Cupernham Infant School Newsletter 8 7 th February 2020 Over the last couple of weeks, myself and the Senior Leadership team have spent time monitoring the quality of teaching and learning across the whole school. We have enjoyed visiting all the classrooms, speaking to the children about their own learning and looking through their books. I have particularly enjoyed talking to the children and celebrating the progress they are currently making. Local News: We have been asked to take part in the abbess exhibition project which will be one of the major events of Romsey Abbey's 900th anniversary celebrations. The abbess (a female superior of a community of nuns, which is often an abbey) project requires us, along with other schools in the area, to decorate a wooden structure of an abbess. This will then be exhibited in Romsey Abbey for everyone to go and see. We are looking forward to taking part in this special event. Have a lovely weekend! Kind regards Mr. D. Wells Our Learning This Week Year R Over the past few weeks we have been continuing our learning about dinosaurs; through caption writing about photographs and moving like them to learn a dance routine. The children were very excited to discover some dinosaurs trapped in ice! We had discussions about ice and freezing; asking lots of questions and watched them melt in the Curiosity Cube. Year 1 We have been busy writing superhero stories and loved sharing them with the year four children from Cupernham Juniors. We can’t wait to share them with you on Superhero Day (12 th Feb 2020 at 2.45pm). Well done to those children who took part in the level two gymnastics festival this week. Year One won second and third place. Year 2 This week we have loved rewriting the start of George’s Marvellous medicine. We have also begun to use blue highlighters so the children can reflect on their own learning. In maths we have been learning how we can use different coins to make the same amount. We have also been learning about living a healthy lifestyle in science. Our Learning This Week

Year R Over the past few weeks we have been

continuing our learning about dinosaurs;

through caption writing about photographs

and moving like them to learn a dance

routine. The children were very excited to

discover some dinosaurs trapped in ice! We

had discussions about ice and freezing;

asking lots of questions and watched them

melt in the Curiosity Cube.

Year 1

We have been busy writing superhero stories

and loved sharing them with the year four

children from Cupernham Juniors. We can’t

wait to share them with you on Superhero

Day (12th Feb 2020 at 2.45pm).

Well done to those children who took part in

the level two gymnastics festival this week.

Year One won second and third place.

Year 2

This week we have loved rewriting the start

of George’s Marvellous medicine. We have

also begun to use blue highlighters so the

children can reflect on their own learning. In

maths we have been learning how we can

use different coins to make the same

amount. We have also been learning about

living a healthy lifestyle in science.

After half term, we will be introducing the ‘Monday Masterclass.’ Every Monday between 11am and 12noon children will be taking part in an exciting opportunity to try something new. We are hoping that through taking part in these activities, it will allow children to work across different year groups, get to know each other, nurture, develop and stretch pupils’ talents and interests. Each class teacher will be teaming up with a member of the support team to lead an activity over the next half term. Some of the activities include; sewing, gardening, card making, forest fun, music, art, dance, book club, photography, balance ability and even ‘train tracks’. We are very much looking forward to these classes. Children will experience a different master class each half term.

Emergency Action in the Event of Snow

We are keen that where possible the school will keep running

during any bouts of snow and that children should attend –

However in the event that the site is unsafe or we are unable to

staff the day a closure will be necessary. When deemed unsafe the

back gate may be closed and the main entrance open only. In the

event that we should have to close the information below may

assist you:

If you think the weather is bad and there is a likelihood that school

may not operate, please listen to the local radio or look at the HCC

website.

Hampshire County Council website will list all school closures: http://www.hants.gov.uk/schoolclosures

The following Radio Stations will give regular updates: - BBC Radio Solent / Heart South Coast / The Breeze / The Coast / Wave 105 Should we need to close during the school day we would contact

you by text or phone or email.

We have noticed that a few of the children have started

to bring rucksacks into school rather than books bags.

Unfortunately, due to the arrangements and size of our

classrooms we are unable to store these in school and

therefore ask that children only bring book bags rather

than rucksacks. Thank you.
