Precedent Study

The site is low lying with black cotton soil. Like most part of the region, monsoon rain will cause fl ooding, so to protect the guest all buildings are build at a podium which is 1 meter above ground level. The podium is also use for the storage of water and for services to run though. Concrete is the main mate-rial used in the project, one of the reason for choosing this material is because there is good supplies .

Waste water and clean water be treated at this building. The storage of these water would be at the podium level

Project Brief- The building must be able to used for both working and living.- The building must be capable to change its use from working to living without major change to structure and facade

- The building must include a range of different sizes of dwelling space.- The building must have a public use.- The manifesto would be the foundation of the design process.

I wanted to design a building which are long lasting and able to withstand against time. This is why concrete is chosen as the main material, the solid-ity of the material is to demonstrate its pleasant. The rhythm on the facade is defi ne by the program inside, just like ripples on the river which is defi ne by the movements around the water. Finally the interesting contrast between the building I designed in my site and the building outside the boundary line hopefully could be maintained, the contrast between old and new, little and tall, is the true fabric of how this little community works.

Section A.A

This section drawing is to show the relationship of the site and its context. It compares the residential area inside the site and the newly build residential area outside the site, although most of the build-ings in this section are all residential buildings, there are still a strong contracts in terms of building height and building mass with the majority of build-ings in our site at 2 to 3 storeys high, this create a strong contrasts when you see on the other side of the Green way we see a 41 storeys high residential buildings reaching up to 139 meters.

Project Brief

Our site is located at Newham East Lon-don, it is very close to the 2012 Olympic Park. Our task was to choice an area within the site to develop and the devel-opment should have a good diversity of uses.

Project Brief

The Project was located at Old Kent Road, South East London. A historic Roman road which ran from Dover (South East England) to Holyhead (West Wales). The task was to fi nd a place at Old Kent Road to build a room which able to accommodate your self and the room could not be larger than 25 square metres.

Design SolutionI have chosen to build on top of a supermarket name ASDA, the reason been is because I felt the location is well located with plenty of shops around and a good transport links it also used up free spaces with in the city, which I think was a good idea at the time. As I started to develop my idea, I felt there was an opportunity to build a series of rooms similar to this room so others could enjoy the spaces on top of a super-market. The other benefi ts of building in a higher density, is to increase its energy effi ciency and use up the heat which escapes from the large roof top of the existing building. The material used for this room would be similar to the mate-rial used on the supermarket, which is a light weight steel structure with steel and glass panels. The reason for this ap-proach is to keep the overall language of the existing building.

Project Brief

The Project was located in Hack-ney, London. The Garden was run by charities and other nonprofi t organisations. As the garden grew in popularity, more spaces are needed in order to provide projects including horticultural education, therapeuti-cal sessions and other services for students and the community.

Design Solution

To allow the Garden to run more effi ciently. I designed two sperate building to handle different services. The Garden shop would be located at north east end of the garden this allow shoppers to have an easy ac-cess from the main road, and also give visitors a good view into the garden, students could also prepare themselves. The second building would be where most activities could be held, it allows students to en-joy preparing plants and other horticultural activities.

Changing room, shop and offi ce

The problem with the existing building is victors often missed the shop and the garden offi ce, therefor people often don’t understand what is the garden for.

I have relocate the shop changing room and the offi ce , at the front of the garden. So victors could be attracted from the street and they could fi rst learn about the garden before they enters.

Design Solution

The building would provided a place for women who are hurt by domestic violence. The refuge would give them and their children’s a place to heal and also to learn new skills. This is why I have located the cafe and a laundry shop at the ground fl oor. Rooms and backup house for the shops below are located at the fi rst and second fl oor. The kitchens and the backup house is not on the ground fl oor is because I wanted new comers could learn from the more experience house mates, creating an atmosphere of a home. A home that would allow them to heal and to learn new skills so hopefully they could have a speedy recovery and return to the community.

Project Brief

This Project was also located at Old Kent Road, the brief was to build a women refuge for the community, it would be a short term home for those women who are in need of a shelter, or just wanted times away from home. This would be the place where women in the neighbourhood could gather and share their problems.

A-Women who needs help would start of in the consultation room which is more private

BCDE- New comers would stay in the second fl oor which is more private and as they recover, they could come out and enjoy the living room and able to look at how others are recovering.

GH- As she recovers she can learn new skills and get ready to return to the society

1:100 model: A curved facade was used to respond to the busy cross-road, as I see the road as a fl owing river and the building as a pebble in this river breaking waves. This pebble would act as a sanctuary for the women’s who need help. This is also the reason why there is a stream of water surrounding the building. However this was than later developed as I don’t want the building to stand out from the surrounding.

In the design of the facade of the restaurant a series of balconies are used to give users to enjoy the indoor and out-door spaces. Wooden fi ns are than used to warp around the building to reduce the amount of sunlight in to the building.
