Ian Webster wraps it up The Nicola Valley has lost perhaps its MOST devoted EVER chronicler of sport- ing activities, with the publication of last week’s Herald. Ian Webster announced his retirement from the Herald’s sports section, and that was it, it was over. Ian found his second vocation from the inside out, reporting on sports events — in the schools & in the community — while teaching, coaching or reffing. Then over the past 8 & a half years, he seemed to be everywhere that anyone was doing anything! In that time, he has no doubt known everyone doing sports in this val- ley, and their parents, their siblings & probably their kids, too! Generations! And on top of all that, his coverage of the Merritt Centennials has been monu- mental… If the measure is thousands of split-second action shots all sorted & filed & compiled by player name, number & game date — for the past MANY years — then Ian wins the prize! So happy retire- ment, Ian! Well-deserved!
