SPECIAL JAZZ FEST ISSUE

1PM: JOE KEYES & THE LATE BLOOMER BAND, an ensemble of Baltimore-area musicians, offers a brand of live improvisation and musical sophistication that results in a different experience at every show. Inspired by musical mentors Gil Scott-Heron, Joe Bowie and Sun Ra, their sound is a modern interpretation of funk, jazz, rock and a variety of other genres.

3:45 PM: LEE FIELDS & THE EXPRESSIONS Lee Fields has been recording and performing old-school soul since 1969, but his music sounds — and feels — just as relevant today. A regular on the festival circuit in the U.S. and worldwide, Fields has also collaborated with the The Black Keys, Wilco, and Kool & The Gang. Pitchfork magazine says he has a “nuanced vitality that makes his sixties sound like most artists’ thirties.”

5:30 PM: THE SOUL REBELS started with an idea to expand upon the pop music they loved on the radio and the New Orleans brass tradition they grew up on. They took that tradition and blended funk and soul with elements of hip-hop, jazz and rock. The band has settled on an eight-piece lineup and has built a career around an eclectic live show that harnesses the power of horns and drums in the party-like atmosphere of a dance club.

JAZZ FESTThe Soul Rebels to headline annual music festivalFor the past 27 years, the Rosslyn Jazz Fest has taken over all of the three-acre, urban Gateway Park.

This much-anticipated event draws upwards of 5,000 music fans for a day of dynamic, free performances. Come hear live music performed by some of the biggest names in jazz and world music today.

2:20 PM: XENIA RUBINOS With the pop sensibility of Mariah Carey and the soulfulness of Erykah Badu, Rubinos’ powerhouse vocals are at the center of her music, which she creates through a wide range of influences, from R&B to hip-hop to Caribbean rhythms and jazz. She has been lauded in publications such as The New Yorker and Pitchfork.

AN UPDATE FROM THE ROSSLYN BIDOver the past few months, we’ve been excited to welcome many new businesses to Rosslyn. Those mentioned above join a diverse group of 115+ restaurants, cafés, retailers, and services and 1,000+ businesses already here.

This growth is symbiotic. As more companies move here and new residential buildings come online, our growing employee and residential customer base encourages retailers and restaurants to set their sights on Rosslyn.

Likewise, as the selection of neighborhood amenities grows with more restaurants and services, companies are increasingly attracted to Rosslyn as an ideal location for their workforces.

The BID engages with all of these companies from the moment they sign a lease. Our goal is to ensure they have a smooth transition and find ways to integrate themselves and thrive in Rosslyn. We also help new office tenants familiarize employees with Rosslyn by providing orientations, information and other employee resources.
