The purpose of this directory is to provide all John Carroll University

students with a starting point to identify services and businesses that can

help welcome, strengthen, and celebrate their time spent in the Cleveland

area. This project began with the goal to seek out businesses and

resources from underrepresented racial and ethnic identity communities in

the Cleveland area:

Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example,

Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine

Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam.

includes Caribbean Islanders and others of African origin.

other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.

Management (2012).

Introduction

Page 6: CSDI Resource Directory

At John Carroll University, no students have identified as American Indian

or Alaska Native (National Center for Education Statistics, 2012). In our

research, only one Cleveland organization was self-purported as a

resource for this community in the Cleveland area. However, it was not

determined to be relevant for purposes of this directory.

Additionally, this directory does not include organizations whose main

purpose is to unite individuals on through political ideas or religious and

spiritual practices. The office of Campus Ministry at John Carroll University

provides a listing of services intended to reflect the needs various religious

& spiritual practices. You can visit their website by clicking here.

If there are services you utilize or businesses that you frequent that you

believe should be included in future editions of the directory, please visit

the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion. We do our best to list

organizations that are accessible. If you have information about an

organization that may no longer be accessible for whatever reason, please

let us know. We welcome all comments and questions.

Page 7: CSDI Resource Directory

We hope that you can use this directory to identify spaces that

can deepen your understanding of your own and others’

experiences. It is important that as allies we affirm

underrepresented racial and ethnic identity groups and their

respective organizations.

We encourage you to engage in reflection and dialogue with the

professional staff at the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion

and with others within the John Carroll community about this

project.
