1997–Present – In addition to these, I have worked on innumerable other small surveys, testing, and full-scale mitigation projects from 1972 to the present, mainly in Missouri, Illinois, and Arkansas. Many are too small for listing above and, for the sake of brevity, all field activities undertaken since 1996 are not listed. Although unlisted past 1996, my fieldwork activities have continued, including the direction of the Big Eddy Project for more than a decade. These have entailed both paid staff and voluntary assistance. I continue to be actively involved in field projects of all sizes. In addition to the

many archaeological projects, I have assisted and supervised the physical and documentary reconstruction of three log cabins dating between 1800 and 1840. I also have assisted on architectural history surveys, and I’ve conducted historical research on General Land Office, deed, cemetery, marriage, and tax records, among others. I am a common peer reviewer of articles submitted for publication in journals and I am currently editor of The Missouri Archaeologist and the Missouri Archaeological Society Quarterly, which entails soliciting and editing manuscripts, preparation of forewords and columns, and many other activities.

C. Grants and Contracts

Within the past 32 years, I have served as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on more than 700 cultural resource management contracts amounting to over $9,000,000. I’ve also been the recipient of grants from the National Geographic Society, the Allen P. and Josephine B. Green Foundation, the National Park Service, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the Shirley and Tom Townsend Family, the Archaeology Committee of the Ministry of Culture of Trinidad & Tobago, the Archaeology Subcommittee of the National Trust of the Ministry of National Diversity and Social Integration of Trinidad & Tobago, and the U.S. Embassy. I’ve collaborated on research for several National Science Foundation (NSF) grants and I’ve reviewed numerous NSF proposals during the past 30 years, including submittals by senior researchers as well as PhD students seeking dissertation improvement awards.
