Director, Center for Urban Research and Learning (CURL), 1996-2016

CURL is a non-traditional, innovative, inter-disciplinary research center that engages in university-

community collaborative research where community partners are involved in all stages of the research process

from conceptualization and research design to analysis and writing final reports. I was involved in creating

the center. CURL has completed more than 400 projects with over 200 community partners. CURL

typically has a six-plus-member staff, involves multiple faculty and more than 50 graduate and undergraduate

fellows annually. In addition to regular grant support, CURL has an $8 million endowment to support core

Through work as Director of the Loyola University Chicago Center for Urban Research and Learning (CURL),

from 1996 to 2016, and Director of the Policy Research Action Group, from 1989 to 2006, I have been involved
