths in Oak St.

Congratulate staff outside and office counter staff on their co-operative and friendly attitude and

prompt service.

Caravan Park at Evans Head needs work on all toilet, and showers leaky water taps, bad taps and

roses on most showers.

Proper banning of cycles, skate boards by adults and over-age children on footpaths in or near

the CBD. Policing of illegal parking in disabled places. Stop employees using brush-cutters around

trees and damaging bark resolution in eventual death of same.

Every public meeting I have been to has had a no confidence motion in this council with one

meeting 300 people in Woodburn carried unanimously and still we have them.

Council made a BIG mistake when it sold part of Casino airport without Public consultation.

Council must show they are a united group and not two groups - one in power and the other in

opposition as it appears now.

The toilet in the South Casino Park is so bad I am sure no one on the council would use them.

They need paining toilet seats and they could be locked at night to keep them tidy.

It seems to me that all areas are not treated equally. A small body of councillors that led by

major seem to try and control council.

Council needs to visit Coraki out, Main Street is ending up in the river and no one seems to care.

I hope this survey hasn't cost us rate payers too much money.

Yes I'm disgusted with the decisive nature of some previous councils who managed to be re-

elected; BEEF WEEK, should have the full support of council in ensuring it brings the maximum

revenue.

We at Evans Head receive the same services as Casino I for one can't see how my rates could go

up $1000 last year for what we get.

I have a scooter, broken bottles are all over the place. I have to get off the tracks to get around.

No nice rubbish at the back of Bio Lo empty drink containers. Trolleys being taken from the

stores, left all over the roads.

Response to taxpayers problems is absent, the someone rule (can't do, won't do, too hard, not

our job, contact someone else if it happens again let us know) R.V.S.E office.

Water rates are higher than land rates. Are any other councils in this position?

We have too many councillors that live in Casino and don't care about the next council area.

Listen to the people. Councils never should have amalgamated. Shopping and parking are good in

Casino. Charlie Cox is a great bloke. Go the Cougars.

Needs to be more open and honest communication with Council community development workers

instead of only working work groups that needs them.

Woodburn road need a track for bikes and walkers from riverside village to town. Very unsafe at

present.

The airport should never have been sold and development of Evans Head airport land should be

abandoned completely.

Dispose of all dead wood employees. Too many staff (don't, want) work. Employ more local

contractors. Looks don't mean much at all, make it work better. Much better.

Council is too top heavy more bosses than outdoor staff. Sack the General Manager.

My main disappointment with the council is their lack of respect of heritage, aged, art deco,

architecturally beautiful homes and buildings which are allowed to be demolished or sold to

acquires who do not respect their cultural and historical value to Casino.

Council should continue to argue for a re-opening of the Casino - Murwullimbah train line.

Council needs to be more united and present a more cohesive front, constant bickering and the

press promotes a feeling that the council is dysfunctional.

Town approach to be attended to regularly - mowing and cleanliness give good and lasting

impressions. Grass medium strip along Johnston Street from Centre Street to Clydesdale Motel as

it is wide enough to do this.

The money spend on this survey could have been utilised to fix some of problems mentioned

above. Our local councillors are out and about enough to know what the Casino resident/rate

payers complain needs doing!

Why can't you walk a dog along the north bank of Evans River? (Tennis courts to Skate Park).

Would like to see Silver sand caravan park upgraded and better facilities hygiene, garden

upgrades, rubbish removed.

Rate payers do not receive value for money. E.g. roads repaired and then need repair again in

short time. Why should rate payers provide vehicles and running costs for staff to travel to - from

work?

Why aren't rates high at Casino??

Council should service all of council area not just 2 towns.

I sincerely hope council takes the advice of the Shire on board. This survey is a fantastic idea but

will only be effective if listened to and suggestion taken on board.

If all the elected representatives showed a genuine willingness to more the whole council area

forward the rest of the exercise would be readily achievable.

There is a general impression that council's 'Community Consultation' attempts are little more

than box-ticking.

