LITERACY
Balanced Approach to Literacy
The balanced literacy approach includes several components of reading. These components include:* word study* interactive read alouds* independent reading (based on independent reading levels)* book clubs* skills and strategies* conferencing
It is our goal to provide our students withrich literature that will create a passion forreading and writing.
WRITING
Clarification
Persuasive
Argumentative Research projects
Poetry
Writing is across the curriculum: science, social studies and math.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Social Studies is integrated with literacy this year. We use a social studies book entitled Social Studies Alive!
We will be covering from pre-Columbian times to the American Civil war.
ScienceScience is an EOG for fifth grade.
Students receive science instruction five times a week.
We are integrating science informational texts into our literacy block.
