Introduction

Celebrating one hundred years of Cub Scouts…

In 2016 we will celebrate one hundred years of Cub Scouts with local and national celebrations.

In 1916, the section we now know as Cub Scouts was formed and within it’s first year 30,000 young people joined. Cub Scouting has grown to over 150,000 members who enjoy fun, challenge and adventure across the UK.

Nottinghamshire is already leading the way with plans for the centenary celebrations as one of our very own Cubs, Amber Pheasant of 1st Burton Joyce, won the national competition to design the 100 Years of Cub

Scouts badge. Her design was chosen by Bear Grylls out of over 7,000 entries. Amber has received a special version of the badge (as seen below) and it will be available nationwide in late 2015.

There are many exciting plans for both 2015 and 2016, from thrilling outdoor activities to engaging programme ideas. This information pack aims to keep you informed so you can start planning with your young people as early as possible.

In 2015 we will be challenging the Cubs to two activities a month that are a little bit different in order to prepare them for the big year.

2016 kicks off with a launch party, ‘thank-you’ events for leaders, adventure camps, activity days and so much more. We will round off the year by renewing our promise at the same time as everyone else around the UK at a Promise Party.

I can’t wait to get stuck in to everything we have planned and hope you will come along for the ride. It’s going to be an action-packed time!

Leader’s Launch Saturday 28th February 2015 - Samworth Academy, Mansfield Come and discover the exciting plans that we have in Nottinghamshire for the Cub Scout Centenary!

BIG Weekend Friday 22nd - Monday 25th May 2015 - Southwell Racecourse An activity-filled bank holiday weekend for all Scouting sections.

Water Activity Day Sunday 28th June & Sunday 12th July 2015 - Walesby Forest Scout Camp An activity day for Beavers and Cubs that takes place on the lake at the top of Walesby Forest.

Air Activity Day Saturday 15th August 2015 - Newark Air Museum Discover how aircrafts work and complete your Air Activities badge.

Up High Activity Day Sunday 20th September - Holme Pierrepont A session on the Sky Trail followed by mini-golf and a kite-making and flying competition in the park afterwards.

2016, Centenary of Cub Scouting

Everything that is happening in 2016

Launch Party Saturday 23rd January 2016 - The Dome, Doncaster Kick off the centenary celebrations with a splash and a skate! We’ve hired out both the split-level ice skating rink and the Amazonian Adventure swimming pool.

‘Thank You’ Events March 2016 - District teams Let’s celebrate our leaders! The Cubs themselves will help organise a district level event that recognises everything that leaders do. This could involve helping to produce decorations to theme the venue, welcoming visitors, providing food and drinks and putting on some form of entertainment.

Cub Centenary Camp Friday 29th April - Monday 2nd May - Newark Showground An adventure camp for all 2,500 Cub Scouts! We will be getting all Cub Scouts from the county together for the bank holiday weekend to celebrate under the stars.

Family Fun Day and BBQ July 2016 - District teams Celebrate with the whole family! Get all of the Cubs in your district, their friends and parents together for a summer fun day. Set the BBQ going and lay on some games and show everyone what Cub Scouting is all about!

London Adventure Saturday 17th September 2016 Take a trip to the capital! Experience the Science and Natural History museums and go for a picnic in Hyde Park.

Leader’s Centenary Celebration Saturday 8th October 2016 - Rushcliffe Come together with leaders from all over Nottinghamshire for an informal bite and ceilidh.

Promise Party Friday 16th December 2016 - District teams Join the rest of the Cubs around the UK in renewing their promise at 19:16!
