ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES:
Teaching and Learning practice - current development of media
happenings to update knowledge and use of modern high tech equipments for easy learning of students.
Encourage the students to regular reading of books, journals,
newspapers, magazines etc., to update their knowledge.
Under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), Students‘ performance is evaluated continuous assessment method.
Took initiative to revamp the existing syllabus to meet the needs of the media industry. New attractive components were introduced to suit for
rural students to get placement in local, regional and national level media.
Took initiative to introduce new Master level courses.
Introduced students practice lab journal ‗Kannadi (Mirror) – a bilingual fortnightly for M.A Journalism and Mass Communication students to
quench the journalistic thrust and act as Faculty Advisor for the lab journal.
Introduced ‗Video Magazine’ for M.Sc., Visual Communication and Electronic Media students to train and excel the students in video (short
films, documentaries) and television production.
Introduced two elective courses viz., Tamil Journalism and communication skills for the benefit of inter-intra Department
students.
I motivated the students to start own communication platform called Mounam (silence) to develop their Communication skills.
Took initiative to ink MoU between Department of Journalism and Mass
Communication, Periyar University and Salem District Press Club for
teaching and learning of professionalism and media ethics for the benefit of the students.
Developed the Department as a UGC-SAP within the first five year period.

NSS, NCC, YRC, etc
1. Was Serving as University NSS co-ordinator i/c from Aug. 2012to Jan 2017.
2. I am a nodal officer for 158 NSS units and 15 self-supportive NSS Units
which are functioning in affiliated colleges.
3. In 2012, 158 NSS units were functioning in 56 colleges. These units were
reallocated to another 26 new colleges for the benefit of the students.
4. Took initiative and got15 self-supportive NSS units to quench the thirst of service minded students.
5. Motivated the NSS volunteers to take part in various national events,
camps, personality and training programmes.
6. Every year students are participating in Republic day parade both at national level and Tamilnadu state level.
7. 2 National Awards: During my tenure (2012-2013 and 2014-2015) two
students were awarded highly prestigious Indira Gandhi National award for NSS volunteers.
8. Tamil Nadu State NSS awards: Two NSS programme officers and seven NSS volunteers were awarded during my tenure.
9. 2 National Integration Camp (NIC) conducted: First time in the
history of Periyar University NSS-NYK, Salem have jointly organised National Integration Camp in January 2014 at University campus. About
40 students participated from the Periyar University and affiliated colleges Second NIC conducted jointly by NYK Erode – NSS organised in Royal
college, Mettur from Feb.24-28, 2015.
10. NSS cell digitalized. Database created bout NSS programme officers list, Volunteers, details of NSS unit colleges etc., for easy and immediate
communication.
11. During my tenure, I visited more than 500 NSS special camps and NSS
programmes and motivated about 5,000 students.
12. Organised running, walking, fitness programme for the NSS volunteers during the motivational camp to take part in national events in 2014
13. March past training was given to NSS volunteers with the help of NSS and
Army officials.

16. NSS play vital role in recent flood affected areas of Tamilnadu in last
December 2015. NSS volunteers visited flood affected areas Cuddalore and Chennai and distributed relief materials. Periyar University has sent
Rs.10 lakh worth of materials to flood affected areas.

7. Two National Integration Camp (NIC) conducted in the history of Periyar University NSS-NYK, Salem have jointly organised National Integration
Camp in January 2014 at University campus. About 40 students participated from the Periyar University and affiliated colleges .Second NIC conducted jointly
by NYK Erode – NSS organised in Royal college, Mettur from Feb.24-28, 2015.
8. In 2014, International Youth day celebrated with the theme of YOUTH AND MENTAL HEALTH under the slogan ‗Mental Health Matters‘. Under which the
theme was taking up the as ―Jawaa hai Zindagi – Shaping a better future‖The theme is designed also for all the conducting competitions such as 1.

V lab and smart class rooms and ‗Digital Archive/Digital Media
Studio’ to document the rare historical pictures, pamphlets, books,
maps, manuscripts, ephemera and digitized books, Journals and
newspapers for research, study and discovery.
To setting up of ‗Centre for Media Studies Training and
Research (CMS-T&R)’ to make the dept as nodal centre for Regional
language (Tamil) Journalism.
