CSR Report of Mishima Plant

Massage from the General Manager

The Mishima Plant is located in Mishima City, at the base of Izu Peninsula in the eastern part of Shizuoka Prefecture, and is endowed with abundant water and greenery. The Mishima Plant mainly manufactures tires for passenger cars and tires for light trucks and manufactures racing tires for motor sports.CSR activities represent the basis of corporate activity, and within this plant as well, we conduct ourselves in accordance with the seven core subjects of ISO26000 Certification (namely, “Corporate Governance”, “Human Rights”,

“Labor Practices”, “The Environment”, “Fair Operating Practices”, “Consumer Issues” and “Community Involvement and Development”). Furthermore, concerning CSR issues, we consider the roles and operational specificities of each. This we achieve because “safety,” “environment,” “quality,” “delivery dates and flows”, “costs” and “human asset development” have all been established as important plant policy issues within our operations. We strive to build a relationship of trust with all stakeholders as the core plant of Yokohama Rubber Corporation that aims to be “a company having world-class strengths in technologies for protecting the environment”.

Hitoshi Kobayashi

Mishima Plant PolicyIn aiming to be a plant “where equipment doesn’t stop, and where cost competitiveness is constantly pursued through the leveraging of non-stopping flows,” as a critical measure we will apply ourselves to the issues of SEQDCH (safety and disaster prevention, environment, quality, delivery dates and flows, costs, human asset development), as well as introducing and operating individual management systems with respect to safety, environment and quality.

Organizational Governance

Human rights educationWe distribute “compliance cards” to all employees so as to enlighten and educate them about human rights. We offer employment irrespective of gender, age or disability. We have 39 female employees, 36 elderly employees (aged 60 years old or more) and six disabled employees.

Human Rights

Occupational safety and healthWith recognition that securing safety and health of employees and cooperating employees are the foundations of corporate activities, the plant acquired OSHMS (Occupational Safety and Health Management System) certification in November 2011 as a means to realize a safe, healthy and comfortable workplace. We will strive toward reducing risks, by sorting risks through risk assessment activities and countermeasures for and improvement of sorted risks, based on 3S activities in which all employees participate.

Labor Practices

Corruption preventionWe distribute “compliance cards” to all employees so as to enlighten and educate them about corruption. For managers and staff, we provide seminars by e-learning.

Moreover, four employees obtained childcare leave in 2013. In response to calls from Mishima City, we have established two days each month as “Happy Family Life Days”. By specifying the time at which employees leave work on these days, we continue to introduce measures that take into consideration employees’ work-life balance.

Environmental management By following our principle of “Deal fairly with society and value harmony with the environment”, we declared an environmental policy, adopting the environmental management system of ISO14001. In order to reduce environmental loads, we established reducing industrial waste and reducing greenhouse gas emissions as major tasks and actively strive to improve our production process and eliminate energy waste. For other efforts, we established autonomous management targets to respond to legal regulations and operate within the autonomous management targets. For efforts against sensory discomfort such as noise, vibration and odor, we have asked some people living near the plant to participate as environmental monitors and we conduct a report of the status and a hearing from the residents at the time of visits three times a year as part of an effort to lead improvements.Among our efforts at regional communication, we carry out a cleanup of the area around the plant once a week and we have continuously participated in “Service Work to Make Rivers in Mishima Clean,” “Seseragi Route Cleanup Service Work” as well as cleaning and flower-planting activities at “Rakujuen”, a Mishima City public park. For the “YOKOHAMA Forever Forest” project, a company-wide activity, in addition to a planting event at the plant, we continued to donate seedlings to “Numazu Forest Building” promoted by Numazu City following 2010.As a biodiversity protection activity, in FY2012 we commenced a survey that ran from the upper reaches of the Goten River (in our neighborhood) down to the Kano River. In believing that this survey should be utilized in future environmental protection activities, we moved to make it a full-scale biodiversity protection activity from FY2013. In order to improve environmental awareness and to have employees more deeply understand environmental knowledge, staff and supervisors have mainly participated in the Eco Test (Certification Test for Environmental Specialists) sponsored by The Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry since the 2nd test and a total of 64 employees assigned to this plant have been certified.

Environmental data■Reductions in greenhouse gas emissions・Greenhouse gas emissions

■ Effective use of resources/ Waste reduction・Waste output

・Water usage

The plant uses 90% of its total water usage from underground water. The remainder is from city waterworks.

■Measures for Discharge into Water, Air and Soil

・Data related to water contamination

The water used at the plant is discharged into the Goten River after being treated in the plant’s treatment facilities.

Emissions (Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of the Economy, Trade and Industry). Note that GHG emissions associated with purchased power in FY2009 were calculated using the Table of Emission Coefficients by Power Company (Ministry of the Environment).

* As the closing of accounts period was April to December in FY2011, the calendar year of January to December was calculated by the duplication of data for the period January to March.

Relationship with business partnersWe held the 2nd CSR study seminar on April 26 in 2012 with participation of the members of “Seiryukai” organized by cooperating companies.

Fair Operating Practices

Communication with customersTo customers who tour the plant, we introduce our acquisition of the Automotive Industry Quality Management System Standard ISO/TS16949. Furthermore, in response to inquiries received from customers to whom we have delivered products, we make reports to them based on our quick investigation of the relevant matters.

Consumer Issues

Responses to comments and complaints received In March and November of FY2013, we held plant visits for both people and environmental monitors living in the vicinity.

Relationship with local societies・ A total of ninety-two (92) persons participated twice a year in FY2013 in

cleanup service work sponsored by the Mishima District Environmental Preservation Promotion Council.

・ Results of loaning out the plant’s gymnasium totaled 741 cases in FY2013 and it is used by people throughout the region.

・ Cleanup activities around the Plant are carried out once a week. (Main gate of Plant => around Mishima Futsukamachi Station and Main

gate of Plant => around the parking lots for employees)

・ Participation in blood drives is at the Plant twice a year and in FY2013, 65 employees participated.

・ In November 2013, we donated 300 seedlings of evergreen broadleaf trees such as Japanese chinquapin, oak and Machilus thunbergii to the planting activities of the “Numazu Forest Building” promoted by Numazu City.

・ We donated free-of-charge some 440 seedlings to events such as the “Mishima City Green Festival,” etc.

・ Some thirteen employees participated as volunteers in loaning out parking lots, manning watering points and traffic control activities during the Izu Marathon, held on February 16, 2013.

・ As a business that cooperates with the fire brigade, eight of our employees are registered with the Mishima City Fire Brigade as special function members. In FY2013, these employees were called out on two occasions when incidents occurred in the region.

Community Involvement and Development

Topics:・ The CSR procurement practices of this company・Human rights (harassment)・ Information control and security

Instructors: The Material Procurement Division (Hiratsuka) and the Compliance Promotion Office

Plant tours and workshopsIn FY2013, we accepted 59 factory tours with a total of 1,105 persons visiting the Mishima Plant. We as regional education support accept factory tours by elementary school students, workplace experience learning by junior high school students and high school student internships, etc.
