CSODALÁMPA – PUBLIC BENEFIT STATEMENT AND ANNUAL REPORT on the activities of the CSODALÁMPA Wish Granting Foundation

in the year 2018 based upon law 2011 CLXXV §28

Introduction The CSODALÁMPA (Magic Lamp) Foundation was established in 2003 – i.e. 15 years ago - with the first ever wish being granted in November of that year. The mission of the foundation is to grant one wish to any child, aged between 3 and 18, who suffers from a life-threatening illness. At the outset, we at CSODALÁMPA did not know how many wishes and from which hospitals we should expect to receive. One year down the road, we were already struggling with capacity as it quickly became obvious to us that the prospect of unexpected positive experiences and the fulfilment of wishes initially considered unattainable did indeed give strength to children to undego medical treatment and fight their disease. Today, with over 3,500 wishes granted, we are confident that our initial belief was true. This is also confirmed by doctors, parents and children, as well as the thousands of testimonials on our website. Alongside the CSODALÁMPA brand, an initiative by our sporty volunteers has prompted us to launch the “Magic Bugs” sports and charity movement a few years ago. We enoucrage runners, cyclists, charity bake sale organisers or even birthday party MCs to promote our foundation’s cause by asking their colleagues and friends to make a difference with a donation, however small that may be. This initiative has been so successful that we have set up a dedicated “Magic Bugs” website to accept donations and to thank our donors by featuring them on a “Magic Bugs Map”. We would be grateful if you could also join their ranks. We hope that with your continuing support we will be able bring happiness to ever more children over the following years. There is just one thing that would make us even happier: if we could close down the foundation due to the complete absence of seriously ill children. Budapest, 28 May 2019

1. Activities of the Foundation in 2018

Under court order No 16.Pk.60.549./2003/13 of 11 October 2013, the Court of Budapest has accepted under the provisions of Law No. CLXXV of 2011 the revision to the articles of incorporation and recognised CSODALÁMPA Foundation as a public benefit organisation.

1.1 Target group and achievements

The Foundation grants wishes to children aged between 3 and 18 years who suffer from a life-threatening illness. The wish may be requested by the child’s parents or guardian, treating physician, a CSODALÁMPA volunteer or directly by the child. Except for those with relapsing disorders, each sick child may have one wish, something that is dearest to his or her heart. CSODALÁMPA does not offer a pre-set ‘menu of wishes. Instead, we always try to ascertain exactly what the child truly desires and then fulfill that wish with the help of our sponsors and volunteers. The sole mission of CSODALÁMPA is to fulfill wishes: the joy caused by granting a wish has a psychologically rehabilitative effect on the children and their parents.

The following conditions must be met for a wish to be registered:

- The child must be aged between 3 and 18 years at the time of the filing of the wish - A physician must certify the nature of the illness and must give consent to the wish

being granted - The guardian must also consent to the wish being granted

The physician’s consent is essential due to the special circumstances of the granting of a wish (for example, fitness to travel or to be part of a crowd at a rock concert or soccer match, post-operative state, or need for a doctor or ambulance to be present). The range of illnesses that bring children under the mandate of CSODALÁMPA is unfortunately very wide – hundreds have been identified - and there is no definitive list of illnesses that determines which child may benefit from CSODALÁMPA Foundation’s wish fulfilment mission. We base our decisions on accepting wishes on medical experts' recommendations. To our knowledge, at any one time, thousands of children in Hungary are eligible to be granted a wish by CSODALÁMPA.

1.2 Types of wishes granted and their geographical distribution

1.2.1 Types of wishes granted

As in previous years, most wishes fulfilled in 2018 related to ‘objects’. Eighty-four percent of all wishes granted were outdoor and indoor toys, electronic entertainment gadgets (game consoles, TV sets), furniture for children, and personal computing devices. In the latter category, a total of 51 computers (primarily laptops) and 22 mobile phones were handed over to the children courtesy of our sponsors.1 The children use these for entertainment purposes, and for keeping in touch with their familie members, friends and schools. Of course, traditional toys are also very much in demand. The favourites in 2018 included garden slides, swings and ride-on cars – we fulfilled 36 such wishes. Twenty-two children were taken to trips in Hungary or abroad, which included soccer games, dolphin caressing shows or sightseeing.

