INTERVIEWING TEACHERS AT BJM
GAUGING CULTURAL RESPONSIVENESS
PURPOSE
My intention for conducting this research is to gain more information about the teachers at BJM that could be useful for Dr. Nia and other faculty members who support culturally responsive education and are trying to integrate these methods into practice.
GAINING ACCESS
I emailed all of the teachers who currently work at BJM asking them for permission to partake in my project
I currently have 14 scheduled interviews
Structure questions to be open and inviting
During the interview, do not challenge answers or share position.
Encourage a deeper explanation
DATA COLLECTION METHOD
RESULTS
I have only completed 4 out of 14 interviews to dateCommon themes I have noticed so far:Direct connection between childhood educational experiences and current methodologies
Many teachers believe that culture is not a primary factor in how children learn
They believe all people learn differently and each child is an individual
