• When going to another country, you experience culture shock

• This will be true for Google if we move to Japan

Phase One

• The first phase of culture shock when going to another country like Japan is the Bubble phase

• It is a feeling of happiness and wonder• Everything is new, and you think everything is wonderful• You think the Japanese are all wonderful and have the

best intentions for you• There are so many things for you to discover and life is

exciting• This phase can last 6 months, and then it comes to an end

Phase Two

• After the Bubble phase ends, you come back down to earth and the next phase sets in

• Characteristics of this phase include loneliness, insecurity, and feelings of being lost in the new culture

• Happiness gets replaced with irritation• You start blaming the new culture for your problems• This is because the mind is temporarily being

overwhelmed by a big change• This is the natural outcome of the mind as it tries to

adjust to the new culture• You can either stick it out or get on a plane and go

home

Phase Three

• If you stick out the second phase, you make it to phase three

• In this phase, the mind begins to figure out the newness of Japan

• Feelings of being overwhelmed are replaced with feelings of confidence

• Feelings of isolation begin to fade, and you stop blaming Japan for all of your problems

• You begin to appreciate Japan

How to Adjust

• Culture shock is difficult to adjust to, but it can be done

• You have to realize that pointing fingers just wastes time

• Exercising is a good way to relieve the stress of culture shock

• Ask some friends how they dealt with culture shock

Potential Reasons for Moving to Japan

• Japan is recognized as a leading center for innovation• The country has highly attractive business

environments • It is one of the world’s largest economies• Japan plays an important role as a “bridge nation”

connecting Asia to the world, which contributes to Asia’s growth

• It is a huge market with one of the world’s biggest economies and has sectors with large growth potential

Is there a need for jobs?• Japan has technicians and a well-

educated and industrious work force. Thus, there is a need for jobs. This is perfect for our company. Spreading Google to Japan would create jobs for Japanese people.

Economy

Will the company make money?• There is no doubt that the company

would make money. Japan has an industrialized, free-market economy, and it is the third largest in the world. Its economy is highly efficient. The country also has high savings and investment rates. For these reasons, the company would make money.
