Center StageWith

BarbwireWatch out Texas, there is a new band called Barbwire that is sure to dominate TexasCountry music. Barbwire is made up of some extremely talented musicians; JohnChristopher Way, Don Crider, Lorne O’neil, Kevin Burney, and Carl Williamson.Center Stage Live had to sit down with the Members of Barbwire and see where theycame from and where they are going.

I moved to Kerrville from Nashville, and my dad told me about Kevin. I askedmy dad, well is he good? I knew Kevin for a long time but I hadn’t heard him play ina while. We started to play a couple of beats together and while Lorne was still onthe road with Neal McCoy, we got Carl to play bass for us. Carl moved away for awhile so we got Lorne to play bass for us full time when he got off the road with Neal. After that we got Don Crider to play steel guitar for us. It was magic.

The cool thing about it is all of our dads used to play together . We didn’trealize it at first but after a while we were like, ‘Wait a minute, we are playing every-where with our dads.’ That’s where it was all coming from right there. Our dads weretraditionalist so we had that as a foundation for our traditional country music. Ourdads were Pat O’Neil, Tommy Burney, Earl Dean Williamson, Len Crider, and JohnnyWay. But we figure we are a little better than they were, though.

If you want to start with me, Ive played with just about everyone in theindustry. I was with Neal McCoy for ninteen and a half years. I’ve played everyconcert you can imagine across the United States. I’ve played with Rascal Flatts, juston and on. I have been in the industry a long time so I have Been around all thesepeople.

I have played steel with Reba McEntire, Doug Supernaugh, Gene Watson,Payton McEntire, Borderline.

Ive played with Daryl McCall, mostly old Texas traditional artists. I, too, have played with a lot of traditional artists, I have also played jazz and

Christian. I played with Michael Peterson right out of college, Joe Diffy, Johnny Rodrigez.

and I did a few shows with Charlie Robison after I got back from Nashville.

Texas Music

The Horns, Longhorn andBuckhorn. It really doesn’t matter.Crider’s is great, too. We don’t get toplay at a variety of venues. It’s not reallyabout that anyway, it’s the fact that whenwe are playing, we are playing togetherand it is just magic. We can go to a placethat is dull and boring where everyone islaid back and we start playing andeveryone gets up so it doesn’t matterwhere we play, it just matters who we areand how we play.

Yes, We are cutting an album atMuzeMatic Studios right now. It will beavailable soon.

Sitting on top of Texas. We loveTexas and that is where we want to stay.We are targeting Randy Rogers, EliYoung, Kevin Fowler, Wade Bowen, all ofthose guys.

Yes, go back to what you weredoing before. Haha. Just kidding, stickwith it. Never give up. Especially here inTexas, you are never too old, never toougly. 7
