Energi (NRG) is a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) cryptocurrency that combines next-generation smart contracts, decentralized governance, and a self-

funding treasury.

Energi launched without an ICO or pre-mine in the middle of a bear market. Despite some of the harshest conditions possible for a new

project, Energi reached the Top 50 on CoinMarketCap and has grown to more than 60 team members who are all working together to create a

cryptocurrency for the future.

THE PROBLEMSCryptocurrencies have a huge potential for the future, but many are still

facing a multitude of problems as an emerging technology.

GOVERNANCE – Many cryptocurrency projects have failed due to a lack of governance. Bitcoin has forked multiple times and, while it’s been a decade since the cryptocurrency launched, no one has found a solution to this problem. Across the space, there is a lack of leadership on the issue. Ultimately, bad governance delays and hinders the development of a project and may even lead to its demise.

FUNDING – Funding in the cryptocurrency space suffers from short-term thinking. Most projects have launched using one-off events like ICOs or IEOs. Because of this, many have failed through financial mismanagement and very few of the promised products have reached the market. Ultimately, it’s the community, not the founders, who have paid the price.

SECURITY – Many projects in the cryptocurrency space do not provide security for their community. Since cryptocurrency is a new technology, a lack of knowledge gives scammers and hackers a window of opportunity to target potential victims. Fake giveaways, third-party hacks, and exit scams have affected thousands all over the world and led to losses of over US$10M.

PROOF-OF-WORK – PoW has been the prevalent blockchain model for a decade, but it is highly inefficient. Mining functions like a tax on a cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin, which burns billions of dollars a year on mining. Furthermore, the amount of capital required to set up and run a commercial mining operation is prohibitively expensive, leading to greater centralization of miners and less overall security for the network.

THE SOLUTION Since Energi’s foundation, the project has adopted the best ideas

from across the blockchain space to create something new.

Since many projects are failing due to governance issues, we have built a strong network of masternodes. On a fundamental level, masternodes ensure the stability of the Energi ecosystem by validating transactions across the network.

Energi combines good governance and strong leadership. Our masternode system decides on the direction of the Energi project in a unified, decentralized way. Rather than miners or developers, anyone who holds NRG has a say. The masternodes make decisions about everything from treasury fund allocation to innovations of the protocol. This system of governance not only saves time, but prevents the kinds of disputes that affect the broader space – and ensures the long-term stability of the Energi project.

GOVERNANCE

Since Energi never had an ICO, there are no large, institutional investors who can influence the project. Energi was bootstrapped from day one and has since been funded exclusively by an innovative self-funding treasury.

This model gives Energi the strongest treasury in the space, with 400,000 emitted coins going back into the development of the project every month. It’s also fully transparent – because instead of all the funds ending up in an ICO wallet, funding is built into the cryptocurrency. And instead of one unaccountable ICO pot, funds are released in smaller increments in an auditable manner month after month.

A strong, self-funding treasury fuels the development of the project in a stable, sustainable way. It supports everything – from attracting the best talent to our team to targeted initiatives like the Energi Bureau of Investigations, Energi Defense, and Energi Impact. Ultimately, this model ensures the proper resources will be available to fund the project’s growth for many years to come.

FUNDING

Energi is one of the only projects that has its own security division that goes after the hackers and scammers that target our community. Energy Defense and its investigative arm, the Energi Bureau of Investigations (EBI), protect our users and community. They are funded by the treasury and supported by our decentralized masternode network.

The EBI team includes long-time veterans of the cybersecurity industry and intelligence community, including the FBI and CIA. They work with the relevant authorities to bring malicious actors to justice. For example, during the launch of Energi Gen 3, the EBI successfully stopped scammers who attempted to take advantage of the migration of our blockchain. Numerous thefts, amounting to over 200,000 NRG, were prevented, and the funds returned to their rightful owners.

With our well-funded Defense division and security built into our blockchain through our masternodes system, Energi is creating one of the safest ecosystems in the space.

SECURITY

Energi opted to use a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) instead of a Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism from day one. The reason for this was because it allows for greater decentralization, scalability and security while being far more energy efficient.

We mentioned earlier that setting up a PoW commercial mining operation is prohibitively expensive whereas PoS is much more accessible. Anyone with as little as 1,000 NRG can run their own masternode – and only 1 NRG is needed to start staking. This means that we have far more members of our global community participating in the project’s decision-making process and helping to validate transactions across the network.

We launched Energi Impact, the world’s first self-funding charity backed by cryptocurrency.

Energi X is our upcoming zero-fee cryptocurrency exchange. At Energi, we’re building much more than a cryptocurrency and Energi X is a crucial part of our mission to make crypto accessible to everyone.

Energy X will offer a viable alternative to existing players like BitMEX and Binance. BitMEX alone has a monthly trading volume of US$95.5 billion and charges a minimum of 0.075% fees per trade. Energi X will offer the same service without any fees – most traders would save huge sums by switching to Energi X.

Energi X will feature NRG trading pairs, which will increase the liquidity of NRG.

Approximately 1,000,000 NRG is emitted each month, divided amongst stakers, the treasury, backbone, and masternodes in the following proportions:

Funds from the treasury pay for product development, marketing, merchant adoption and team growth. In addition, members of the community can submit their own proposals to the treasury.

Instead of issuing a pre-mine or holding an ICO, 100,000 NRG of the new issuance of NRG is allocated to Energi’s leadership each month. This compensates them for their work and incentivizes them to continue leading the project.

Masternodes administer governance, security, instant transactions, and private transactions over the network, while the

treasury provides essential funding for all Energi services in perpetuity.

Staking enables users to ‘stake’ their NRG on the network; that is, to validate the
