Ian found his second vocation fromthe inside out, reporting on sports events— in the schools & in the community —while teaching, coaching or reffing. Thenover the past 8 & a half years, he seemedto be everywhere that anyone was doinganything! In that time, he has no doubtknown everyone doing sports in this val-ley, and their parents, their siblings &probably their kids, too! Generations!

And on top of all that, his coverage ofthe Merritt Centennials has been monu-mental… If the measure is thousands ofsplit-second action shots all sorted & filed& compiled by player name, number &game date — for the past MANY years —then Ian wins the prize! So happy retire-ment, Ian! Well-deserved!

If the electorate wish to oppose theborrowing of $2,209,000 they must sign aresponse form at City Hall by 4:30pm,January 19, 2018. One can download aform, bring it in, or submit using a com-plicated procedure by email.

Major improvements started yester-day for the Merritt Transit System.

The new On-Request Service will pro-vide curb-to-curb service during four 30-minute trip windows each weekday.People wishing to use this service willneed to call the Merritt Transit office at250-378-4080 at least 24 hrs in advance toset up their pick-up time. Service will beavailable on a first-come, first-serve basis.This is not handyDART service

There will also be 4 additional newweekday trips to route 1 North End, andfrequency improvements on route 4Nicola. And operating hours will be ex-panded into the evening on weekdays, aswell as service on Sundays.

And to make that all possible, a thirdARBOC (with low floor & kneeling capa-bility) bus will be added to the fleet. Thenew bus is 1 of 11 that have been arrivingin 5 communities across the province.