Depending on the treatment they receive, they often have to spend weeks in a sterile environment, which only increases their isolation. These children are all homeschooled.

Perhaps the most unusual „object” asked for was 17-year-old Zsuzsanna’s the Western saddle. She has been riding horses for 11 years now, and now she decided to learn to do it „Western style” – even in between two treatments....

A memorable wish granted in the „Meeting Somebody” category was 18-year-old Márton’s encounter with Stefano Conia, a Hungarian-born violin-maker who now lives in Cremona, Italy. Márton visited his workshop and was even invited to lend a helping hand to Stefano and his son. Hungarian celebrities, among them auto racing driver Norbert Michelisz and television presenter Balázs Sebestyén, also helped us steal a smile on the children’s faces – and not for the first time. The „Go Somewhere” category of wishes included visits to Barcelona and PSG soccer games, visits to Legoland and Eurodisney, sightseeings in London and Paris, and holidays in Hungary.

Remarkable in the „Do Something” category was Ádám’s wish: thanks to our sponsors, he could mount a horse in Spain, where Bud Spencer shot the equestrian scenes for his westerns.

The 3,500th fulfilled wish was that of Dóri: she is studying to be a chemist, and her wish was to visit a „real” laboratory. Her dream came true when she was welcomed at Gedeon Richter Plc’s pharmaceutical laboratory. Dóri learned a lot about the researchers’ work and achievements. Appendix 3 lists the wishes granted in 2018.

1.2.2 Geographical distribution of granted wishes Just like in the previous years, in 2018 the Foundation granted 233 wishes to children from Budapest and every county of Hungary. Last year, none of the CSODALÁMPA children had their main place of residence abroad.

The distribution shown above significantly depends on the location of the clinics where the children are treated and also on the place of residence and activity of our volunteers.

1.3 Other activities

1.3.1 Events, appearances In 2018, CSODALÁMPA was present in one form or another at a wide range of events (school functions, sports events, banquet of the Hungarian Association of Executives, Best of Budapest Gala, Playboy Gala). A few examples:

We were honoured to be invited to Kimle to participate in the 3rd Dragon Boat and Children’s Festival. We also had our own team among the competitors.

To mark our 15th anniversary, we invited our friends and collaborators to a „tea party”, where we briefed them about our accomplishments and the challenges ahead. The participants included CSODALÁMPA children who have overcome their illnesses. They recalled their CSODALÁMPA experiences, telling us how much the wishes granted

(swimming with dolphins, a trip on the Orient Express) had meant to them...

Last year, the 11th sponsored 'Walk the Wish' charity event was organised by the American International School of Budapest (AISB). Cookie sales were held at Budapest’s Thomas Mann Gymnasium and Europa 2000 Secondary School. Just like in previous years, students from the József Eötvös High School of Budapest, along with their fellow students from other high schools in the capital, organised a 'Walk for the Dreams of Sick Children' on Margaret Island. The donations we received enabled us to

fulfill numerous wishes, often with the involvement of students or their representatives.

Walk the Wish 2018: practically the whole school turned out At the initiative of our „charity ambassadors”, in November 2018 we organised our second charity dinner at Hotel Hilton in Buda Castle. Some 300 people attended the event, which was hosted by Hungarian broadcaster, singer and lyricist Péter Geszti. With his band, he also enticed the crowd to fill the dance floor. Let us thank the event’s 19 sponsors and hundreds of guests again for their support!

Organised jointly by the German Embassy in Budapest and our long-time supporter the Deutsche Wirtschaftsclub, the wind ensemble of the German Bundeswehr gave a charity concert at the RaM Colosseum to mark the 28th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. CSODALÁMPA was the beneficiary of this spectacular event.

