Fellowship Track Training:

The American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Medicine allows for allied diplomats to formulate a concentrated training program to credential and sit for the ACVECC board exam and certification. I was program mentor for and supervised Drs. Eileen Sullivan and Diana Hassel, ACVS equine surgeons at CSU who are now also ACVECC diplomats.

Alternate Track Resident Training:

Until 2007, the ACVECC allowed distance training of diplomats. Due to the paucity of training programs and ACVECC diplomates, individuals were allowed to train with other allied specialists (diplomats of ACVIM, ACVA, or ACVS) and spend supervised time with an ACVECC diplomate. Under this program I supervised Dr. Adam Reiss who worked 60 miles away at the Wheatridge Animal Hospital. Dr. Reese successfully completed his program and passed his ACVECC certifying exam in 2002.

In 2002 I became the primary ACVECC mentor for a pair of veterinary residents from Murdoch University in Western Australia. Their program had been established and approved but then their mentor had left the country. Negotiating with the Chair of the ACVECC residency training committee we arranged for them to spend time at CSU and Auburn University. Additionally I was able to visit Perth and Murdoch University three times over the course of their training. One of these residents, Dr. Katrin Swindell, successfully credentialed and passed the certifying examination and is now on faculty at Murdoch University.
