• The captain of the ship wanted to take a shortcut and crashed into the Astrolabe reef.

• The oil went in to the sea.

Who caused this accident?

• A 43 year old Filipino.• He has been arrested and is now being held in

a cell in Tauranga District Court• The punishment is maximum 12 months in jail.

How does the oil damage the world?

• 1000 birds were found dead and over a 110 birds were injured cause of the oil.

• There are also dolphins, whales, penguins, seals and rare sea birds in the sea.

• 330 tons of oil leaked in to the sea.

and• Apart from the oil damage there were 30 to

70 containers that fell over board.
