Pierre-Alexandre has in 2006 graduated at the Versailles School of landscape architecture and has worked at Karres en Brands Landschapsarchitecten in Hilversum, Netherlands and at Latitude Nord paysagistes, Paris, France. He has been working on several projects with scales running from construction detailing to urban design and masterplanning. Since 2007 he joined the OKRA office and is involved in several successful prize awarding projects, such as: Public space of quartier de Kirchberg-Gruenewald (Luxemburg), Sichuan – Sichuan earthquake memorial (China), Vlissingen - Bellamypark, a park and square along the coast of Vlissingen, a harbor town in the Netherlands and Rotterdam - Westerkade, a way along the river Maas in Rotterdam. Currently he is working on the urban regeneration of the city center in Villeneuve d’Ascq (France).Pierre generates conceptual and constructive design ideas and has a structuring and creative role within the office.

From the vision of the ‘Connected City’ that OKRA made for the center of Rotterdam arose several challenging projects for refurnishing public space. The quays in Rotterdam are the perfect place where the relati-onship between the centre and the river Maas can be experienced. The Westerkade undergoes a metamorphosis from informal parking area to an attractive and lively green spot along the water of the river.

Role: Pierre-Alexandre’s has been involved from vision stage to detailled design stage providing conceptual ideas, strategical and design input.

ROTTERDAM – WESTERKADE EN PARKKADE (NL)

Client: Onassis Foundation.Year: 2012 - 2015

The city centre of Athens will be transformed into a green network, and Panepistimiou will be the central green spine, providing shade and shelter. The regeneration of the city centre will strongly contribute to the change of Athens. It will improve the environment of the city plus activating the area economically.

Client: City of Dax. Year: design 2011 - construction works 2012-2015

The Fontaine Chaude square marks the beginning of a process of recon-quest of the historic center of the city. This larger process aimed at resto-ring a quality of life for the center of the old spa. The main objectives are to create inviting places for pedestrians by reducing the impact of cars; strengthening of urban life and economic dynamics of the center. Revea-ling the thermal identity and strengthen the heritage the green character of the city.

Client: Fonds d’urbanisation et d’aménagement du Plateau de Kirchberg. Year: design 2008, execution 1e phase 2010, next phases 2012-2014For the project, OKRA developed the concept of the fragmented orchard spreading across a connecting the entire network of squares and gardens.

ne’ in the meander in the river, but also cut off of the city by a boulevard with heavy traffic and rail infrastructure.

In the approach of OKRA is a series of quays proposed connected to the network of the city and the geography of the landscape.

2010 SAINT-MICHEL SQUARE - BORDEAUX (FR). The Saint-Michel Square is situated in the old centre of Bordeaux. The project OKRA designed was enhancing the two ‘faces’ of the place,

the intimate and lively daily market, and the monumental caracter of the old Cathedral, one of the main landmarks of the city.

2010 Park of the floating gardens, Xiang’he Beijing (CN) park design, master-plan

2009-2012 CUTTY SARK GARDENS - GREENWICH (UK). The ‘Cutty Sark Gardens’ is a square along the River Thames. The project consists in the redeve-lopment of the square and the waterfront of Greenwich together with the restauration of the old “Cutty Sark” ship.

2009-2012 Korenmarkt Mechelen, design public space (BE) -2009 MOLENWATERPARK - MIDDELBURG (NL). Through an interactive process with inhabitants, a new plan for the park

is realized. The new municipal Theater will takes place in the park thus creating a vibrant landscape in relation to the city centre

2008 ROTTERDAM – WESTERKADE EN PARKKADE (NL) Waterfront public space project and realization

2008 Lunettenpark Zutphen (NL), plan public space2008 BELLAMYPARK - VLISSINGEN (NL). Park and square along the coast of

Vlissingen. In the heart of the old town of Vlissingen the project redeve-lops the central square in the city. The design is an interpretation of the former harbor.

2008 PLACE DE LA RESISTANCE - ESCH SUR ALZETTE (LU). The Brill-quarters in Esch sur Alzette gets a new identity. Esch sur Alzette is unique because of its multicultural atmosphere, created in the 20th century by the steel industry.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

In the Netherlands the health & safety responsibility lies with external specialist companies for the full duration of the project. OKRA has worked closely with specialist health & safety companies such as ArboDuo, Maetis and MKB and Tom Wierts is knowledgeable in the design risk principles of health & safety. During the construction phase of the project the main contractor is responsible for the health & safety of the works and site until completion of the works. OKRA has a proven track record of creating and realising high quality safe designs as can be seen from the extensive list of project in the Netherlands and internationally.
