LEVELS OF ORGANIZATION
CTO3
CellsThe basic structure of living things
Human body contains about 100 trillion cells
UNI CELLULAR ORGANISMS
• CELL = ORGANISM
• No levels
• Each type of cell is different organism.
MULTI CELLULAR ORGANISMS
• Cells - Tissue - Organ - System - Organism
• Different types of cells are needed to create different levels.
SPECIALIZATION• In MultiCellular organisms, Cells
differ from one another for different jobs.
• In UniCellualr organisms- only one cell.
TISSUE• GROUP OF
SAME CELLS
• 4 MAIN TYPES:
–CONNECTIVE
–MUSCLE
–NERVOUS
–EPITHELIAL
TISSUECONNECTIVE
Connects other tissues together.
ie: Fat, cartilage, bones, blood, ligaments and tendons.
EPITHELIAL
Covers the surface of your body
and lines the inside of organs.
TISSUEMUSCLE
Movement of the body’s functions.
ie: voluntary & involuntary.
NERVOUSControls & coordinates all body functions.ie: brain,
nerves
4 KINDS of TISSUE
(group of same cells)
WHAT TYPE OF TISSUE?
ORGAN Different tissue types working together with specific job.
ie: stomach
ORGANS(group of diff. tissues)
ORGAN SYSTEMS• A group of
organs and parts that work together to perform a specific job.
SYSTEMS( group of diff. Organs)
Integumentary system
SKELETAL SYSTEM
MUSCU-LAR
SYSTEM
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
All together =
ORGANISM
ORGANISM• Multi-cellular Organisms: Single
living unit composed of different systems working together. CTO3
• Uni-cellular Organisms: Single living unit composed of a single cell. C = O
Remember: ORGANISM POPULATION