I understand the CM has received a pay rise. Can we afford this? This "top-heavy" council should

be foregoing pay rises, as we will be in the current economy climate. Don't forget that the bit

between Casino and Evans Head needs attention too!

Give more land to Coraki, Broadwater. Also more attention no people living out of the town.

Yes. Amalgamation has been a total disaster financially in every way possible.

The way rates are levelled I am discriminated against - $563.87 a quarter including a pensioner

discount is a rip off. I am paying for Casino ratepayer so they can have a discount.

Where I live the road is not sealed on a regular basis men and machinery arrive and spend days

trying to improve the surface. Wouldn't it be cheaper to seal the road?

To stop the water going through our garage when it rains because of the RTA raising the height

of the highway. I had to put in my own box drain in front of our garage door at our expense.

I object to race question, no nursing home near Evans Head. Landing field, there other sites, get

court order lifted from iron gates. I object to housing sub-division in Casino in middle of industrial

area next to NRMA.

We come to Evans head to view the ocean, beaches and rivers. We have no spectacular views

anymore because all we see are trees. It there is a fire along ocean drive at Razor beach lookout

reservoir is in danger of being destroyed, the rate structure for Evans head is wrong since the

Ward system was abolished Evans Head has no proper representation. This mean the council is

'stacked' Casino way - very unfair.

RVE is one of the worst councils in NSW and is incompetent and staffs are 'anti' residents and

community. We pay for the staff salaries but get no respect.

Our sewer system?!!! Our garbage bins are stuffed and we pay a lot for this service.

Keep it rural. Discourage suburban fences mentality within rural landscapes.

Pedestrian crossings - McDonalds to Catholic Church needs to be moved up at least 20 metres.

Pedestrian crossings near roundabouts especially Centre and Barker St 'bad news' some-one will

get killed at this one.

There is a huge waste of paper and cardboard at Broadwater sugar mill - because garbage truck

does not separate it, so mill doesn't recycle it. Can the truck be modified? Or have a recycle

truck?

It is very sad the number of good people who have chosen to leave council employment when

council has failed to support them. I can cite 4 over the past.

Stop fighting amongst yourselves and co-operate more. Get things done, the basics

URGENT a roundabout at the intersection of centre and Canterbury roads (with no jungle in the

middle). URGENT the same at the intersection of centre and Richmond street (with no jungle in

the middle).

Council to be seen doing things.

Introduce the ward system in electing councillors as most councillors live in Casino and don't

know other parts of the council area.

 Most people happy with council.

Maintenance of sealed rural road is almost non - existent! I.e. Rappville rd is very busy, log trucks

to mill, semi-trailers taking sawn timber out including 'B' doubles. The road is narrow and the

shoulders are atrocious, trucks travel fast and do not move over.

CBD needs to grow! More jobs! Improvement program to clean footpaths and shop buildings. Our

roads have been broken up by trucks - keep them out of our town!! And why are we charged for

green waste - double dipping??).

 Better and fairer rates system; cycle way from Woodburn / Evans Head as a tourism activity;

healthy lifestyle; elderly gofers (get them off main road); walking track.

Like in all surveys - what happens next is of critical importance. This is a golden opportunity to

build community engagements. I look forward to being part of this.

Remember when developing roads and traffic bands that wide agricultural machinery uses the

roads. (Have a look outside the mail sorting centre, try and get a header through there).

Severely critical of councils and councillors lacks of concern regarding appearance of

weeds/grasses on traffic islands, roundabouts, bridge and perimeter approaches. Tidy Town?

Laughable.

The attitude of council staff in the financial section needs retraining.

Remember there are areas other than Casino and Evans Heal and the shire also need services.

Staff use of phone for personal calls at work.

Reduce crime and vandalism in CBD.

Giving the community clear understanding of what can be done within obvious constraints of

available funding and why more cannot be done.

Fluoridation should have been decided by referendum - a simple yes or no ballot sheet at last by-

election in March. Decided by the people!

