NSTXNSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – Current status of High k (Kim) July 27, 2009 2

Topics related to high k system performance

• Upgrade for remote control of optics

• Data acquisition system

• Status of Channel 3

• Scattered signal

• Noise

NSTXNSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – Current status of High k (Kim) July 27, 2009 3

Status of Remote Control

• Upgrade for remote control of optics– Launch Mirror horizontal sweep X Need to purchase

new drive component to provide higher torque

– Launch Mirror vertical sweep O (operational)– Collection Mirror horizontal sweep O (operational)– Exit Window Mirror horizontal sweep O (operational)– Exit Window Mirror vertical sweep X Not needed– Attenuation control X Under design

Improvement of Data Acquisition System

• DAQ• Related to order data from digitizers were archived after

each shot– After adding another D-tAcq board for FIReTIP to the high k pc, DAQ

errors occurred more frequently than before. Task Force figured out the problem immediately and effectively. Related to order data from digitizers were archived after each shot

NSTXNSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – Current status of High k (Kim) July 27, 2009 5

Status of Channel 3

• Mixer for Channel 3 not working– No replacement at PPPL or UC Davis– Mixer sent to UC Davis for repairs

• All four other channels operational

NSTXNSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – Current status of High k (Kim) July 27, 2009 6

Issues with Scattered Signal

• No problem in getting scattered signal– Alignment of system being checked periodically

NSTXNSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – Current status of High k (Kim) July 27, 2009 7

Scattered signal

•Wed, Jul 22, 2009 (XMP26)R~ 120 cm

NSTXNSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – Current status of High k (Kim) July 27, 2009 8

Scattered signal (continued)

•Fri, Jul 24, 2009 (XMP26)R~ 120 cm

NSTXNSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – Current status of High k (Kim) July 27, 2009

Scattered signal (continued)

•Mon, Jul 27, 2009 (XP916)R~ 120 cm

NSTXNSTX NSTX Monday Physics Meeting – Current status of High k (Kim) July 27, 2009

High-k Noise

• High-k has bursting >1 MHz noise.

• The high-k noise spectra resemble that of a scattering signal.
