What is jewellery?Jewellery is… Personal ornaments, such as necklaces, rings, or bracelets, that are typically made from or contain jewels and precious metal.

TASK 1 Jewellery researchResearch which types of jewellery you and your family wear. Make a list of the types of jewellery and then write a description for each piece. You can present your information either on paper or using PowerPoint.

TASK 2: Observational studies Ask permission to borrow some jewellery (or you might have your own). Put the jewellery in front of you and create 3 small drawings using a pencil. Remember to add tone and shade like you have been taught in lessons. If you can, take a photo of your work and then add the photo to your PowerPoint.

Task 3 Cultural research:Choose one of the cultures to base your jewellery on. You need to research your chosen culture by finding examples of their artwork and Jewellery. You then need to answer the questions below.

• Which theme have you chosen and why?• History of the theme- Where did it start? What is it inspired by- nature,

spirituality, plants, animals?• Are there any symbols within your chosen theme?- Example- Some Islamic

patterns often represent floral and natural themes.

Present all of your information in your PowerPoint.

TASK 7: Creating your own designsOn paper, using a pencil, create 4 different jewellery designs. Your designs need to be inspired by the your chosen designer and culture.

Your designs can be for a ring, bracelet, earring, pendant etc. You decide!

Designing your own jewelleryDesigners/ craftspeople create lots of designs when they explore ideas. This allows the designers to expand on their creativity and not go with the most obvious design.To add more challenge most designers create work for a client and will need to be adaptable in changingtheir designs to please their client and get paid.

TASK 8: Choosing a final design On your piece of paper write the title final design. Then using a pencil, sketch out your final jewellery design. Once you have finished your sketch, add colour to your design.

Remember that you can adapt one of your designs from the last task, make changes, add different colours or create a total new design.

Once you have finished take a picture of your design and add this to your PowerPoint (if you know how to do this).