Council should be taking out long-term how interest loans instead of charging ratepayers with

increases like 40% in one year.

Why build another swimming pool when we already have 3 that need maintenance and

improvements as a council we cannot afford new buildings of any kind.

Keep up the good work and continue to keep us informed on any new innovations.

Restore traditional country values and honesty within council.

We have has a broken drain over since wheelie bins came in, storm water goes over our

driveway, we have a sewer pipe next door, which smells, we have had holes in the side of the

road for 40 years.

Don't care much what you do now you have the dark people here.

No iron gates. The mayor’s public comments on iron gates shows little understanding of modern

plan rules.

I am baffled by wrong information on fluoride. The local press has RVC saying that fluoridation

was compulsory and done by directive of NSW Health.

Rate payers should be able to take rubbish to the dump without charge as the rates are high

enough.

I wish council good luck and prosperity to keep up its country spirit and provision of necessary

service.

What the use, you do what you want anyways.

The council treatment of Evans Head memorial airport is a disgrace - hang your heads in shame.

Yes to a nursing home but not on aerodrome. The future is in air travel.

They put the rates up and nothing is done.

I have found that whenever I have contacted council regarding a problem I have received no

feedback and little interest in fixing the problem.

Please make all signs on road and lanes as you can see and put them back when they go

missing.

Get rid of heavy weights and overpaid non-performing staff within council.

Yes, this council has the worst attitude towards dogs and dog ownership. The proposed marine

park off Evans Head is ridiculous and would destroy this town.

We would like to see some serious maintenance of our local TAR road.

1/ lack of public toilets in CBD. 2/ we would like to see some attention paid to our local roads.

I would like to see council and take it upon themselves to look after or at least help fund our

sporting facilities. We may have some of the most talented sports people in our region and many

have to play on terrible sports grounds.

Basically council is caught up in too much bull-shit about community want and not needs. It is

time to get back to basics.

Hang in there you are doing ok job. Do not invest money in overseas accounts.

Red tape is a killer and council has far too much red tape. Work with the community to have less

red tape.

Casino Aerodrome should never have been closed. All those little homes are an eye sore, shame.

The council should put more effort to encourage greater recycling. I do a round trip of over 40km

every 2-3 weeks to recycle glass and paper. There are way more items which could be recycled

and take pressure off landfills.

In these difficult financial times I think the council is doing its best.

Council should seriously consider filling pot holes in rural unsealed roads with road base before

they do maintenance grade which normally only fills then with dirt.

The drainage issue needs to be developed ASAP and kerb, guttering and footpath provided in

long established areas of Casino. It is very difficult to walk for exercise when the ground is so

uneven and water backing up in drains.

The facilities could be used better than some of the ideas you have. We need employment. The

nursing home would be better closer to town - they are too isolated at 95.

WE PAY RATES EVERY ONE HAS COMPLAINED IN MY STREET AND STILL NOTHING - Go

Richmond Valley!

6 years ago our street presented a petition to council for the repair and rectification of the road.

No real work has taken place and no response from the engineer to the petition.

Your example on the 'appearance of Casino CBD' is spot on as town streets and tourist areas are

a disgrace.

RVL needs to be more responsible for its own financial management. Needs to maximize efficient

use of rate money rather than seeking and increase rates. WE are all (or should be) on a tight

budget.

We live on Myell Ck Rd and are really concerned about lack of guideposts - most get broken by

the large trucks that use the road. Also lack of consultation re landfill for people living in close

proximity to the Bare Ridge landfill.

Take care with the selloff of Evan's Head aerodrome land for an old-people's home whilst such a

facility is needed, it is far from the town centre and the town lacks footpaths for electric scooters.

The ocean outfall for sewerage is a backward step. Other options such as artificial wetlands

would be better.

It is pathetic, hopeless even that no recycling is available kerbside or for rural residents councils

should be ashamed. Much smaller and more remote communities can and why can't Casino?

Do something about these kids on bikes on the streets. Don't wait until someone is injured. Very

dangerous.

