• Minister for People’s Enlightenment and Propaganda

• He spread the Nazi message, so as to get more voters

• He would also stop any opposition to the Nazis, like jazz music

• He did this by censorship

•He could stop radio broadcasts from going out, along with films, literature, theatre and art

•He forced journalists to write favourable things about Nazis, like how their decisions and views are good for Germany.

Censorship

• Goebbels banned many things that he believed would harm Germany, or the Nazi party.

• Many Weimar Republic authors, along with poets, playwrights and musicians of this era.

• He also encouraged pro-Nazi culture, such as Wagner.

Radio

• He also made radios very cheap, so everyone could get one, no matter of wealth

• He did this so as to let everyone hear Nazi broadcasts, even the poor (to whom they would have appealed)

• There were as many radios as there were people in 1930’s Germany

The Nazi Newspapers• There was “Der Stürmer”

(The Attacker), pictured right.

• This was more of a tabloid paper, appealing to lower classes.

• Goebbels own paper was “Das Reich” (The Empire)

• Goebbels himself wrote for it.

• Read by upwards of 1 million people

• There were also many more, smaller newspapers.

Speeches

• Hitler was a very gifted public speaker, and could win over a crowd in minutes.

• He did these at the Nuremburg rallies, among others.

• This spread the word, and would also make people think Nazism is right.
