Human Resources University of the Free State Bloemfontein 2 November 2012 Attention: Ms M Ratsoane Dear Ms Ratsoane Application: Vice-Rector: Research (Reference: S1210-117): Letter of Intent I hereby apply for the position of Vice-Rector: Research, as advertised on the UFS Website. I am, will be, and was always, passionate about Chemistry and all aspects of research associated therewith. The outcomes of my passion are displayed by my research track record and outputs which have been published over the past almost 30 years. During this period I have grown as researcher, person, and in particular as research leader and manager of my discipline. In addition, I have been exposed to different other disciplines and have come to learn the importance of multi-disciplinary thinking and methodology in a successful Research Group, Department, Faculty and University context. The fact that I have been able to manage different sizes of research entities, sometimes under difficult and challenging conditions, and still make a success thereof as manifested in my CV as attached to this letter, is proof that I have been successful. I am of the opinion that I meet all requirements for this position, based on my proven experience, and I am confident that I shall make a success of it to the benefit of the University of the Free State. I commit myself to honour my discipline, and not only Natural Science, but also all scientific research as currently practised, and to be expanded significantly in future, of the University of the Free State on its road to become a truly research driven functionality. I am convinced that I can make a difference in this position if given the opportunity. All other documents as required are attached to this letter. I look forward to serving the UFS in this regard, and to any instructions of how to proceed should I be considered for further evaluation. Yours Sincerely,
