CRYOGENIC PROPELLANTTANK SITE
An unused power plant building was renovated to providespace for this research test facility. The power plantequipment was removed and replaced by a 25-foot diameterspherical tank with a 20-foot diameter access door. This tank serves as a research test chamber where liquidhydrogen rocket fuel tanks, up to 18 feet in diameter, can be tested. During research tests, the chamber vacuumconditions are maintained, and a 10,000 pound hydraulicactuator is used to shake the rocket fuel tanks. Themetal building to the right is the steam plant, requiredfor building heating and to supply steam to a heatexchanger that is used in the research programs. Theconcrete building to the right and to the rear isthe site control building.
2 CRYOGENIC PROPELLANT TANK SITE
This facility is used to test propellant tank insulationsystems and to determine pressurizing gas requirements during propellant outflow. The main buildingof this site previously housed an obsolete steampower plant. The power plant equipment was removed and replaced by a 25' diameter sphericaltank with a 20' diameter access door. This tankserves as a research test chamber where liquidhydrogen rocket fuel tanks up to 18' diameter canbe tested. Duri ng research tests the chamber vacuumconditions are maintained and a 10,000 pound hydraulic actuator is used to shake the rocket fuel tanks. The metal building to the right is the steam plant
required for b.uilding heating and to supply steam toa heat exchanger that is used in the research programs. The cancrete building to the right and to therear is the site control building.
