And We’re Empowering!…
-
3-Year Plan November-December 2012: prepare to open the lab in
Spring 2013 Purchase first 3D printer(s) (depending on level of funding)
Year 1 (2013): open the doors and start to grow
Winter 2013 - Receive and install first 3D Printer(s), supported by CSU IT and student hourly staff in Morgan Library
Spring 2013 – launch the lab – Open House, Demos, Fun Events!
Year 2 (2014): increase lab capabilities and user capacity
o Review usage stats from first year. If warranted, acquire additional 3D Printer(s) as needed to increase capability and student throughput. Explore whether there is sufficient impetus to acquire additional 3D Printer or a 3D scanner with UTFAB funds.
Year 3 (2014): more user growth – continue investing?
o Examine usage statistics to determine if the equipment and activity should be sustained.
-
Operations
Support/training by part-time Lab manager
plus multiple student hourly staff, CSU IT staff
Students trained and “approved”
Plan to support approximately 1,100 user visits
per year (~90/month, ~20/week) (estimated
through extensive research and interviews)
1¼ years of material proposed for 25%
insurance if greater usage than planned
o User fees buy additional material, maintenance
