Thomas W. Erdmann Area of Specialization:
Expert analysis of motor vehicle collisions. Technical expertise in numerous crash reconstruction disciplines including speed analysis, occupant kinematics, pedestrian crashes, time-distance relationships, lamp examination, road signing evaluation, crash data retrieval, and more. Specialist in indentifying and collecting vehicle and roadway evidence at crash and crime scenes. Reconstructed, investigated, or assisted on over 1000 traffic crashes.

Work Experience:
2013 – Present Law Enforcement Supervisor Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit Primarly responsible for the implementation, administration, presentation, and evaluation of the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit. This includes both crash reconstruction and crime scene investigations. Responsible for the supervision, counseling, evaluation and development of Wisconsin State Patrol employees, instructors, trainees. Responsible for the coordination and supervision of facilities, financial resources, materials, and support personnel, in relation to the Technical Reconstruction Unit. Serve as a technical advisor to Division administrative personnel, Technical Reconstruction Unit personnel and other law enforcement agencies.

2006 – Present Accredited Reconstruction Specialist Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit Full time position primarily responsible for conducting comprehensive investigations of crash and crime scene incidents for the State of Wisconsin. Provide proper application of engineering and scientific principles in the crash and crime scene reconstruction field. Respond to crash and crime incident scenes in order to perform a comprehensive collection and preservation of evidence. Obtain necessary search warrants for evidence collection purposes. Assist with motor vehicle mechanical inspections. Operate scientific equipment such as accelerometers, total stations, and crash data retrieval systems. Provide expert witness testimony for criminal and civil cases. Consult with city, county, state, and federal law enforcement officers and attorneys regarding scientific conclusions. Manage regional-level reconstruction personnel and equipment. Instruct current curriculum for crash reconstruction in-service and crash investigation courses at the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy. Coordinate, maintain, and provide training for the Wisconsin State Patrol’s forensic mapping survey equipment. 1996 – 2006 Regional Crash Reconstructionist Wisconsin State Patrol Bureau of Field Services Perform crash and crime scene reconstruction response and analysis in addition to enforcement patrol functions as a state trooper. Provide expert analysis and testimony for criminal and civil cases in southeastern Wisconsin. Consult with city, county and state law enforcement officers and attorneys regarding scientific conclusions. Manage southeast regional-level reconstruction personnel and equipment. 1989 - 2006 State Trooper Wisconsin State Patrol Bureau of Field Services Enforce state traffic and criminal laws, administrative rules and regulations, with a primary emphasis on highway safety. Investigate traffic crashes and provide assistance to motorists and the public. Provide emergency services to include response to traffic crashes, natural or man-made disasters and civil disorders. Represent the State of Wisconsin in job-related civil and criminal judicial processes including serving as a witness. Perform and coordinate specialized law enforcement activity, functions and assignments, including highly complex and technical services. 1995 – Present Law Enforcement Instructor Wisconsin State Patrol Bureau of the Academy Instructor at the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy for Basic Crash Investigation, Technical Crash Investigation, Vehicle Dynamic, Forensic Mapping, and Crash Reconstruction In-service. Develop course curriculum for evidence collection and processing in the Technical Crash Investigation course. Develop course curriculum for the Forensic Mapping with Total Stations course. 2001 – 2002 Law Enforcement Instructor Waukesha County Technical College Police Academy Develop course curriculum and instruct Basic Crash Investigation at the Waukesha County police recruit academy.

1999 – 2004 Background Investigator Wisconsin State Patrol Bureau of Field Services Complete background investigations on potential new employees of the Wisconsin State Patrol.
