About Mrs. Dye
Building Routines• School starts at 9:10. The tardy bell rings at 9:15. If
students arrive after that bell, they will need to go to the office for a pass.
• In the morning (and after recesses), we line up downstairs under the covered area outside of the dining commons.
• Afterschool, teachers will continue to walk students to designated pick-up areas.
• School ends at 3:45 on M, T, Th, F• Early release at 2:05 on W
*If your child will be absent, please contact the Absentee Alert at: (206) 275-5879.
Home-School Connection:
To build a home-school connection, you could have a discussion with your child about how your home can be safe, respectful, and responsible.
Why a schoolwide PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports)?• Creates a positive school culture • Predictable- everyone uses common
language, and understands expectations• Regularly recognize positive behavior-
Soaring Owls• Creates a safe environment • Consistency amongst adults and students in
expected behaviors • Inclusive of social emotional learning
components
At Northwood we will
Be the Three:• Be safe• Be respectful• Be responsible
… to grow our hearts and minds!
Soaring Owl• Adults write “Soaring
Owl” cards for students
• Tickets turned into the office
• Teachers will select two students who received Soaring Owl tickets that month to be invited to the Owls’ Nest Lunch
• Random Soaring Owl ticket recipients are acknowledged on Mondays over the announcements
Social-Emotional Learning at Northwood: • Second Step- weekly lessons where students learn
skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving skills
• Mindfulness- paying attention to what is happening in the present moment
• Character Traits- each month at Northwood, we will focus on learning about a positive character trait. Character traits are aspects of a person’s behavior and a person’s attitude that makes up their personality. An assembly each month will educate students about the character trait. In class students will listen to podcasts and participate in other activities to learn more in depth about the character trait.
• Kelso’s Choices- teaches students the difference between a big problem and a little problem. Once kids know that difference, Kelso’s Choice offers them a variety of tools to solve small problems on their own.
