ORANGE DISTRICT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL AT WARATAHS

Thank you to our parents and grandparents who will be transporting their children to the Orange

Athletics Carnival at Waratahs Oval in Orange this Friday. We are taking another large squad of

competitors and wish the students the best of luck. Please come and see Mrs Schulz, Mrs Dwyer

or Mrs Allcorn at the event for attendance procedures. Thank you again to our amazing parents

for their support and the early start that will be necessary to arrive in time for the Carnival. Mr

West and Miss Rivers will be at school with the remaining students.

KIDS LIT

Motivating, fun, challenging and intriguing!

These are words that describe the KidsLit Quiz. Next year Cumnock will again be entering a team

in the KidsLit Quiz. The quiz will be open to students who will be in Years 5 and 6 in 2020. Questions

come from a wide range of topics and genre including nursery rhymes, science fiction, Greek

myths, poetry, authors, settings, characters and literary terminology. This year’s questions came

from books including Harry Potter, Muppets, Robin Hood, Minions, Roald Dahl and Rudyard

Kipling books and many more. So start reading now, anything and everything!

PSSA GIRLS AND BOYS OSSA GOLD SOCCER RESULTS

We are proud of the efforts of our OSSA Gold soccer teams at this high level of competition. The

OSSA Gold soccer squads competed against Orange Public School’s teams of highly skilled club

players, predominantly from Year 6. We gave our best and came away with a 12-nil defeat in the

boys’ match and only an 8-nil deficit in the girls’ game. Thanks again to our parent supporters

who froze on the sideline and cheered heartily to keep warm. The OSSA Gold boys’ and girls’

hockey matches will take place in the coming weeks. We look forward to hearing of these results!

CWA PUBLIC SPEAKING ALL SCHOOLS COMPETITION

Yesterday, Jonathan, Zali Armstrong, Charlie Duffy and Angus O’Brien represented our school at

James Sheahan in Orange for the Central West CWA Competition. The students have worked

hard to refine their speeches and we were delighted to hear they all enjoyed the mammoth task

of standing before an unknown audience on stage. Once again, thank you to the parents for

transporting their children to this event. Well done Jonathan, Zali, Charlie D and Angus!

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Our staff are committed and dedicated to improving their knowledge, teaching practices and

understanding of the students in their care. Throughout the year, staff take the opportunity to

attend important professional learning courses. This week, Mrs Hubbard represented our school at

the Live Life Well at School initiative. Through Sparke, Miss Rivers attended the Early Careers

Network and Mrs Brodie a session entitled, “Secondary Trauma and the Teachers that it Affects”.

Next week, Mrs Vickers and Mr West will travel to Orange for information in the implementation of

the new PDHPE syllabus and Mrs Schulz will be present at “Leading Curriculum Monitoring for

Continuous School Improvement”. Mrs Allcorn and Mrs Dwyer have upskilled their understanding

of Athletics and Swimming Meet Manager and Cross Country procedures and processes. Thank

you to all our staff who are prepared to continually improve in their practices and forever strive in

their own learning to ensure our school motto is upheld and “there will be no limit to what we can

achieve” at Cumnock Public School. Great work, team Cumnock!

sent home as to entry fees and what events they have nominated.

This year, I will also be taking stage three (i.e. year 5/6) for verse speaking choir, which will be

held on, Wednesday 31st July.

The whole school, will be participating in the small schools choir vocal section, to be held on, Tuesday 13th August.

Any queries please don't hesitate to ask.

HAPPY HUNGRIES DESIGN COMPETITION

You can help by being part of our new Breakfast Club Mural project!

Draw “Happy Hungry Monsters” on an A4 piece of paper and you could

be selected for the final design!

Thankyou to our amazing artistic directors, Mrs Bron Flick & Mrs Jill Brodie

who are leading this project.

A flyer will be sent home with all students this week! Thank you for your

anticipated entries. This is open to our whole community!

GIRLS TIME OUT

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is

Youer than You”, Dr Seuss. This term the female year 5 and 6 students started participating in the

Girls Time Out program, with Mrs. Nelson (Student Wellbeing Officer) on Monday lunchtimes. The

program has been developed to provide a safe and fun environment for the young female

students to explore, explain and discuss various topics about their social, emotional and physical

health and wellbeing. At Cumnock we understand the importance of students connecting with

their own wellbeing, and the wellbeing of others, of which this program strives to achieve for the

students.

THANK YOU

We would like to thank Dimitri and Jenny Anikin who have lent a sewing machine to Mrs

McFarland’s sewing group.
