Meadows School works closely with The Agricultural and Rural Centre, Links 4 Life, SMS and ACE training to provide you with an exciting hand on curriculum that is different from most schools that you have attended before!

Meadows School is committed bringing learning to life by providing you with:

this booklet, so that you can choose your subjects that you would like to learn about. the 25 hours of education that you are entitled too! a careers programme, that will explore your future and allow you to have taster work experience sessions in

your chosen field. opportunities that enable you to gain qualifications for your future. an environment that keeps you safe in our changing world. a therapy team that will listen and support you through the journey help you to learn and make rapid progress in your learning journey a spiritual, moral, social, and cultural education, that will allow you to make good relationships with others.

The ARC enable students to work with a range of Agricultural and Horticultural methods as a means of re-engaging students back into mainstream education or a provision that is suitable for the you. We will:

provide you with good or outstanding teaching that will help you to learn in a relaxed environment bring learning to life by allowing you to learn through exciting subjects such as Enterprise (making money!)

Design Technology (making objects such as tables, DVD racks etc.) and Science through hands on experiences by looking at the animals

teach you Maths and English through others subjects bringing in real life situations group you with other young people, so you can develop positive relationships with others help you in each lesson to reflect on how much learning you have made and how we can make it even

General Science

There’s no better way to learn about science than through purposeful practical activities as part of day to day teaching and learning. That’s why at The Agricultural and Rural Centre, science is brought to life. Students will cover some areas of: Biology, Chemistry and Physics with plenty of practical experiments and activities to support your learning.

Why is this course good?

Science is the best way to learn about the world around us. Through science we gain a better understanding of the universe. We also gain new and beneficial technologies and medicines. Without science, we would still be stuck in caves and living nomadic, short lifestyles. This is a very “hands-on” course with plenty of opportunity to take part in experiments, debates and school visits and trips.

What is the course offered?

This course will offer the GCSE in Science, covering the following area’s.

Biology Structure and function of living organisms Material cycles and energy Interactions and interdependencies Genetics and evolution

Chemistry Structure and function of living organisms Material cycles and energy

Physics Energy Motion and forces Waves Electricity and electromagnetism Matter Space physics

RE is not about being religious, it is about establishing yourself as a person. It's about knowing that you think, and being aware of what others think. You will examine how religious beliefs interact with moral, ethical and cultural issues.

This course will enable you to develop your communication skills as well as deepening your own beliefs and opinions. You will look at other cultures and how they celebrate life and deal with important matters.

As this is an introductory course we will offer a choice of AQA Units.

Ever wanted to run your own business? Enterprise can make the connection between school and the world of work, enabling young people to develop the knowledge and attitudes they need to succeed, building on key skills such as; communication, confidence, teamwork, problem solving and financial capapbilities.

Why is this course good?

The course can enable students to develop employability skills such as teamwork ,communication, IT, problem solving and literacy and numeracy skills. The enterprise activity makes sense of the knowledge and understanding of the course content by putting in

to context.

The course can help students to build:

The skills, knowledge and understanding which will prepare them for working life as confident individuals and members of society.

Employability skills, such as the ability to problem solve, to communicate effectively and to work well in a team.

Their innovative and creative skills, to take risks and manage them, to become financially capable and to develop a can- do attitude.

What is the course offered?

The ASDAN Enterprise Short Course accredits up to 60 hours of Enterprise activity.

Construction

The construction industry employs millions of people and is one of the most exciting sectors to work in.

Why is this course good?

This is a hands on course, where you have the opportunity to create exciting things using bricks, wood, metal and even the chance to make some of your own electrical items.

You will develop:

Skills in logical thinking, numeracy and computing. Teamwork and communication skills. Awareness of issues when planning and managing construction

projects An understanding of Health and Safety An understanding of effective leadership skills and management of

employees.

As this is an introductory course we will offer AQA units.

Textiles

Have you got that creative flair to design and create your own

clothes? This course allows you to learn how to sew properly so that

you can use a sewing machine or hand sew material to create your

very own articles. Maybe you would like to be a fashion designer or

even a textiles teacher. This is a great introduction to textiles and

what future courses could offer you.

Why is this course good?

This course is a great introduction course and you will learn about a

range of other different skills that you can develop, including

computer aided design and tie dying.

You will get to learn how to use a sewing machine properly and other

textiles skills, such as knitting and embroidery.

You get to let your creative flair loose to make your own clothing.

What is the course offered?

As this introductory course, we are offering AQA unit accreditation.