A heat - exchange solar power plant (or wind farm but less of a tourist draw) ....if council offered

the land for a commercial company to establish this say rate-free.

Less staff in office and more on road works.

Get to halve its present size - reverse amalgamation and stick to basic services - roads - sewer

and rubbish.

Replace general manager and improve DA application time frame. Look at internal senior staffing

levels.

Unsealed roads in rural areas very neglected. Why is it an appropriate question Do I identify as of

aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Descent!!! Vandalism and graffiti is very unappealing to

visitors.

Water costs through meter should be vastly increased and standard cost for infrastructure

reduced accordingly as incentive to reduce water usage. Council to get on with business of

council and stop squabbling over petty matters.

Keep everything as simple as possible.

Maintain the parks we already have including the boat ramp park which has a container for dog

droppings but no toilet or tap water for humans.

You make it different for small businesses to set up. Too set in you ways - no-one is listening.

The "new" footpaths designed to cause problems for the elderly and young alike.

More pride by senior staff in overall council area which presently seems untidy and unkept. Could

this be that some of the senior staff don't live in the council area and therefore don't care? Fuel

costs must be huge as the exodus of many senior staff head east out of the area can be

witnessed.

Rate payers are the employer council offices management and staff are our employees there to

service the employer not tell them what they can or cannot do!

Please consult with churches when making large.

Fail to reply to correspondence. Need to retain weather shed near Evans Head kiosk, but clean it

more regularly.

The memorial Aerodrome should be kept for a viable aerodrome and the nursing home built

where the plan was first proposed. Recycling should be improved. The drug and alcohol problem

needs a solution. Young people's energies need to be usefully employed.

The rating structure on land should be more equitable across the council Evans Head. Land

values are too high. Clear trees and rubbish from Razor back Lookout so at least visitors can see

the scenery.

Issue of building permits totally unsatisfactory. Handling of noise complaints totally inadequate by

the environment officer. Officers inexperienced and favouring some complainants.

Elected councillors should have suitable qualifications before being eligible to stand for council.

Councillors are seen and not heard except before elected. Seldom/never after except the trouble

makers who agree with nothing.

Generally council seems to waste a lot of time on people on manual staff doing nothing and

getting paid.

This council is top heavy with administration staff, it is an absolute drama to get anything done,

no wonder they are having financial problems, requires a shakeup starting from the top.

RVC should service the WHOLE council area, not just Casino Business Centre. I have been told

there is too many staff on council, too many doing one job.

Good luck to the councillors in leaving everyone with their decisions to problems

Council needs to get away from the farce of public consultation such as this survey. Just so as

council hierarchy can tick the box on community consultation. Community committees should not

be stacked with council cronies.

Start worrying about Casino not all Evans Head.

The performance and focus of councils building and sewerage inspectors needs to be urgently

scrutinised to refocus.

Instead of adopting a motion - get out and speak to staff and public first.

Hopefully our reasonably new council members will remember the reasons they put forward for

wanting to be councillors and keeping management accountable.

With a lot of the councillors it has been a status statement to be elected. We need good

representative and movers and shakers.

Council does nothing for me to favour Casino. Some workers are quite arrogant.

It is time for a new General Manager.

Flood damage on Lagoon road Coraki has still not been fixed after the Jan 2008 floods. Have

contacted council many times. Council says it's fixing next month but it doesn't happen.

Library services are great. Shame about the grounds at library - gardens are a disgrace especially

now new gardens are at Aldi.

The website is hard to access, with minimal, no helpful information.

Councillors need to show they are working for everyone in the Community NOT for their own

petty factionalism e.g. at the Evans Head VS Casino issue. The feeling in many rural areas that

councillors are focussed on ""town"" issued not rural roads and services, etc...

PLEASE get the town looking like we have a council that cares and is capable of having the best

town in the valley. Tidy up the roundabouts.

Provide more public transport e.g. links to Lismore, Evans head, Ballina, etc...

