CUMC Newsletter
January 2019
The holidays of 2018 are now in our rear view
mirror. That happened fast! As we look toward what
this new year might have in store for us, we look
ahead with optimism. We are another year older and
hopefully another year wiser!
In my family, we have a couple of traditions that take
place around the turn of the year. Of course, we have
the traditional sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and pork.
We also take a New Year’s day trip to the Heart of
Ohio antiques mall in Springfield. We have been
doing this since before the kids
were born. Not sure why or how
it started but we all look forward
to taking our Christmas money
and finding a treasure or
two. We each have our own
items we love to collect. Levi
collects tools for his blacksmithing forge (that he will
have someday), Liam collects vintage medical items,
Lauren likes old jewelry, especially opal. Paul is a
renaissance man, we never know what he’s going to
find interesting. It could be a lamp or a book or an old
set of sleigh bells! Me, I like the old pottery matte
finish, cream colored.
So we spend the day together hunting for treasures
for ourselves and also for the others’ favorite finds.
We really enjoy talking over things we see and things
we find interesting. It’s a wonderful day for us to
simply be together. There isn’t much of a WIFI signal
in there so we aren’t being distracted by phone calls
or social media. There’s a quaint little cafe where we
sit and enjoy our lunch together. It’s a day we all look
forward to! For me, it’s about the togetherness much
more than the stuff.
I wonder, do we get as excited to spend time away
with the Lord? Do we set aside designated time to be
alone with the Lord, searching for the treasures that
await us? Do we search to find treasures for our
loved ones and enjoy the shared experience? Do we
seek to grow in our faith with intention and purpose?
This year, may we visit the Heart of Our Hearts and
find time away with the Lord. Maybe for the first time
or maybe you visit often, one thing I know for sure,
there are always new treasures to be found. May you
find all that you are
looking for and some
surprising new
revelations as you grown
in faith this New Year!
With love,
Pastor Chris

What Comes Up—Must Come Down!
Christmas Decoration Day was a success, and the church looks
lovely. However, it will soon be time to take it all down. Let’s
pitch in together again. Please plan to come on Thursday,
January 17, 2019 at 6:30 to help undecorate. Thanks!
Birthdays
One Calls This is the season for unpredictable weather. If church
events should be cancelled due to weather, a One Call will be sent. If you do not currently receive One Calls and would like to, please call the church office with your number or use the yellow sign up sheet on the credenza.
The One Call System is also the way for the church to get information our to you. This information comes in many forms. It may be a prayer concern or a special
need, or simply a blessing for you. Please be aware that there is no regular schedule for One Calls. They are sent as often as they are warranted!

On Dec 19 and 20 we hosted the preschool children and
their families for their annual Christmas programs. These
two evenings were very well attended by the preschool
community. We estimate that we hosted 400-450
people between the two evenings!
We are very blessed to have such wonderful preschool staff and families! The children were wonderful to
watch and listen to! Even though many of the children had Paw Patrol on their wish list, all were introduced
to the best gift ever, Jesus Christ.
We look forward to watching these children grow in knowledge and stature and faith in the coming year!
