Curriculum Innovation: The rationale
“Traditionally academics view the world through the eyepiece of a single discipline. But the real world is not like that, it is by its very nature interdisciplinary and can only be deeply understood when viewed from multiple perspectives. ” Mark Cranshaw, Understanding Modern China
University policy is now directing us towards multidisciplinary research that:
1) feeds directly into teaching and 2) encourages student participation at all levels
Digital Literacy• “Digital literacy is the ability to locate, organise, understand,
evaluate, and analyse information using digital technology. It involves a working knowledge of current tools and an understanding of how they can be used”

“The new media environment can be disruptive to our current teaching methods and philosophies. As we increasingly move toward an environment of instant and infinite information, it becomes less important for students to know, memorize, or recall information and more important for them to be able to find, sort, analyze, share, discuss, critique, and create information and knowledge. They need to move from being simply knowledgeable to being knowledge-able.”

My opinions have often been changed by what other people have put forward on the discussion board
One of the big benefits of studying online is the flexibility to fit my academic life around my professional life which has been really useful
No idea is lost - we can continue to share information and ideas online beyond the duration of a specific seminar

media content: Digital Economy Blog or to aggregate a series of blogs as per Multidisciplinary Research

• You can also embed other social media within individual blog posts• Video is increasingly important, especially authentic user generated
content• Provide sharing buttons • These activities provide a regular supply of “googlejuice” to the blog

interviewing skills and video editing• Helped out in a big way at Digital Media Europe • Masterminded student contribution to
Digital Literacies Conference • Provided student perspective on our research into
online learning MOOCs• Visited Italy to carry out MOOC filming in Portus• Now in Madrid working for Telefonica Digital