Litter specifically fast food franchises and alcohol cans/ bottles are a real problem. These

businesses should be compelled to clean up the streets within a certain distance (say 500 meters)

of their premises. McDonalds is the biggest offender.

Spoke to council numerous times about trees in front of house concerned it is not safe could fall

on house. Obstructing vision at intersection.

Am I aboriginal? What difference would that make? Silly question!!! This is a loader survey - it

asks the wrong questions!

Police the town late at night. Bikes off footpaths - comment sense things! Maintain essential

services. Tidy town up "Round up" around a telegraph pole - leave - Bloody Lovely!!

I would like to see the basketball hoop replaced at Evans Head on the corner of the industrial

estate. It has been broken again for a year and the holidays are here again.

I think the councillors should drive on the rural roads and not just the ones close to town - the

ones further out and see what we have to put up with they are goat tracks in places - also the

entrances to town are messy - the grass and weeds should be mowed regularly.

Please take a drive on the rural roads on the outskirts of the council area. They are dreadful - the

cultural centre should be built behind the existing car park to deter cars being broken into

because they will hide behind the proposed centre.

To have a recycling of paper, glass and tins etc, we don't even have any bins like many councils

provided to each home. Recycling is so important and can help us and in many ways!

I would like to see council allocate funds yearly to have the paved walkways in the main street

pressure cleaned to remove build up of grime.

Coming from another state of Australia, I have found that our roads in RVC area with very high

number of vehicles (including b_doubles, semis and large trucks and dogs cannot use these roads

without a huge input from federal upgrades).

Comments appear to be that staff is top heavy with chiefs, however I do believe that salaries

must remain attractive otherwise we end up with a situation similar to the rural doctor crisis - we

need qualified staff.

I was disappointed in how unhelpful the system was to cast a pre-poll. Queuing 3 times to vote

was unnecessary. For the first time in over 40 years I did not manage to vote as I have a time

constraint on waiting. Not good.

I am happy to be living in Casino and we should do all we can to encourage people to settle here.

Over its last 3 years I have met many of the people at "The Village", they have a lot of talent to

offer and they want to be part of the town.

Dangerous dead trees along narrow section from Summerland Way to Rappville.

Leave the CBD alone. No street furniture, no slippery tiles (footpath) no trees in the middle of our

main street.

Council should keep abreast of employed staff permanent and casual in all their areas.

 Better financial management.

Overall they do a fairly good job.

Council should work closely with police with relation to underage drinking, damage to council and

private property, by young people roaming the town - often until 4 am. Drunk and offensive.

Could liquor outlets be required to supply can alcohol and not bottles after 10om, smashed

bottles all over town area.

Council need to listen more carefully to their community when community input is requested, not

ignore community and go their own way, as in the past.

When you take out recycling to the tip some form of recording that you are doing recycling and

give maybe a couple of free trips to the tip.

Council should concentrate on all areas of shire instead of pouring money into CBD area, only we

all pay rates and should all see improvements across the whole shire.

 Where do I start.

Can you please look into some form of dog faeces disposal bins. I'm a regular walker and at the

The council has laws - why not enforce them. They need more police, rangers, inspectors etc.

Many other towns have a recycling program why don't we? Our rates formula continues to

disadvantage people in Evans Head.

I have found council very slow to fix it. I have had a problem with sewage back up on 2 times in

last 2 1/2 years. Back up in since and toilet unusable.

Section 1 Q9 appearance of Casino CBD. Council must realize that this is more than one Town

what about their appearance.

The council is the ratepayers employee and as such must person or be replaced as in any other

business. There are too many bludgers using their positions to skive off or as stepping stones to

other jobs, more local spirited employees!!

Dump fees. We should have 2 clean up per year. As Sydney council do!! To pay to take your

waste to tip and be treated rudely by your workers.

Culture centre should be built behind the care park thus avoiding spending wasting money ripping

up existing car park.

Beef week is a must! Take the "bull by the horns" and promote Casino and the Richmond Valley

to the rest of Oz!

