We’ve made a lot of progress sincethe beginning of 2008, when we

turned our attention to CorporateSocial Responsibility andconsidered what issues we shouldbe addressing.

The three key areas which we’vechosen to focus on reflect our commitment to the area we dobusiness in, and our desire toprotect, nurture and develop themany different facets of that area.

We’ve sponsored many initiativeswhich align with our CSRcommitments, such as the DurrellWildlife Conservation Trust in Jersey, and the Alderney WildlifeTrust in Guernsey. We’ve alsobecome involved with HighlandsCollege in Jersey and the GTAUniversity Centre in Guernsey, byproviding courses to meet clearlyidentified areas of need.

We’ve increased our recyclingefforts by partnering with Greener Solutions UK to recycle unwantedhandsets. We also support twoinitiatives in the Channel Islands -the States of Guernsey’s recyclingscheme and Jersey Potteries’recycled bags.

We’ve engaged with stakeholdersto find out about the issues that

really matter to them. From our discussions with communities andpartner organisations, we knowthat there are concerns regardingour operations and networkdevelopments. We understandthese concerns and have madeobjective information widelyavailable, focusing specifically onhandsets, network infrastructureand relevant scientific research. We also ensure that we comply

with international standards for limiting human exposure to RadioFrequency (RF) fields.

As a responsible modern business,we are always challengingourselves to improve. We’ve madea lot of progress since we firstbegan to address our CSR, butwe’re more than aware that westill have a long way to go. I hope you enjoy this report.

We’ve created and developedmobile phone courses at bothHighlands College in Jersey andthe GTA University Centre inGuernsey, specifically designed tohelp those with a mobile fear tostep into the world of moderncommunication in a fun andsimple way.

In Jersey, our first course was sosuccessful that we were inundated

with enquiries, encouraging us torun a second course. It is now in itsthird round. All the courses havebeen oversubscribed and we aredelighted it has been such asuccess.

The course is currently beingrolled out in Guernsey.

Old School FMWe’ve supported Guernsey’s

Elizabeth College in their broadcasting of “School FM”- ashort term commercial radiostation which provides youngsterswith the opportunity to experiencefirsthand how a radio stationoperates.

Drive safely One of the campaigns we areworking with the other mobileoperators on is Jersey’s “Hands-

Of” campaign, promoting safe andresponsible driving.

ConservationAt present, we undertake a widerange of practices which show our commitment to the conservationof the environment.

Over the last 12 months, we havemade a conscious effort to sourceenvironmentally friendlypromotional products, includingball-point pens made fromrecycled CD cases; USB sticksmade from recycled plastic; andlanyards made from sustainablysourced bamboo.

In addition, all our paper suppliesfor promotional purposes are

sourced from sustainable forests.PuffinCamLast year we worked closely withthe Island of Alderney toimplement the technology of PuffinCam.

A camera will be situated on theisland of Burhou, which is abreeding ground for puffins and aprotected bird sanctuary.

The camera will use state-of-the-art technology to transmit livevideo images, whilst wind andsolar energy power the camera. The images are transmitted via our 3G network.

This unique gadget enablesconservationists and bird lovers togain a better understanding of thelives of the Burhou puffins.

Eco-ActiveWe’re proud to be a registeredEco-Active business in Jersey.Although the Eco-Active schemeis a Jersey initiative and does notoperate in Guernsey, we hope to

roll the scheme out to our Guernsey-based operations andlead by example as anenvironmentally-friendly ChannelIsland company.

Greener customers

In an effort to encourage our customers to be moreenvironmentally conscious, wehave introduced a handsetrecycling scheme in partnershipwith Greener Solutions UK, inwhich unwanted handsets are sentfor re-use in third world countries. All proceeds from the handsetrecycling scheme are donated toour chosen charities of the year;Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trustand the Guernsey Climate ActionNetwork.

In addition, we have finalised a

‘self-care’ account system whichallows customers to opt for e-billing. This means customers willstop receiving paper bills, insteadreceiving their statement via emailor as a download on our website.

The system will help our customers reduce their individualcarbon footprint and, astechnology develops, it is our aimto lessen any unnecessary paper

waste even further.

Energy efficientBeing an energy consciouscompany, we ensure that all our computers are shut down rather than left on standby and thatoffice lights are turned off at theend of the day.

We have also encouraged our employees to be more

environmentally aware bypromoting events such as ‘Walk toWork’ day.

Parish clean-upAs part of the Parish Promotioninitiative, we have recentlyimplemented a new project wherewe take it upon ourselves to clean

up local beaches of the monthlyparishes in Jersey and Guernsey.

This means that by the end of 2009, we’ll have cleared up part of each of the 24 parishes (includingSark and Alderney).

Our Parish clean-up campaign isrun in association with the ‘Stopthe Drop’ litter campaign, and wehope that our efforts will motivate

islanders to join in!
