ORGANIZING COMMITTEE The nationwide COVID-19 lockdown has forcedschools, colleges and universities to shut down. Inthese unprecedented times, to continue teachinglearning process, Vellore Institute of Technology(VIT) is offering a fantastic opportunity for e-learning through this International conference.VIT, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, INDIA and SwanseaUniversity, UK, proudly announce Indo-UK VirtualConference on 'Current Innovations and the Futureof Therapeutic Developments' to be held on June01-03, 2020 through Zoom platform. Thisconference will host leading scientists from theacademia and industry worldwide who will delivertheir talk on cutting edge advances in variousdisciplines on drug discovery, development ofnew medications and therapies. The focus of theconference will be on the interdisciplinaryapproaches at the interface of engineering anddiagnostics, chemistry, drug development, cellbiology and translational medicine. The conferenceaims to provide many interesting perspectives onhow science and technology of drug discovery anddrug therapy are changing rapidly, therebyproviding new opportunities to scientists andclinicians.A brain-storming panel discussion on ‘In search ofcoronavirus treatments – the opportunities andchallenges in India’ is an important component ofthis virtual conference. Heads of reputedinstitutions, eminent scientists, clinicians, andpolicy makers will address key questions such as,How India is dealing with the coronavirusoutbreak? What are the challenges in finding acure for coronavirus? What are the hurdles inbringing a drug for viral diseases? How India canplay a major role in a Covid-19 vaccinedevelopments?
During the three days, the participants will have theopportunity to learn about the latest researchtrends in pharmaceutical drug discovery anddevelopment.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCEAn opportunity will be given to 10 Ph.D students toshare their research outcome through oralpresentation. Prizes for the best talks and e-posterswill presented based on the reviewers’ evaluation. It is anticipated that at least 1500-2000 participantsfrom various parts of India will be joining in thismeeting. This webinar series targets B.Tech/M.Tech,masters, PhD research scholars, and early careerresearchers from chemistry, pharmaceutical, biomedical, life sciences, and nanotechnologydisciplines.
ABOUT VITVellore Institute of Technology (VIT), recognized asone of the Institution of Eminence (IoE) in 2019 byGovernment of India, was founded as VelloreEngineering College in 1984 by the ChancellorDr. G. Vishwanathan. VIT was awarded 1st positionamong private institutions in India for Innovation(ARIIA 2019 Award) by Govt. of India, as recognitionfor its excellence in nurturing research innovationsand entrepreneurship in young minds. VIT, knownfor its academic excellence, attracts students fromall the 29 states of India and more than 41 differentcountries. Currently, VIT has 4 campuses – inVellore, Chennai, Amaravati (AP) and Bhopal (MP).
VIT achieved 18th position among the engineeringinstitutions in India by NIRF 2019, Govt. of India. VITreceived 4 STAR rating in QS ranking, making it, thefirst institution in India to have this credential. Inaddition to this, the consortium of industries, FICCIconferred VIT with the “Excellence in Faculty”award. VIT was ranked number one ahead of otherpremier Indian universities for its number ofpublications in SCOPUS Indexed Research Journalsfor the year 2019. VIT has consistently received “A”grade in the past three cycles of NAACaccreditation. In addition, VIT also has received thecoveted ABET accreditation, which is widelyrecognized throughout the world. VIT, which isconsistently placed among the best institutions ofthe country, aspires to become one of the bestuniversities in the world.

Centre for Biomaterials, Cellular and MolecularTheranostics (CBCMT) was established in the year2016 under the able leadership of Prof. GeethaManivasagam and is an integral part of VIT. Thisinterdisciplinary research center works on cuttingedge science at the interface of physical, biological, chemical and engineering sciences. Theresearch team comprise of material scientists, metallurgists, physicists, electrical engineers, bioengineers, chemists, biologists and clinicians, who work together to address the unmet needs inthe areas of biomaterials, cellular and moleculartheranostics. Some of the key focus areas includebone tissue engineering, biocorrosion andbiomechanics, cardiac tissue engineering, cornealtissue regeneration, drug discovery and delivery, quantum dots for theranostics, sensors formicrobial detection and implant health monitoring, and stem cell delivery. CBCMT is equipped withhigh-end instruments to carry out experimentsranging from materials synthesis, materialprocessing, characterizations as well as advancedtissue culture facilities. The recent addition to thiscenter, HOME (Human Organ Manufacturing andEngineering) Lab is an advanced 3D bioprintingfacility equipped with two high-end Cellink BioXbioprinters as well as few basic bioprinters. Withthis addition, center is better positioned tofabricate 3D organoids and tissue mimics, whichwill be also be one of the key focus areas incoming years. It is equipped with high endercharacterization instruments such as confocalmicroscope, cell culture lab, qPCr, Tribocorrosiontester, fretting wear tester, scratch tester, environmental controlled furnaces, alloy coatings, plasma treatment setup, and electrophoreticdeposition unit. The ongoing projects of the centerare funded by both national and internationalfunding agencies. The center also has a strongresearch collaboration with scientists from leadingresearch laboratories within India as well as acrossthe globe.