1.3.2 Other civil activities

We launched our „Magic Bug” charity run project in 2014, and we reached quite a number of sportsmen in 2018. These „Magic Bug” sportsmen – runners, cyclists, golfers -- undertake to promote their companies as well as our foundation, and they also collect donations for us. In 2018, scores of „Magic Bug” sportsmen represented CSODALÁMPA at the year’s major running races in Budapest (K&H Marathon, Wizz Air Budapest Half

Marathon, SPAR Budapest Marathon) and at other such events. These runners and cyclists, as well as our student volunteers, helped us promote the Foundation and collect donations.

Evolution of the number of our donors A proof of the „Magic Bug” charity run project’s success is that natural persons are joining the list of our donors in increasing numbers.

In 2018, the 15-year-old CSODALÁMPA was the beneficiary of the 15th Santa Speedo Run. The donations collected by the the runners – dressed in bathing suits and Santa hats – were also used to fulfill wishes…

2. Our volunteers – the national wish-fulfilling network

In accordance with Law LXXXVIII of 2005, our Foundation is registered as a volunteer involving organisation. In 2018, we had 139 registered and contracted volunteers in Hungary. In addition, dozens of activists assist us with granting wishes on a case-by-case basis, and several students volunteer to help out at our events and at the Foundation's office.

These groups are organised according to geographical zones representing areas covered by major children’s hospitals and are led by experienced volunteers. Our volunteers come from all walks of life: they include medical professionals and teachers, pensioners, and CEOs of large international companies. These experienced coordinators also play a key role in training our new volunteers on how to communicate appropriately with sick children, their parents and medical staff. Once a year, we organise a national meeting/training for our volunteers. In March 2018, this event was again hosted by the Europa 2000 Secondary School – the students and teachers there have long been supporters of our Foundation.

Major tasks and responsibilities of our volunteers Our volunteers are in charge of finding out the ‘real’ wish of a child; liaising with the children, their parents, the medical staff, and local sponsors; and organising and documenting the fulfilment of wishes. Several of our volunteers also provide administrative assistance in our Budapest head office (paperwork, translation of documents, etc), or occasionally represent the Foundation at local events. Student volunteers: Our Foundation has signed contracts with several high schools, whereby their students may undertake voluntary work for CSODALÁMPA under the provisions relating to social service activities at schools. The students provide significant assistance in organising the above-mentioned events and many help in managing our website and Facebook page, or in translating grant accounts. Ambassadors: Our charity ambassadors are high-profile personalities – company managers, entrepreneurs – who have agreed to support and promote our Foundation through their experience, advice and contacts.

Our goal is to further develop our volunteer network, and to gradually expand it to cover the whole country.

3. Operating conditions, financial status, 1% campaign

In 2018, CSODALÁMPA continued to operate with one part-time and two full-time employees. Without the ongoing and regular assistance of several volunteers, however, the office would not be able to function. Bookkeeping, PR, and marketing activities are outsourced.

Personnel costs as a percentage of total expenditure (2018)

In 2018, again, the Foundation received slightly less than the planned HUF13 million through the 1% tax provision (HUF13.2 million in 2017). Thanks to our efforts, our prudent management and the successful donation campaigns, the Foundation’s capital increased in 2018, we closed the year with a positive result. Our reserves, earmarked for operating our wish-fulfiling network (i.e. donated for purposes other than directly fulfilling wishes and accumulated over the past 15 years based on the ’going concern’ principle), can now cover our operating costs for about one year (office, telecommunications, wages and employer’s contributions, marketing, etc.).