The Richmond Valley Council manager strategic planning needs to be made aware of instance

where people (long term) of the community not receiving sufficient advice or support regarding

environmental planning requirement. This is relevant to people who are seeking council approval

to build their home on rural property, but now after more than 7 months this request is still not

being given adequate attention.

Council should use a local survey company instead of going interstate.

Reseal Canterbury St as it is the street leading to the Railway station and badly needs repairs.

Do a better job for all rate payers equally.

Roundabouts:- danger ones:- walker street and Canterbury St. Blind - Barker St and centre street

blind - Centre St and Johnson street 1/2 blind.

I've been really impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness at Council headquarters - a big

improvement on Gosford!!!! Great staff. Give them a gold star please.

Gov electoral division state and local, rep councillors - evenly distributed in councillor numbers in

voting (e.g. Casino 4, Coraki 1, Evans 3, and Broadwater 1).

Overall I think council are doing a reasonable job in a difficult area they operate in. The area is

progressing, new developments continue and the Richmond Valley has a lot to offer.

Council hierarchy are under the impression that people in the community place the same

importance on them as they do on themselves. Nothing could be further from the truth. Council

has alienated the community and it will be to their detriment.

We have a great place here on the North Coast. We have clean and tidy towns. We need to

develop our parks and recreational areas. I am a wife and mother of a 4 year old son. Our family

puts Sunday aside as our family day and on Sundays we like to spend the whole day together

having fun. Quite often our family will jump in the car and go out for the day. We normally head

north and more times than not we end up at the Salt Village at Kingscliff. We have a huge park

and there is a café/restaurant/coffee shop right nearby (about 100 metres walk). We can spend

all day here. For us this is 1¼ hour drive – too easy to do. We have a beautiful spot in Evans

Head, but we need to stay at home on their days off instead of heading north. Like I said it is

only 1¼ hours drive for us so we are up at Kingscliff in no time. I take our son to the park in

Casino occasionally. He loves to ride his bike and scooter around the tracks and play. But we do

not go near the parks in Summer it’s just too hot due to the fact that there is no cover over the

equipment. And as for the toilets at the park we just do not use them. Would a pay toilet be an

option????? I would definitely pay to use a clean toilet at the park. Thanks very much.

A Coraki resident of No92 Queen Elizabeth Drive; asked if council could place unwanted fill on his

property to help solve a surface water problem. Answers “No you will flood your neighbours”

WRONG!!! The adjoining block to the rear has been raised in excess of one meter and does not

have suitable run off drains and retainer walls as normally required by council. In addition the

adjoining blocks either side are higher by 500mm and 750mm. The natural flow of ground water

is west and is concentrated on Mr. Ellers property which becomes a swamp from seepage as well

days after rain has ceased. Case No.2: Mr. John Crawford’s property on the lower end of Grenfell

St.; John wanted to form a “paddy bun” around the lower end of his property, answer “No you’ll

flood your neighbours!” Has anyone at Council any positive suggestions to solve these problems.

Case No.3: No this is too big, modern engineering techniques aside, Richmond terrace continually

subsides, I do not believe that council cannot excavate down to the underground stream and pipe

the flow of the river. Create real employment, for those on the dole there is so much that can be

done for our town of Coraki. Yes I’m concerned.

Rappville road numerous dangerous trees, they have been reported and will fall and need

attention, the limbs are hanging over the road. We would like the council to keep in contact out

here as we do not get a paper, in some way either phone or letter and have a meeting now and

again (last meeting they forgot to let us know it wasn’t on and 10 people turned up, they weren’t

impressed).

You may also include the unsatisfactory residents. Phone and mail contact with their area

councillors they need an office whereby one may have a face to face meeting, maybe 1 day a

month by appointment. Also many aldermen don’t get informed by the GM and other persons

that handle impatient letters of complaint that are asked to be tabled and don’t see the light of

day at Council: what do we have aldermen for. I have experienced this recently. Aldermen are

not being informed on many matters by GMs. PS. If you need any clarification or facts you may

ring me on 02 6682 2618. Ron.
