Social Issue: Women’s Rights• Discrimination against women’s voting rights,
education, and personal security. • Socio-beliefs on women’s education being
unnecessary and dangerous. • Only 12.6% of women in Afghanistan are
educated.• Estimated 1 million extremely poor Afghan
widowed women. • 50% of children under 5 suffer from
malnutrition
Why Where They Poor?• Lack of resources.• Limited arable (able to grow crops) land.• Rain and precipitation is rare.• Illiteracy of men and women is very low
(about 90% of women, 63% of men are illiterate).
• Income depends on agricultural activities (ex. farming, selling crops).
• Lack of infrastructure materials.• CORRUPT GOVERNMENT!!!!
Economical Issues• Average GDP of the nation is about $400-$800
per capita.• Lots of money sponsored from external
nations/organizations (over $50 billion) were too heavily spent to pay for war debts.
• The country was under Taliban rule from 1996 to 2001. They were extremely corrupt.
