TMX gets provincial approval The BC govt approved the Kinder Morgan TransMountain pipeline expan- sion this week, after the company met the govt’s 5 conditions. The project repre- sents thousands of jobs, more than $19 billion in potential economic impact and comes with a deal by Kinder Morgan to hire BC workers where possible. K-M has said that the pipeline expan- sion — which will likely increase in cost from the projected $6.8-billion — would need the approval of its board of direc- tors in Houston, Texas. And it also said it is looking for a partner in the project. Opinion Good news & sunshine I know, it sounds Pollyanna-ish… But what better way to start a fresh, new year than choosing to look on the bright side? The bright side of this Yukon-frigid weather is that brilliant sunshine on fresh fluffy snow sparkles with millions of tiny crystals. The bright side of venturing fur- ther into a colder-than-usual January is that the days are progressively getting longer —and noticeably, at this point! The bright side of this old-timer type winter is that water tables will be more like normal with less likelyhood of drought; pests more likely to be killed off. So… may as well carry the sentiment on to more vexing issues: The bright side of higher property as- sessments is that they should fetch more when time comes to sell. The bright side of being blacklisted from local RCMP press releases (no doubt from publishing the NV Fish & Game’s side of the story about Corbett Lake and their feeling that the RCMP are taking sides) is that there’s more room to highlight community events & human interest stories, less opportunity to fill columns & columns with crimes & drugs — though that can certainly be an easy way to fill an issue! But it also colours one’s views if one dwells on it too much. The bright side of the American election is that we need not worry while there is nothing we can do, but keep abreast — as if it is a favourite tv series — and get in- volved when there is something we can do. The bright side of a New Year is that we can leave the past (year) in the past, and face the coming one with optimism, dealing with issues as they arise with calm and thoughful consideration. We l l , at least give that a try! —KL Family Literacy Week January 23-27, 2017 Literacy Merritt & Nicola Valley Soci- ety presents a week of activities. The bright side of this Yukon-frigidweather is that brilliant sunshine on freshfluffy snow sparkles with millions of tinycrystals. The bright side of venturing fur-ther into a colder-than-usual January isthat the days are progressively gettinglonger —and noticeably, at this point!

The bright side of this old-timer typewinter is that water tables will be morelike normal with less likelyhood ofdrought; pests more likely to be killed off.

So… may as well carry the sentimenton to more vexing issues:

The bright side of higher property as-sessments is that they should fetch morewhen time comes to sell.

The bright side of being blacklistedfrom local RCMP press releases (nodoubt from publishing the NV Fish &Game’s side of the story about CorbettLake and their feeling that the RCMP aretaking sides) is that there’s more room tohighlight community events & humaninterest stories, less opportunity to fillcolumns & columns with crimes & drugs— though that can certainly be an easyway to fill an issue!
