Faculty from all areas of the College will join together to celebrate life. A special performance will end the concert that is sure to inspire everyone who attends. September 11, 2 p.m. Grusin Music Hall Faculty Spotlight Nicolò Spera, guitar Instructor of Classical Guitar Nicolò Spera became a member of the faculty this fall. The Italian guitarist brings to his teaching and performance a unique synthesis of European and American traditions. As a soloist, Spera is one of the few guitarists in the world to perform on both six- string and ten-string guitars. He has won prizes at several Italian and international competitions and is regularly invited to play in musical festivals like the Mediterranean Guitar Festival in Italy and the Sauble Beach Festival in Canada. September 27, 7:30 p.m. Grusin Music Hall CU Jazz Jazz composer and conductor Maria Schneider with CU Jazz Ensemble I Maria Schneider’s music has been hailed by critics as “evocative, majestic, magical, heart-stoppingly gorgeous, and beyond categorization.” She and her orchestra became widely known starting in 1994 when they released their debut recording, Evanescence. With that recording, Schneider began to develop a highly personal way of writing for her 17-member collective. Schneider joins CU Jazz Ensemble I for a special free performance funded by the Roser Visiting Artist Program. November 18, 7:30 p.m. Macky Auditorium Artist Series Irish Chamber Orchestra with Leon Fleisher, piano Legendary pianist Leon Fleisher joins the distinguished Irish Chamber Orchestra for a program featuring Mozart, Prokofiev, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. The ICO is a vibrant, refreshing, and influential force on the classical and contemporary music scene. Sidelined by a rare neurological disease at the height of his career, renowned pianist Leon Fleisher’s recent inspirational comeback was the subject of an Oscar-nominated documentary.