For years now, the number of people who donated 1% of their personal income tax to CSODALÁMPA has varied between 2,300 and 2,900. 1% contributions to CSODALÁMPA (million HUF)

Based on tax year 2017, in 2018 a total of 2,147 people chose to offer this 1% to our Foundation (the respective figure was 2,456 in 2017). Over a hundred of these people have also shared with us their contact details. We thanked each of them in writing. The number of 1% donors dropped by 309, which reflects the overall trend. Still it was an unwelcome development, even though the actual amount received decreased

by a smaller proportion than the number of 1% donors due to the nationwide wage increases. Accordingly, we plan to come up with new solutions for our 1% campaign in 2019. Expenditure on public benefit activities as a percentage of all expenditures (%)

In 2018, the Foundation’s balance sheet total was HUF83.679 million and – thanks to a large extent to our successul donation campaigns --- the operating result was HUF13.846 million. Supplementing the Foundation’s income was the ’goodwill value’ of various non-financial donations, discounts and services built up by CSODALÁMPA over the past 15 years („would have cost this much if we had to buy these at market

price”). This ’goodwill value’ totalled HUF3.748 million in 2018 (i.e. nearly 10%). It is important to emphasise here that the bulk of this sum cannot be put on the ledger due to its ’pro bono’ nature. We did not quantify the value of our volunteer network’s contribution – but suffice it to say that there would be no CSODALÁMPA without them… The cost of fulfilling a single wish varies between ten thousand-plus Hungarian forints and hundreds of thousand (trip abroad with an accompanying parent and a CSODALÁMPA coordinator). On average, in 2018 we spent HUF179,000 on granting a wish (this calculation includes all four types of wish as well as the cost of operating our national wish-fulfilling network). We aim to pursue a prudent investment policy. The regulations have recently changed, which prevents the Foundation from purchasing new investment products. Accordingly, we keep our savings mostly in fixed-term deposits or on a current account – which, in light of the current low interest rates, is clearly disadvantageous for us.

4. Media coverage in 2018

In 2018, our renewed „Magic Bugs” website provided crucial support to several of our major projects. Thanks to the small cash donations made by a large number of sportsmen, the overall number of donors decreased only slightly following its marked increase in 2016. With the kind support of Maileon, our partner, we now publish a newsletter every one or two months, in which we inform our sponsors, the parents, and our volunteers about the wishes we grant and the events we organise. In 2018, CSODALÁMPA continued to receive numerous media mentions, most often in connection with specific wishes granted. Examples include the meeting at Hungaroring between auto racing driver Norbert Michelisz and two CSODALÁMPA children, or the studo discussion between Dominik and television presenter Balázs Sebestyén. Two of our national campaigns have also resulted in special media mentions: in the spring, CSODALÁMPA was the beneficiary of the JOY Days campaign, and in the autumn our Foundation was invited to an event by Playboy Hero.

Late in the autumn we organised a successful month-long „Magic Bug” recruiting and image campaign with the support of Uniqua and Positive by Hinora, which added the names of several sportsmen and events to our „Magic Bugs Map”. The complete list of these mentions is available in Appendix 2. Several major media firms have also provided dedicated support to CSODALÁMPA during our

1% campaign. These included portfolio.hu, port.hu, Sláger Rádió, Index. Amdala, Drive Online, Positive by Hinora and the Observer. The requisite media portfolio was the work of Inspirit Kft under its corporate social responsibility strategy. Inspirit has been our supporter from the outset. Thanks to our volunteers who are well-versed in social media, the Foundation is present on Facebook. In addition to the 1% campaign mentioned above, we publish updates on our activities and also on the latest wishes fulfilled on average once a week. CSODALÁMPA has already attracted around 33,000 followers on Facebook. We are determined to continue expanding our media presence in 2019.

6. CSODALÁMPA 's social impact in 2018

It is often quite difficult to quantify a project’s social impact. In our case, a relevant marker would be the estimated number of people reached through the wishes granted. These include the children themselves, as well as the members of their family, the doctors, the nurses, the medical pedagogues, our volunteers, and the visitors to our website and Facebook page.

Pursuant to section (1) 34 of Act CLXXV of 2011 on right of association, on charitable organisations and on operation and support of civil organisations, the Foundation performs the following non-profit activities for public interest without aim of gaining profit: it carries out curing and medical rehabilitation services in connection with public health care activity through the fulfilling of wishes in accordance with section (1)-(2) 35 of Act CLIV of 1997 on health services.
