Introduction

Coca-Cola started its business in 1886 as a local soda producer in Atlanta, Georgia (US) selling about nine beverages per day. By the 1920s, the company had begun expanding internationally, selling its products first in the Caribbean and Canadian markets and then moving in consecutive decades to Asia, Europe, South America and the Soviet Union.

In 2005 it became the largest manufacturer, distributor and marketer of non-alcoholic beverages and syrups in the world. Coca-Cola is a publicly-held company listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

The company’s CSR policy Live Positively establishes seven core areas where the company sets itself measurable goals to improve the business’ Sustainability practices.

Coca-Cola India Foundation, Anandana: An example is the rainwater harvesting project, where Coca-Cola’s operations partnered with the Central Ground Water Authority, the State Ground Water Boards, NGOs and communities to address water scarcity and depleting groundwater levels through rainwater harvesting techniques across 17 states in India.

Employability -Academia Partnerships

Employability through Academia Partnerships: Genpact has taken it’s time-tested curriculum to colleges to enable more employable graduates. The curriculum is imparted to the teachers who in turn teach the students. To date Genpact has conducted training in 50+ colleges and trained 100+ teachers.

Healthcare

They have helped two major government hospitals in Delhi optimize their patient flow and restored a nonfunctional government-run primary health centre in Gurgaon that serves 1000 needy patients per month.

We have also sponsored a first of it’s kind emergency response ambulance service in Haryana that saves two lives a day.

They have started the journey with Rural BPOs to employ village youth who are most eager to learn and earn.

Interestingly 40% of the workforce in villages is women and they played a crucial role to be instrumental in their upliftment.

Apple designs its products with the aim of being as energy efficient as possible, and it is the only company that can claim all electronic goods are Energy Star qualified. ‘Carbon Neutral’ status

In 2011 EY made a voluntary pledge to be carbon neutral and planted 1 lac trees with similar numbers to be planted in future years till EY achieves ‘carbon neutral’ status.

These technologies have reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 11,000,000 tons.

The Canon Group Environmental Charter addresses the theme of maximizing resource efficiency from the dual approaches of environmental assurance and economic activities. It considers overall product lifecycles and sets environmental assurance activities for the entire group.

With the aim of bridging the shortage of skilled workers, It offers short-term vocational certification courses through a special curriculum developed by Walmart, along with Centum Learning Systems. All enrolled candidates are awarded 100% scholarships.

Masti ki Paathshaala

These initiatives are aimed at improving the quality of education for children in Government and NGO-run schools. They have launched ‘Masti ki Patthshaala’ in July 2011, partnering with Bharti and HOPE Foundation to adopt 50 schools and impact 20,000 children, of which75%will be girls.

Direct Farm

Bharti Walmart procures fresh produce directly from small and marginal farmers thereby improving the quality of life of the farming communities we engage with. It helps us to increase the sourcing of quality local product.

The Direct Farm program began in Dec 2008 in farmers to encourage the cultivation of safe, high-quality seasonal vegetables.

It started with 65 farmers in Punjab and has expanded to include more than 3000 farmers across UP, Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
