Smartphones Exist
50 million smartphones are in use in the US at the end of 2009, according to the Cellular Telephone Industries Association’s (CTIA) semiannual survey. 1
According to a recent release by research firm iSuppli Corp., global smartphone shipments are expected to increase 105% to 506 million units in 2014 from 246.9 million expected in 2010.2
The share of smartphones as a proportion of overall device sales has increased to 29% for phone purchasers in the last six months and 45% of respondents to a Nielsen survey indicated that their next device will be a smartphone.3
