1. RESOURCES FOR THE ENGLISH CLASSROOM

There is a wide quantity of materials to use in the classroom ranging from

the classic text book to the most modern technology of the Internet and

computers. These materials can vary according to the topic we want to

teach, the way in which we want to focus the teaching process, the needs

of the students and obviously, their level.

If we are working with Infant and Elementary levels, there are many good

websites which are worth visiting and using in the classroom. A good

On this website lots of games and videos for little kids can be found. It has

to be taken into account that this is not a website for TEFL but you can use

real audiovisual materials. On the left bar menu, there are several options

such fun games, music and songs, print and color activities and cartoons

videos that can make children enjoy the lesson.

An excellent website for working content areas with Elementary students

The website is organised within 12 content topics: Internet, the familiy, my

town, animals, world countries, people, food and health, my body, sports,

hobbies and entertainments, festivals and travelling.

Every content area covers the four skills and activities can be selected

according to the students level. As you can see bellow, levels are easily

recognisible with the different colours.

On the right side there are four more interesting options, being the test

one very useful for a feedback at the end of the lesson.



Another very interesting link to have into account is The English Corner

Select the activity that suits you most according to the content being

worked with your students at the moment and a window with the

description of the activity will be displayed.

To start using the activity, click on the install tab

and the following dialog shall be displayed.

You can choose either opening the application or save it in your computer.



Always select the “continue” button until the installing process is finished.

As soon as you finish installing the project, you will be able to use it with

your students. Use the blue arrow to surf the different activities.



For secondary education (aged 12+) English lessons, we can make use of

the following pages to implement the motivation of our students through

attractive and up-to-date materials.

If you go to the ESO section, activities going from 1st to 4th Year ESO are

offered to practise grammar points. Most of the activities displayed are

multiple choice questions.

To develop the students listening skills, it is very interesting to offer them

the chance to listen and watch real sources from the radio or television

such as http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/index.shtml.

However, these sources might be pretty difficult to understand if the level

of our students is not advanced enough so there are other websites which

offer listening activities, including interactive quizzes, transcripts of the

audio which have specifically designed for teaching EFL lessons.

A good example could be http://www.elllo.org/ , a page which offers more

than 1,000 listening activities with simple activities and videos.

The British Council page can be an interesting resource as well. You can

chooses different listening activities from more elementary levels to
